      And the difference between a snob and a hipster: A snob will hate a lot of things and love few things as well, but contrary to the hipster they don't actually care whether or not something they like is sufficiently unpopular or not. ... Yes, I may be a shitty little snob. No worries, I don't care or judge what others like or dislike though. xD

      hipsters are simply liabilities that spout nonsense seen through their hallucinogenic bs. However, nerds can also be irritable as they prefer more complex means of communication, which then makes the other human lose interest quicker than Usain Bolt on crack. Both demographics are also passive, meaning they have no drive to complete. No conviction in their choices [except for the choice to conform to such stereotypes].

I remember wandering into a hipster bar in Glasgow recently. Ironically my 2 friends and I were the ones who looked different and stood out in the sea of skinny jeans wearing sheep in there. I suppose they need their own bar right enough. There are bars only 5 minutes walk away from there that I doubt many of them would dare enter!

The alt right (and a lot on the right in general) are more what early (and not full in) facism looks like. Fascism is nationalism. It's about closing your borders to outsiders, recognizing your race and country are the true race and country, telling your people that the outsiders are the villains and Should be feared. Its all about what's good for the star is good for the people. Which means if more money is needed to build tanks than to feed people then so be it because it's good for the country. It's not the lumberjack shirts or the beards or the microbrew that makes a hipster a hipster, it's their attitude in doing so because they claim it's non-conformist. That, and their unholy trinity of arrogance, pretentiousness and unwarranted smugness, while claiming to like the likes of Coldplay, or claim to dislike Coldplay, while still listening to it and claiming to like them ironically. I would add: my biggest beef with hipsters is that they are like vampires, but instead of blood, what they seek is "authenticity". They see genuinely-authentic things around them: like blue-collar workers (whose fashion they pilfer), ethnic and folk-music (whose music they parrot), crafts-people of yesteryear (whose techniques of farming, food-processing, wood-working, distillation-processes etc. they appropriate) and genuine-free-thinkers, and they amalgamize superficial elements from all of "authentic" things into a totally contrived Frankenstein of inauthenticity. They take things that truly define people and turn them into costumes and personas. Yech.

    The lumberjack costume is "signalling". In the 80's we called this "posing". In this case they are signalling masculinity, because they dont have the stereotypical masculine traits that would otherwise identify them as such.

    • @wickedlee664
      @wickedlee664 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bunberrier Im one of the “we” from the 80’s and I have never heard that. “Signaling” you mean by wearing flannel?

    • @bunberrier
      @bunberrier 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Chad Allen Sorry, I thought all 80's kids said that. Maybe it was a regional thing where I lived. "Posers" were those putting up a front or a pretense for their ego or whatever. In this instance I was referring to the whole package. In the images shown here they are wearing flannel, work pants, heavy work boots, and sport thick beards. Its designed to portray a man who works with his back and his hands. But many ( most?) of these people couldn't drive a nail straight, or fix a car, and think Ohm's law is found in a legal manual. They swipe at phones and hang around metro areas. "Oh I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok..... I sleep all night and I work all day!"

    • @SpizawkDaKizowz
      @SpizawkDaKizowz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bunberrier, that was a very astute comment. I was around in the 80s too, and I agree that posing=signalling. One quick counterargument to your point, though, is this: male hipsters have beards. That's a pretty incontrovertible masculine signal. So one would think the lumberjack shirt is not necessary. It could be that the lumberjack look is just a style that spread through the hipster community. I would argue that those shirts are common in the Pacific Northwest, which is also a strong hipster hub (maybe the epicenter?)

    • @bunberrier
      @bunberrier 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SpizawkDaKizowz True about the beard, but as you also said, a signal. ( For most, anyway, taken in context with the rest of it. ) Also beards can make you look bigger.... and sort of hide a thin chest or neck. Actually loose flannel can hide lack of muscles too, particularly with a couple extra shirts under it. I tried many different types of facial hair before I understood the best use of it is to even up or hide undesirable features of the face, and I didn't need to do that. It was just extra work. But I did try a beard at one point, and gawd what an itchy mess that was. Not knocking beards at all, evidently some people are quite fond of them.

