I actually met Jesse Eisenberg a week ago. I asked him for his autograph and after giving it to me, he said "No one ever asks".

I saw him taking pictures with anyone who asked while he was at Sarajevo FF two years ago. Might be rare indeed that anyone wants an autograph.

After seeing him in succession i really believe kieran culkin is one of the best actors working today. Excited to see him get more film roles. I think an oscar is in his future eventually

I was lucky enough to get a screener for this through virtual Sundance (it was an award-winner screening since the initial slots sold out). This movie ended up in my Top 4 I saw, along with THELMA, KNEECAP, and Exhibiting Forgiveness. It reminded me a bit of Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited (although I’ve also heard the Elijah Wood film Everything is Illuminated), but it does enough to stand out on its own. VERY much worth checking out.

You have to check out succession and give it 6 episodes. If it's not for you then you should probably stop.

I have to say, this movie caused me to look at Kieran Culkin in a new way as an actor. I haven’t seen SUCCESSION (though I’ve heard he’s great in it), and I mostly knew him as the roommate from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. He absolutely steals the show in this movie though. Eisenberg does a great job in his own right, on both sides of the camera, but Culkin is the one who walks away with this whole movie. Hopefully he gets remembered come awards season next year.

Was so happy I ended up grabbing a ticket for this after it won the Screenwriting award. Definitely my favorite of those I saw, Dìdi and In the Summers. Hoping Kieran somehow sneaks into the awards conversation next year, because he definitely deserves it!

Looooved this film. Would really love in a perfect world for it to get Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, and Screenplay noms. Supporting Actor I think could be a real shot depending on how competitive the field becomes over the course of the year.

2nd Jesse Eisenberg acting nom?.. and Eisenberg's 1st Best Picture (also for Emma Stone also the producer?) and screenplay noms?..
Amd Keiran Culkin 1st ever Oscars nom?..

I'm predicting A Real Pain to get Picture, Supporting Actor (Culkin), Original Screenplay, and Cinematography for 2025. I have it in because A Complete Unknown hasn't started filming yet so this is most likely Searchlight Pictures best film of 2024. As someone who has seen the movie, is Culkin leading or supporting? What are your thoughts on the other nominations i'm predicting?

    • @joycechan-barretta9882

The film starts and ends with Kieran and he provides all the spark. All the characters talk about him. But it’s told more from the POV of Jesse. So I’m not sure who the lead is.

The film has just opened here in Sydney. Loved it, but how the heck is Culkin in the supporting category? He’s a lead, in at least 90% of the film. Definitely deserves an Oscar but it’s unfair on genuine supporting actors that he’s put in this category.

Culkin was almost completely unlikable. Pacing was lacking. Characters were unchanged. The last segment where they made the modern-day Poles look like anti-semites probably should have been cut. Literally the only conversation the two of them had with local polish people and they paint them through this lens. Weak.

After suffering 30 minutes of the Culkin character, I was not interested, I did not care in the least how this one ended. I walked out of the theater. It was just a whole bunch of silly conflict that I did not care about. He had something deep down wrong with him, but I do not care to find out what it is, just stay away, and don't come back. I did not find the character magnetic, more like repulsive.

I love Jesse and love Kieran. Any hint, any nuance, any irony positioned on the tragedy of the Palestinians? If not, I'll pass. Not interested. Eisenberg blew this perfect chance of bringing humanity to a tragedy. Human suffering is human. Tired of the one side. Shalom boys.
