Thanks, yeah there were some tense moments for sure. The thing that really caught me (Jay) off guard was how the water kept rising even after high tide passed and it was supposed to be receding. "Storm surge" can be pretty intense, and come with any windstorm, not just hurricanes.
Thankfully you both got through it and collectively gained more understanding so you can make safe decisions at the next beach. Another scary thing watching the episode was that the loose sand might have prevented a speedy exit. @@HomeARoam

I’m absolutely intrigued about learning about beach camping in Texas as I’m in Louisiana and it’s really close for me but I never imagined I’d be learning about it from Canadians😂. We camped there 6 years ago and really enjoyed it. High tide came up to the tires on the travel trailer but no issues. We'll probably go there again but after watching your video we will more careful.
Yeah it was great until the wind picked up and the tides got bigger. A few of the other die hards sunk into the sand a bit with the water going past their rig, but as far as we know they were still able to get out. Safe travels!
Can't say we would recommend it. When the weather is nice, camping on the beach is amazing. During a storm is a whole other game that we don't really want to repeat.
Thanks! We have DJI wireless mics, but mostly just used the GoPro internal mic on this one. I cleaned up the audio substantially using Davinci Resolve's AI "voice isolation" feature. Works pretty well.
LOL Years ago we camped on Little Shell which requires 4 wheel drive to get there as it is getting close to Mansfield Pass. Virtually no one there The second night the wind and rain came up so bad our sleeping bags were sopping wet and we had to sit on the coolers at the edge to hold down the tent. The next morning everything was hung out to dry when the game warden came by and asked how we survived the hurricane. It had hit Mexico and we got the outer band winds. Had no idea we were in a hurricane. Then about 15 years later went to a friends time share in Port Isabel with our small children. The hurricane that was coming required evacuation. The water was to our truck's running boards as we drove out without having a real vacation. The end of our beach trips on any type of potential hurricanes on the map. Plus people said South Padre was prettier than Corpus where we had always gone. Went to college in Corpus. But none of the Texas beaches are pretty compared to Florida which Destin is gorgeous. Mississippi beaches are uglier than Texas. Shallow brown water whereas Texas is dingy green water.
I am 71 years old when I was a kid in mid 1960,s my Dad rented a travel trailer and we were camping in Galveston beach still remember the sand getting in the trailer what a mess , I have a trailer today my wife said one day let,s camp on the beach I said let me tell u the story of camping on the beach , forgot to say also my Dad got stuck that week, would never do that again !!
Good thing you guys made it out of there no problems, My rule is where ever there is flat sandy beach , the ocean can reach , A no Camp zone for me. Anyhow stressful time im sure.
I live in the Rio Grande Valley and honestly the beach here is horrible with WIND. You’ll have salty sand in your vehicle and RV for the rest of their lives LOL. No No for me LOL.
Yeah, it was a calculated risk. I mean, really we risk the truck and trailer every time we hitch it up and drive somewhere. 🤷♂️ If you thought that was risky you should watch our Baja series. 😁 But in all seriousness, it was a scary lesson and we're definitely going to remember and respect what high tide plus a wind storm can do to a beach.

Amazingly well, surprisingly. He jumps and hides at people going by and loud noises, but crashing waves right outside his door didn't phase him 😅
