I am very fond of the idea that, just as the Beast turns vampires base nature more predatory, it also subtly lessens their parental instincts. This is the only logical explanation in my mind as to how beings of such age and intelligence could repeatedly make such obvious child rearing mistakes over and over again across the centuries.
I mean, one needs only look at older individuals IRL to see that age and recurring experience is not inherently conducive to wisdom. Just as humans get more set in their ways as they age, so do vampires. They resist change, and will do all sorts of mental gymnastics to believe they're right in doing so.
@@Tencelas One could argue that the term human is extremely vague and could be used to describe almost any attribute that exists and is thus pretty useless as a description. Your talking about a category that includes both Ghengis Khan and Helen Keller.

Lasombra is my favorite. They remind me heavily of the Orzhov Syndicate vampires from Ravnica. "Mafia Catholic Shadowmancers". Lasombra is the direct inspiration for a lineage from my own VtM homage in OSR rpg: Nosumbra. Very much Dorian Grey syndrome where they are beautiful to behold except in their own eyes: their reflected image reveals the monstrosity and grotesquery of their true form. Still a work in progress; I am considering each Nosumbra only seeing it's own true form....hence other vampires look exactly as they seem, stoking the vile envy and consuming jealousy of each Nosumbra for it's fellows, fraying the otherwise firm clan family bonds. To be fair, Giovani do seem to be parents as competent as parents can be, better than most, since their family remains strong. With new talents entering the night generation after generation. Perhaps the Tzimisce are decently able to raise children as well, since they have considerable success in keep lineages of ghouls. Of course, the Tzimisce raise those children as war-hounds, not exactly the same than raise them as future people. Still, the Giovany example remains valid! It's not a problem of vampires in general, just a problem of Lasombras. I think I saw in the Arch channel something about the next "Vampire Bloodlines" attempt being intended to have a elder as PC. If they go for that, they could include some mechanic to allow us to raise our biological children (generated before embrace) or adoptive ones. Up to the point in life when they are adult, and we must choose to let them die from old age or embrace our pets. That would be an interesting, and unexpected, spice for a Bloodlines game. A drop of The Sims. If they do that, then the secondary trait of child-rearing may prove to be a valid investment of XP.
Nice one! My Magister's got Gratiano in his lineage. Serves currently as an archbishop in Hamburg, Germany and follows the "Path of Power and the Inner Voice". Oh, by the way, there's another source that says that Monçada followed the PIV as well. Not the "Path of Night".

A 3rd gen Lasombra could EASILY take out a huge group of mortals. Dominate level 7 and command a couple dozen of them to start killing the rest of them. Obtenebration level 10 creates a black hole to suck them into the Abyss. Potence level 9 and celerity level 2 and every swing of his arms would kill everyone within reach.
@Dantes230 In WoD, the U.S. government knows a lot about the Kindred, i.e. Project Twilight. Once they knew where he was they could start dropping 30,000 LB Bunker Busters once the sun came up. They could drop a 20 megaton nuke if necessary. Snipers with 25mm rifles could shoot him from over 1000 meters. Apache helicopters, AC-130 Gun Ships, A-10s and F-35s. Lasombra don't have Fortitude or Celerity in clan so they wouldn't have high levels of either. Although with the 3rd gen you don't really know their capabilities. Any Kindred that is over 12,000 years old could even have an out of clan discipline at level 10. That one Nictuku, Vasilev or something, she is about 12,000 years old and is god-like. So the 3rd gen are older and more powerful than that. Auspex level 10 is like seeing the future so kind of hard to defeat a 3rd gen with that. Celerity level 10 is like teleporting from one place to another. Fortitude level 10 is almost invulnerability. Protean you sink hundreds of feet into the ground or into the center of a mountain. Animalism level 10 and you control every animal within 10 miles or something, in Africa you'd have an army of hundreds of lions, cheetahs, leopards, gorillas, baboons, elephants. rhinos, hippos, snakes, crocodiles, etc. You could only beat that with a nuke. Presence/Dominate level 10, you walk into Fort Bragg and have Delta Force, 5th Special Forces Group, 82nd Airborne and 101st Air Assault as your personal army, again, have to drop a nuke.
