The design on the threshold you described as a ‘porcupine trail’ in First Nation mythology is called a ‘Yorkshire Worm’ in traditional Yorkshire cottage furniture. Rarely seen in the flesh but really interesting that the design shows up in two geographically distinct locations, created by two seemly different cultures! Great video as always!
