    This is exactly what I have been waiting to see :). I owned the RDX 2013 AWD but never been off road as I live in the middle of the city. Great video and it is fun to watch. Thanks for putting RDX through the test.

    Acura adding the J35 but not SH-AWD was a colossal error on their part

    Im going to be purchasing one of these soon and this video was EXACTLY what I wanted to see. Never seen cars put to the test like this. Thanks for posting this!

    Honestly, Acura makes luxury tanks. My TL (not an off roading car) takes a beating from my job and where I live and it literally has nothing wrong with it and runs amazing. Just keep on top of the oil.

    I would imagine if you had all terrain tires it would’ve done better.

    Thank you for a nice and detailed review! I found the AWD vs SH-AWD comparison very helpful.

      Ayser Al-Kazzaz after seeing both what are your conclusions? I’ve always sworn by the SH-AWD and was disappointed when Acura stopped producing them in the RDX. How does the AWD system compare? Thanks!

    Nice review! Very fun to watch. Hopefully the next gen RDX will get the SH-AWD back.

    6:44 I just think it’s too steep, it is not that your vehicle is bad, it’s doing an amazing job

    Dave: I have two requests :)
    1) Please test a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk at the ORV park
    2) Try doing a "diagonal" test in that angle part you use. Try to get one front wheel and one rear wheel in the air. That REALLY tests the AWD/4wd systems.
    Love the videos!

    I have driven the Acura MDX, ZDX, and TL. All of them with SH-AWD. The key is yo have the traction control turned off. That enables the SH-AWD to fully engage.

    Hey Dave. Really enjoy the vids, especially the off-road parts. You sometimes mention an "off road playlist" on your channel, but I cannot see one. Am I mistaken?
    Keep it up, thanks a lot.

    I have a 2013 TL with SH-AWD and it is fantastic in the snow. My wife has the AWD RDX and it does ok but nothing like the SH-AWD...even in dry pavement the SH-AWD can be felt in quick turns.

    I love your videos Dave and I watch your channel every week. The camera settings for this video seem a bit off. I see distracting fuzzy lines whenever there is a lot of motion. You may want to shoot in 1080p or 720p. Interlace (i) doesn't work well on TH-cam.

    Acura makes good cars. My family has a 2004 MDX and although it's on its last legs it still drives really well (better than our 2010-2011 (IDR) Lexus RX)

    Dave which SUVs (middle size) can make the steep hill climb??
    Already failed:
    1 Acura RDX (CR-V) AWD system
    2. Mazda CX-5
    I would think that BMW X3, Audi Q5, Ford Kuga and other SUVs with a lock mode such as Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Rav 4, and Subaru Forester but I would like to see a list based on your experience :)
    I hope it is not too much to ask.
    Thanks

    At 5:30 in your video, it doesn't look like the rear tires are turning. Does the 2014 rdx still not supply power to the rear tires if the front tires spin ? search honda crv 2014 4wd failure to see what I mean.

    • @SparklingSilverCurls
      @SparklingSilverCurls 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, I didn't see them moving either. I'm glad you brought that up, I specifically watched this video bc of the CRV AWD issues discovered. I'm looking for an AWD vehicle after the past couple years of horrible winters in Cleveland, and wanted to stay in the Honda family (I have an 05 accord hybrid, which I love). Disappointing to see this AWD failing, too.

    • @panayiotispalmiris1750
      @panayiotispalmiris1750 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The european CR-V was supplied with a firmware update for the AWD module. I confirm I had same problem before the firmware update when off road and beach sand driving. Too bad the American Honda did not supply this firmware update to CR-V owners which gives higher torque capability to the rear wheels. I still drive offroad/sand/snow without any residual problems with CR-V AWD system. However I would prefer to have a more capable AWD system like Hondas SH-AWD system. Honda has lost confidence and reliability status with this "cheap" AWD system.

    • @just456bc
      @just456bc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      my MDX have a VTM-4 Lock so all 4 tires spin at the same speed regardless of ressistance, I dont know if this car does.

    • @panayiotispalmiris1750
      @panayiotispalmiris1750 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Νο lock mode for CR-V. It is automatically engaged only. It uses clutch type rear differential with up to 40 rear torque capability which engages when front wheels loose grip. It cannot do a lot of offroading because rear differential has no fins to dissipate heat effectively and/or no rear differential external cooler. Due to the absence of center differential the front/rear wheels do not spin at the same speed when AWD engages, and AWD cannot lock.

  • @NotSoSlimSchady

    You should've had some fun with it on the thicker ice patches. Other than that, good test. I'm sure if it was equipped with Acura's signature Super Handling All Wheel Drive System, it would've faired better on the hills. I actually have the 2014 RDX Tech AWD and it's a lot of fun to drive, no matter what the conditions. Like Acura's slogan, the RDX will advance.

      simple "AWD". SH-AWD is only in generations previous to 2013 and current ones (2019)

    Subaru Forester or Acura RDX ??

    • @tusharistherails
      @tusharistherails 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When buying a vehicle, these were two of my top contenders. In the end, the RDX won. I just didn't find the Subaru comfortable, and the fit and finish seemed quite mediocre in comparison to the RDX. Sure, you can get a "fully loaded" Forester for less than an RDX, but for me, the driving experience is more important than the tech component, and the RDX was (in my opinion) far superior.

    • @twystedhumour
      @twystedhumour 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have to agree with tusha. The Forester was noisier, and the turbo engine clacked undesirably. Seat bolstering was sub-par; I slid several times while going spiritedly through some curves. And the interior fittings just had too many gaps for my taste. The RDX, on the other hand, was quiet, it was easy to drive, and, surprisingly enough, didn't wallow as I thought it would while going through curves. Would it be nice to have SH-AWD back? Sure! But only if it doesn't affect gas mileage as much. As a working student who has to drive 40 minutes 1-way to the univ., the RDX's mpg was a big seller for me. Oh, and I came from a 2007 Outback that had leaking head gasket, a clutch that needed replacing, and had a faulty CV boot (front axle) that leaked 2x after getting it repaired.
