Of course, we find it useful , even for those who perhaps have heard or know about that. But knowing doesn't guarantee doing.Your videos help me to organise myself.Thank you,Max.
Ma'am, Here again, you had done the fantastic video to guide me, how I can improve my pronunciation. You are always outstanding, we can only pray for you and your Mum, God bless we all
Hi Max You English learning series are quite useful for learners with a non English speaking background. For pronunciation, it is also important to pronounce the last letter of words, in addition to your tips. Keep up with your good work as it’s indispensable for English learners. Great job, well done from Peter in Canberra, Australia
Max, thanks for advice. Personally, I really improved my pronunciation with the IPA. It's so much easier to understand how a word should sound like with it. Audio in vocabularies don't help that much as non native speakers can't exactly tell the difference between some sounds. But you can see it in the IPA.
When I was an intermediate learner, one of the teachers in our classroom wrote a sentence on the white board. It wasn't a regular sentence. It was written just using the IPA. I found it so helpful that since that they I always try to not only memorize the meaning of the words but their IPA. I recommend them, but it is not mandatory.... Great video, as always.
Hi lovely teacher,IPA is part of english language ,study it not waste time but it is good for someone study english ms or ph in english language, God bless and keep you safe .
Thx for teaching.. I live in Canada, I prefer American accent buy honestly you sound pretty good, kind of neutral or clear. That's why I like watching your videos.. good advice thx again. doug here.
Tks lovely teacher. ❤❤❤. I usually practice by listening to English songs and sing following them. And this helpful lession get me more methods to practice my English skills especially pronunciation.
Your rolled r is 👌, Max. I'm a native Portuguese speaker and without paying much attention I can't tell whether you're from a Spanish-speaking country or not. Perhaps a good way to evaluate your speaking is by getting the opinion of a person who neither speaks your mother nor your target language.
I love learning IPA because it helps me to know what word is suppose to sound like. If one understands the IPA chart, it will help in many ways such as sound, silent, and stress of the word if that person looks at a dictionary. Dictionary tells all like, type of words- verb or noun..shows IPA symbol and stress of word, and how to pronounce it. Thank you for teaching us. Greatly appreciate your time.
Hello Max, You just get a few words in aussie accent, that's better, but the way You speak in neutral accent is great. Tu pronunciación en español es muchísimo mejor que el mío. Sali
Hi Max. Greetings from Venezuela. Thanks a bunch for your lesson. I'd would like you explain more about what' s the difference between linking and elision and the other aspects.
Hi Maribel! At the moment I'm not really focusing on pronunciation, but you'll find lots of videos on TH-cam about those topics. Who knows? I might make some videos on those in the future. ❤️️
These tips you gave are very good. Some I didn't even know 😮 (they are already noted, for I start doing). Two methods that you cite (speak in the time video is pause and in the same time of the video), help me a lot. In your videos I doing this so much. This part of IPA, in my opinion it's very useful, in my language that is portugues, some sounds it's like equal english, but I like to use this method, in words that I don't speak so much well. NOTE:I don't understand so much of this IPA, but I try to learn. Muchas gracias por hacer estos videos.
It's great that you've found techniques which are helpful. :) Don't worry - I think it takes time to memorise all the symbols. I've learnt them gradually over time.
lol lol. Really very funny to hear how you say " Ramon Ramirez" I realized now why my teacher laugh at me when I am talking with her. Terrific sound. Look like a perfume advertisement. wich the background vocals sound mumbling, muttering, whispering and so on.
Hello Max, thank you for the tips , reading out loud is a good exercise and the stress on the right place is really important with native speakers (I remember some bad expériences). Learning IPA is time consuming and really hard...it's not for me. And each time I recorded my voice I thought the material was out of order ... Again, you're my favourite teacher on TH-cam ! Mille mercis.
@@EnglishwithMax Hi Max, to be honest, I had an Australian teacher last year in France, she taught me a lot of tricks to improve my English. She became more a friend than a teacher, and I really appreciate her conversation. It's a pity you left Europe, you could have been my online teacher !! Have a nice day in Australia :-)
Special thanks for your perfect videos, I think knowing IPA in these days are not necessary because we can learn the pronunciations from many audio sources like your videos and other.