      And lesbians didn't just start wearing them. They've been wearing then 20 years. You furry little hipsters were just hairless newborn pups. My comment was of the 1970s and 80s. The stoner uniform was an open flannel, rock concert-T shirt , and a black leather jacket(with or without the furry collar). The early grunge scene picked up on the flannel shirt in the 90's. Look at the motto they parade around Portland: "Keep Portland weird." Think about that. That's their priority. Keep Portland weird. Not Keep Portland nice, or clean, or safe. No. Keep it "weird". What matters above all else is that it be perceived as "weird" by normal people. That is of the utmost importance. The most devastating thing you can say to a hipster who shows you their Darth Vader on a unicycle that their city has isn't "you people are fucking weird". That's what they want to hear. It validates their empty existence. Tell them "eh, that isn't too weird. My city has something similar to that, maybe even a little weirder. I think most towns do." That'll fuck them up because their whole identity is based around getting you to call them weird. Think of how vacuous that is. There is nothing to them but their "image" that they carefully cultivate to be exactly the same as their fellow hipsters. They have no personality or actual interests, just claiming to like whatever is "hipster cool" at the moment even if they don't honestly like it. They're empty, human-shaped shells with no substance to them. That's obnoxious enough, especially since they're invariably in their 20's-30's, and not immature teenagers from whom you'd expect this kind of shallow obsession with conformity and being "different".
    But what really puts the cherry on top of the rage sundae is that they take all of this hollow bullshit and wrap it up in an unearned air of smug superiority. They're better than you because their toast cost them $14 and yours was made from a slice of the loaf of bread you got for $2.50. They're better than you because their music is by someone you've never heard of. They're better than you because their glasses are gigantic and yours fit you properly. No. Fuck you, hipsters. Get out of my city. Stop moving in and shitting everything up. You're like a fucking infestation. "Oh look, the natives have a shoprite here with an empty building next to it! We want a Whole Foods! Should we buy the empty lot and make one? Nah! Get the Shoprite shut down and replace it with a Whole Foods! It's not enough to force this neighborhood to have things we like in addition to things the people who are actually from here like; we have to actively purge the things the natives like so that they'll move out and hasten the collapse of this town into another Portland, before we immediately lose interest and move on to another host town like the hoard of unthinking, endlessly consuming cultural locusts we are!" Hipsters act like they are a community but reality most of them barely know each other nor talk to each other. I visited a hipster bar just to see what's the haps, and saw that everyone is in their own bubble, theyre very very cliquesh, and males and females are totally segregated thanks to feminism. Hipsters are the most superficial people on earth and the sad thing is that I was a hipster 20 yrs before it was cool.

    I don't see how this is any different than any other social cliques. Bros, hip hop culture, bass/edm heads, metal heads, punk rockers, hippies, cougars, surfers, etc etc. They all follow the fashion trends within their social group, they all tend to have the same political views, act the same, talk the same, and within all of these groups there are people I would consider hipsters because they consider themselves an elite within their social group and think they are more knowledgeable and experienced in their social culture than other people within it. The stereotyoes of elitism and non conformism do not apply to everyone with a beard and plad shirt, they apply to individuals in nearly every social clique around. Because American society is so external and only focuses on the physical, nobody actually knows who they are so they desperately cling to social cliques for a sense of identity.

But the shop doesn't need to make any money because it's a pet project of a rich man's son (Cloud Crispin Asbestos III) who dropped out of university because "the tutors don't know what they're talking about, and anyway, I'm an individual entrepreneur so I'll have hundreds of these shops within five years anyway". His father lent (gave) him two hundred thousand pounds to set up the business three years ago. However, he soon ran out of that money and has (without his dad knowing) borrowed another three hundred and seventy thousand pounds from his really great mates (Benjy, Rory, Vax and Gloog) from school who have massive trust funds. He works in the shop, well, when I say work, he saunters in at 11am with a coffee that he got from an 'Another artisan coffee shop' run by his great mate from school Sibelius Igloo-Lindab. For work he wears a big long Victorian apron the ones that start 3 inches below the chin and finish a half inch above his purple DM's. He stays for two and a half hours then goes home early because he says he's depressed. Later he can be found curled-up in a fetal position in his sisters bedroom of his family's holiday home (just in front of the Tate Gallery). He has a crumpled-up photograph of Jonathan Meads shoved down the back of his long johns. He has decided to kill himself (that's the sixtieth time he's decided that this month). But not to worry, his paternal grandmother has just died and she will leave him ten million quid that her family made by supplying Zyclon-B to the Nazis in World War 2. So, a happy ending for him.

