I work at a gm dealer and I can tell you that changing your own oil will not void your warranty, but there may be some disgruntled techs that might say it’s never been changed but 99% of guys (or gals) won’t do such thing. And GM does not recommend pre filling the filter, it can potentially allow contaminants in the new oil go through the main oil galleys.
Pre filling the filter does not allow any additional dirt to enter the engine. You do far more damage to the engine running it over 5k and listening to a computer on the dash.
Great video, thanks you for making it. I change my oil for all my cars. The only one I sent to the dealership was my 2020 BMW M8 for the first oil change at 1,200 miles . After getting home I parked the car in my garage. The next day I saw a small puddle of oil on the floor. I took the car back to the dealer and found out the tech just made a mess in the engine splash guard and never cleaned it up. Ever since I've decided the do every oil change myself. On the lighter side, some people ask me why I go through the trouble of changing my oil myself, my answer, "Its a man thing, you wouldn't understand it."
Ha! Almost. You do get one free oil change and “some participating dealerships” may pick up your car to do it, but after a few stripped and broken off bolts with the 4Runner I learned free oil changes aren’t exactly free. So I skip those these days
Do you trust the program in the ECU calculating the oil's service life? Does the ECU have such a program or is it just a set mileage interval? If there is such a program it should be taking into account operating conditions along with duration of operation. This of course makes the assumption that the oil in the sump is of a known type with an expected performance degradation rate. GM has for either environmental reasons or perhaps more likely penny pinching reasons chosen this oil change reminder as a way to reduce warranty claim costs. I don't disagree about it not always being the best idea. I think it is likely that for many folks the calculated interval is a sufficient indicator for an acceptable longevity of the engine. I suspect that for most new Escalade owners a DIY oil change is a non-starter. Very few people this vehicle is marketed towards are going to find value in changing their own oil more often than the manufacturer recommends so that maybe a few years after the vehicle has been sold to the 2nd owner a problem related to oil change interval is avoided.
The reason it can void your warranty is because the new engines have tighter bearing clearances and changed from lead overlay to aluminum overlay, and this requires better filtration, That mixed with higher flow rates on the newer engines as well. most aftermarket filters are made the exact same way as previous lead overlay bearing engines, and this can cause engine noise or engine failure. Just get the ACdelco filter and you're good. you can read about it on this GM bulletin #07-06-01-016G.
Thanks for the vid, I will be doing my oil change soon on my 2021 Escalade esv same color same black front great car, don’t be lying it’s your wife car, I saw the greeting “hello daddy” 😂
We swapped comments a couple of years ago and since then I have decided to order a diesel Escalade before they discontinue that engine option. Do you have any words of wisdom or advice that I should know about? Thanks and BTW, I will probably order it from the dealership in Grapevine.
It’s still going strong. The only thing that’s gone wrong was the backup camera would intermittently work. Turned out to be a video control module that was replaced under warranty (and Sewell came and picked up the car to fix it, which was awesome). We had a good no hassle buying experience there. If Mickey is still there give him your business. I’m planning some more mods for it in the next few weeks so stay tuned!
@@ZeroToAwesome One other thing, I am going to get the Platinum Trim because of the nicer trim and features. I am undecided on the console cooler. It would be nice on road trips, but I would sacrifice some storage area when it is not being used as a cooler. Got any thoughts that might influence my decision? Thanks again.
@@thexoftexas4267the console is kind of small to begin with for how big of a vehicle it is. If you just want the cooler for road trips I’d pick up a 12v fridge with an ac adapter and stash it in the rear passenger area or trunk when you hit the road. There’s outlets in both places that would work
You need to check your oil again, or you will void your warranty😂 it calls for 8 quarts for a reason not 7.5, you have to account for the oil filter which you did not so it being “full” with out you turning the car on is incorrect. After each oil change you start the vehicle let in run for like 5 seconds then give it a min to let everything settle your oil filter at this point will be full as it should from there check oil level again.
Don't trust my cadillac dealership. They took over 5 hours twice to change my oil and I had an appointment. Then they try to sell me on oil conditioner. I started laughing and said no but I'll take the blinker fluid lol
Its your car, but look at engine tear-downs that have run "extended OCI" as 'suggested' by oem. Repeatedly running much longer than 5k results in the piston rings getting gummed up. Then a engine that should be good to run for 200K+ miles will be dead in 100K or less. Gummed up oil will build up under/behind the rings, resulting in oil consumption, cylinder wall scuffing/damage. If you are doing 10k+ OCI you will see sludge buildup around the cams, cars with VVT or cyl deactivation will see the very small passages clog up, ... is a new engine really worth saving a few oil changes?
Hi friend. The video is awesome. Would you like to try our Boslla 6500K led headlight bulb? We wanna work with you. I have contacted you on Ins dm. Hope to hear from you, thanks.

Ben there, hard to trust others to do the job right
Appreciate the video. Waiting on my 22. Plan on doing my own oil changes as well. 💪🏽
Never go under a vehicle air suspension with out blocking it up first. Never rely on the airbags for your ability to breath.
Check oil level after starting car to fill oil filter.
Fill filter before putting it in the car
LOL I almost yelled at the monitor when he pulled out the rear main seal repair
Wait a second… I thought all fancy Cadillacs have a concierge service that comes to your home to do all required maintenance.

Scheduling oil changes based on when your car tells you to do so isn’t always the best idea.

Try the cup socket filter removal tool. I made a small ramps with 2 by 12’s to give enough room.

You didn't fill the new filter with new oil before you put it on always try to put some oil in new filter when you replace it just a heads up.
She was talking about taking it to Jiffy Lube. They like to forget the oil part of the oil change so then your motor destroys itself.
True story!!

Forgot to start the engine and then check the oil level again…
Uh oh. Warranty void!
How much do you think you saved by doing the oil change yourself vs having a shop do it?
It's cost more to change the oil yourself. It's never about saving money if you ask any DIY car enthusiast.
Thats the blackest synthetic 5000 mile oil I have seen, please tell me it was the lighting

Oil level isn’t correct, you have to check the level after you start the vehicle for a few seconds until the oil filter fills up.
You should start the car to fill the oil filter before you start checking oil. I would guess you're a bit low.
He took the dip stick out and put it back in at the beginning of the video, at that moment I knew he isn’t a car guy

probably the last full size SUV you can still do this to.

Buddy, I think 7.5 quarts is not enough
I have the same car and it holds 8.0
quarts
And , Nice video like you 😇❤
Having to navigate menus to see oil pressure is madness. Guess gm wants you to grenade your engine.
Good point. Approximately .001% of useful engine information is displayed by default
That dam thing is 50% Grill!!!
Put some gold teeth in that thing!
Lol not a bad idea I think the internet would love/hate it
Oil is cheap. Engines are not. Change your oil every 5k miles and always run full synthetic
Debadge and black out. Yes.
Hahaha that was funny
Looks like you have a bad gopher problem!
Is that what it is??
Nice dirt pile, bet you can’t get a Polaris to the top of it.
Challenge accepted my good pooch