Oh my gosh! Since i have been watching your videos i think i fell in love with you. Your way of speaking and pronuncing any word makes me couragious. But today you are looking gorgious just because your wonderful earings. Love you dear keep continue your good work.
Hi Max. TH-cam has helped me a lot to learn English in the last three years. Your channel is one of my favorite one for this purpose. The IPA can be helpful, I don't know it very well but I am trying to learn at least the vowels and the consonants that we don't have in portuguese (like the th's) or that generally are not represented by the same letter.
What alphabets are to words IPA is to pronunciation. So l feel learning IPA will certainly speed up pronunciation learning. Anyway thank you for your techniques . I will certainly implement them.
What an excellent tutorial! Thank you very much. Personally, I find IPA very useful, it helps me a lot to perceive the phonemes, and the differences beteween them. I use the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, but I miss the syllable division that isn’t provided. Could you recommend an online dictionary with British pronunciation and syllable division? I’ll try to use the shadowing and recording techniques that you mentioned. Sometimes I read a text aloud while listening to it’s audible version. The New Yorker Magazine publishes some excelent articles in the section A Critic at Large, with audio. Do you intend to offer a pronunciation course with the techniques and tips that you had mentioned? It would be a pleasure to be your student!
Hi Noêmia! Thank you so much. The Cambridge Dictionary breaks up the syllables: dictionary.cambridge.org/ I hope that helps! I didn't know The New Yorker did that. The Economist has an audio version, but The Economist can be pretty dry. 😅 At the moment I'm actually working on an advanced vocabulary course, but who knows? Maybe in the future. :)
Hi! Max, I'm not new to you, I've been following you for a few years. I'm speaking my mind, I'm speaking from the heart. I'm a fellow non-native speaker of English, but I've been learning English for fifty-four years. I can't lose my Chinese accent when speaking English, my accent is part of my identity. So long as we're all able to communicate and people understand me. I've won in your eyes. You know, people completely understand me, because I have a good pronunciation with intonation, I have a good grounding in grammar. I can't agree with you more, maybe some English teachers might not like me for saying this, but it's my opinion. Because, I had an argument about pronunciation and accent with an American teacher on TH-cam, I think she's a half-breed , not a native American, she said that people understand you because of pronunciation, but if people consistently have trouble understanding you , then you have trouble with your accent. You know, English is a lazy language, English is a music and rhythm of language. Nobody's perfect , nothing is perfect, how about English .You know, comparing myself as an English learner to a native speaker doesn't make sense. I hate hearing the term, "Speak like a native English speaker." I hate to hear people say, "Speak English with British Accent, American Accent, etc." You know, pronunciation is diction, intonation is accent. I'm Chinese, and they're born with English tongue, they're brought up around it . There's no point over argument with that teacher , she can't distinguish right from wrong. What a rediculous she is. She's still talk about it , pronunciation and ACCENT. I click off her video. You know, I'm not rude, because my goal is to be able to communicate as a speaker and as a silent listener. I won't push myself too hard, people don't know what roads I took to get to where I am at. I should be proud of myself all the hard work I have done. Thank you so much for reading my comment. Have a good day. Take care, Max. Bye for now. I'll see you soon in the next video.
Hello! Thank you very much for your comment. Yes, I agree with you. So long as you can communicate and people can understand you easily, you've got nothing to worry about. If people sometimes struggle to understand you, then you could perhaps work on your pronunciation. It bothers me as well when teachers say "speak like a native speaker". Normally it's just marketing, because even those teachers are aware that hardly anybody loses their foreign accent. And unless you want to be an actor or a spy, it's unnecessary. ;-) (Btw, be very careful with the word "half-breed" as it's derogatory. I'm sure you didn't mean it like that, but I just thought I should tell you.) Thank you for watching my videos!
This video was really helpful for me.Thanks a lot for this useful video. Definitely, I will join your channel , i think shadowing is better than IPA👍 👌
