If I remember correctly, Tremere took possession of Goratrix' body while Goratrix himself got trapped in a mirror. Tremere also performed a ritual that sacrificed all of old House Goratrix bloodline as a way to restore his 3rd gen status. I'm not entirely sure how Goratrix ended up in the body of a woman but it's definitely a step up from a mirror.
From what I've seen it's khelil headcanon. He said he thought goterix being gay was problematic and the Inner council needed more women. .....i have no idea why.

After I recorded I wondered if they were just having Goratrix jump bodies instead of being destroyed. And the new host body happened to be female. I didn’t see anything in the book by way of explanation, but that was the best (to me) explanation I came up with.
I loved that book and it’s easily one of my favorite even though it had few issues that I can’t understand but it’s still useful !
