Recall the discussion with Jordan Peterson regarding his vision of DNA-like structures during a mushroom experience, and the counterpoint that DNA's appearance is common knowledge. You referenced Francis Crick. It's noteworthy that Crick also experimented with LSD, a 5ht2a agonist akin to mushrooms. The perception of DNA-like structures, which seem more tangible than our daily reality, is a fairly common experience and has been reported long before the modern scientific discovery of DNA.

    About discussion at 1:20:40
Brian talks about ultimately the reading from the instrument doing the measurement of a quantum state needs to be seen by some conscious agent and thus some may think consciousness has some role. That is a very misleading analysis. There is a confusion between two types of events (E1) vs (E2 or E3) :
    - event E1 where an instrument (say a video camera) makes a measurement on a quantum state to make it collapse and records the reading
    - event E2 when a conscious entity - say Alice reads that recorded reading and groks what it was. Note this can happen 10 years later and 1 billion miles away.
    - event E3 when a conscious entity - say Bob reads that recorded reading and groks what it was. Note this can happen 20 years later and 2 billion miles away.
    sure.
But Event E1 is when the collapse happened. The lab may even have been destroyed the next day after the instrument with recorded reading was taken out and sent first to Alice and then to Bob. What does it even mean to talk about Alice collapsing the quantum state after 10 years, when the lab was destroyed the next day. That is absurd.
E1 is not the same as E2
E1 is not the same as E3
E2 is not the same as E3
but the measurement only happened at E1 and the quantum state collapsed then.
So this shows us that a instrument like a video camera - which every one will agree collapsed the wave function.
Sure a macroscopic, conscious entity present in the lab could have done the "measurement" to collapse the wave function, but not because it is conscious, but because it is macroscopic.
The labs that develop quantum computers do not shields the quantum state from consciousness of human lab personnel. They put the quantum state in vacuum separated from air molecules lest they will destroy it.
So can we please stop bringing in consciousness into Quantum Physics context from now on?

Man only has the understanding of the meaning that he himself has given that meaning, and this power of giving meaning to man is only through his intelligent self-aware mind, which is caused by his sensory organs, but the question is that this self-aware and intelligent mind of man, this self-awareness and intelligence What does he owe himself to? Because every creature that was created from the benefit of this air and earth is not beyond this air and earth.

About discussion at 1:30:00 Brain generates consciousness. Brain is a electro-chemical machine. Chemistry as a whole is based on quantum physics. So it is not clear why only collapse of wave function is micro-tubules is considered important for the generation of consciousness. The overall chemistry in the brain which is completely dependent on quantum effects is responsible for generating consciousness. The bonds in chemical reaction have to deal with "quantum" orbitals of electrons in atoms and molecules.

About discussion at 29:00 Brian seems to be wondering about how physics gives rise to self experience. He should ask as simple question - if the brain is not working in a normal way will one have a self experience. If a brain is injured - parts of consciousness are affected. If the brain is under the influence of alcohol or drugs the conscious experience is affected. Under general anesthesia the consciousness is completely gone. The reason is that brain has subsystems for the perception of senses, but also has the subsystems that observe other subsystems and register and classify that as conscious experience. When those later subsystems are not in working condition we loose their function which is the internal recognition of consciousness.
    Think of it this way:
    - stage 1 - we use to think sickness was caused by wrath or curse of a deity
    - stage 2 - we found out that sickness is cased by microorganisms like bacteria or viruses (biology)
    - stage 3 - we precisely know the biochemistry of how viruses cause the pathology. In fact that is what allows us to develop precise vaccines - like mRNA COVID 19 vaccine. (molecular biology, bio-chemistry, organic chemistry, or simply chemistry)
    About consciousness:
    - stage 1 - we use to think there is something like soul or spirit that gives us consciousness
    - stage 2 - the consciousness is generated by the brain
    - stage 3 - we will understand how brains ( or its subsystems I talk about in paragraph 1) actually do it.
We are at stage 2 with respect to understanding brain and consciousness.

From my own experience I would argue that we don't lose consciousness during general anesthesia. I could remember stuff from while I was under. People remember stuff even though they were brain dead. I belive it is just we typically don't remember such experiences.

    • @SandipChitale
      @SandipChitale 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@EmmetCromie From my own experience it was completely opposite. I do remember distinctly, when I was put under general anesthesia, for a appendicitis operation that, I was not conscious at all. I did not remember anything, absolutely anything after it wore off. It was very very different compared to a very deep sleep. For example, even in a very deep sleep, if there is a loud noise or someone pinches me I will wake up. But clearly I did not feel the operation or I am sure I would not have suddenly come out of anesthesia even if there was a life threatening earthquake or fire, when I was under anesthesia. It is as if those hours did not happen from the point of view of my awareness.
Of course, the effect of general anesthesia varies from person to person. I presume though that you did not feel the pain of the procedure when you were under general anesthesia.

@@EmmetCromie Not sure what you mean. I know I did not have any sense of existence. It felt distinctly different than deep sleep. Just like your experience is true so is mine :) .
It is possible that in your case the general anesthesia did not do its full job, so that you do not even get psychological trauma due to the invasive procedure. And it is true that anesthetics affect differently on different people. But most people I have talked to share my experience of completely being gone unlike deep sleep.

And was all the energy contained in that volume? Or did the process create energy in a sort of runaway fashion?
Maybe that volume was a portal through which the energy flowed, from another domain.

Nothingness has no limitations on possibilities. Otherwise it wouldn't be nothingness. Only possibilities are all the autogenic rules a finite turing machine can compute. Therefore those rules come into existence within nothingness. Time is the application of the rules onto each other. Space is the relationship between the rules. Quantum mechanics is a result from all the possible application orders of the existant rules. General relativity emerges from the dimensionality of a region of space changing due to space deleation/folding rules. The expansion of the universe are the self inserting 3 dimentional rules exponentially creating more of themselfs. Don't know how dark matter could fit into this hypothesis. But outside that idea consiousness is a story generated by a neural game engine for use by a simulated person for generating actions, predicting the future and planning around to maximize our reward function.