    ah yes, hipsters. My friend used to be one, and he claimed everything "normies" didn't do. So he ended up abandoning things he loved because they were for normies and normies judge, in his opinion. This was so ironic to me that he wanted to be himself so in order to be himself he could no longer be himself if that himself was what everybody else was doing so he was now no longer himself to seem like he was himself and rebellious against everyone else. Did you keep up? I didn't. I stopped keeping up after the first month of beard talk.
    Long story short, I generally dislike folks who do things for other people. Now if this is doing what everyone else does for that reason or NOT doing it because everyone else does it, don't matter. If being "basic" is who you are, im fine with it. If you're genuially into beards, go ahead. And if you're an overlap and just do a little of both because heck who cares, big thumbs up. But dont use "ew nobody does that" or "ew everybody does that" in order to lift yourself above others because you are one insecure little twat that pretends to be overly confident. and just ADMIT that you analize some parts of your life to compare them with others, which is fine.
    Also, we all look down on other groups, because we are confident within our own groups. Being pretentious and saying you dont is stupid and makes you. once again, lift yourself above others in a stupid manner. Fuck i think I lost the point I was trying to make.

    I’m a 44 year old man who accidentally discovered how easy hipster girls are to pick up. I drive an older Volvo, not because hipsters like them but because they are tough reliable and easy to work on. Anyway one day I’m out running errands and a hipster girl struck up a conversation about my car. She was around 25 and pretty cute but definitely not like any girl I’m used to. I offered to buy a drink at a bar that was across the street. We hung had a couple drinks and she enjoyed it enough that she asked for my number. I really didn’t think I’d here from her since she was like 15 years younger. She called the next day and wanted to hang again. It was Friday so I said why not. I picked her up, in the Volvo, and went to a few places I’m used to. We had a great time. She asked if she could stay the night so of course I was happy to let her. After fooling around for lil bit we got naked and almost immediately I could tell she wasn’t used to a man doing things the way I was. I asked her if she wanted to stop and she looked at me and said “I hope you don’t”!!! I gave it to her and didn’t hold back. She had more orgasms than I could count. We stayed up almost the entire night having sex. After we were done she started telling me that no man had ever gave it to her like that. The guys she was used to were always gentle and acted like they were doing something wrong by having sex in the first place. We stayed in touch and hooked up a number of times until she moved back home with her parents out of state. Since then I’ve had a few more younger hipster girls and they all pretty much say the same things about hipster guys. I think hipster guys might want to learn how to fuck their girls or they will find themselves all alone listening to vinyl in their skinny jeans.

    that is true. Hippies are a sub-culture, much like any other sub-culture.
    I was always more interested in minimalism in consuming, rather than consuming in a "hippie" way. For example I drive an old car, and live in a far smaller house than I could afford, not because it's "hip" to do it among some people, but because I do not wish to have to make money for costly things that don't really bring me any extra enjoyment. I don't go out of my way to "look" a certain way, but tend to go for comfortable, practical and inexpensive clothing, that doesn't stand out in any special way. Keeping my expenses relatively low enables me to have a job on my terms, that leaves me plenty of spare time and energy to pursue sports, hobbies, and develop my inventions (which may end up earning me money someday, but that's not why I work on them).

Like quality time outdoors, reading, pursuing hobbies, etc. It will also afford us the opportunity to retire at a young age.

He took an avocado out of his bag and placed it on the table far away from himself. He never ate it. Plus if none of their friends are out buying chicken feed how will they impress their peers what kind of free-trade-organic chicken feed they buy? It's all a bit ridiculous. Raise chickens, or don't. @dilfo the TV show Hannibal made me change my ways.
      After I was exposed to its sartorial excellence I could no longer lie to myself.
      I knew that I had to dress appropriately for my age so I exchanged my plaid shirt for a plaid three-piece suit.
      Well, and after a while I also changed all the other "annoying" pet peeves that I've developed over the years.
      To conclude: I first changed my attire and then adjusted my music taste (more mainstream music because not all pop songs are bad).
      I still listen to some of the bands like "Fleet Foxes" but that's only because they're actually good.
      As for listening to pop music: it was a great change because I started writing fingerstyle arrangements for most of the pop songs that I do like. And the best part about it is that the ladies seem to like it whenever I play songs that can recognize (like e.g. Ed Sheeran songs, they really seem to like those for some weird reason).
