Well said, Jimmy. Those of us who grew up in that era did not realize what a unique and wonderful time we were priviledged to inhabit, and what a wonder that it is just ‘gone’ and the present generation has no knowledge of that mist of time. So strange. You, sir, are a wonder. Thank you for the beautiful songs you have given to the world.

I have no words for how much this interview affected me. A lifetime of wisdom and genius distilled into an hour. What I love most about Jimmy and this interview (besides the amazing stories and sheer joy it conveys) is the glimpse you get into the man behind the music. Everything that makes you love Jimmy is exactly what goes into his music: passion, commitment, loyalty, dedication, thoughtfulness, and all the rest. It's a great reminder that the music we create ultimately can only reflect what is within ourselves, and people will only listen if we can offer something that has worth. Jimmy has that in spades. Thanks so much Warren and Jimmy!

As an aspiring songwriter myself (but at 64 I wonder when the aspiring ends lol) I love to listen to other songwriters - especially a giant like Jimmy Webb, pull back the curtain and give us some insights into their process. But with Jimmy the man is such an enthusiastic, humble, funny and engaging storyteller it makes me see how his songs are such a natural and remarkable extension of his being. What a treasure and gifted man in so many respects! Thank you for giving him this platform and unique peak into this particular era of musical history

Wow what a fantastic interview! This man is such a legend. The songs he did with Glen Campbell (one of the greatest guitarists ever) are an absolute highpoint of modern music. Growing up with '60s music I was constantly inspired by certain records with great drumming, great bass & guitar playing etc . . . it was decades before I realised the Wrecking Crew guys played on all those records. Jimmy Gordon and Hal Blaine . . . greatest drummers ever. Joe Osborn . . . man. I'm also a big fan of fusion guitarist Larry Coryell. I have an early '70s album called The Real Great Escape, the only album I know of that Larry sings on, and he does 2 incredible Jimmy Webb songs on there, one of which is P.F. Sloan. That tune's haunted me all my life. Thanks Warren & Jimmy!

Excellent interview. Eric Clapton once said (I'm paraphrasing) the best players know when to lay out. Thanks for letting Jimmy speak uninterrupted. I love that he felt comfortable ranting a bit, but he was certainly correct about the power of music. Those of us lucky enough to have grown up in the 60s have the music of that time in our DNA. I believe the music I loved literally altered my being and I would be something less than the man I became without it. Anyone who still has a deeply emotional response to hearing the likes of Norwegian Wood or Wichita Lineman knows what I mean.

Listened to Guns and Roses play Witcheta Lineman live in New Zealand earlier this year. It stunned the crowd at first, wasn’t what they came for or expected and then people got drawn into it, I guess with Axels faith in the tune he was performing, and in the end there was huge applause. For me born in 66 it’s practically a lullaby. It’s a clean song with a perfect balance between lyric and sound complementing each other.

One of the many warm attributes that Jimmy has always had is his ability to NOT brag or toot his own horn. He talks about Johnny Rivers and "Rewind" then the Wrecking Crew who played most of the instruments, complimenting them on and on, for good reason mind you, but then he neglects to tell the unaware listener, that he wrote 7 out of the 11 songs on the LP!!! Recall playing this LP for the first time on our TV/record player combination that were popular in the 60's, and was just blown away at even more tunes that I was finding out about that Jimmy had written!! Favorites include, "Tunesmith", "Do What You Gotta Do" and "Sidewalk Song/27th Street" which I related too 100%!!! thanks again for this beautiful interview , thanks Jimmy for all your music and how you have touched my soul. Jimmy Webb is an amazing talent-definitely one of my favorites

This is such a fabulous interview. Jimmy Webb is such a talented songwriter and his musical creations are such gems. I saw Glen Campbell in concert in Hamilton many years ago and have listened to his music on cassettes and then on TH-cam videos like the slower version of "Galveston". Art Garfunkel singing Jimmy Webb songs like "All I Know" and many others is such a gift from this Songwriter to be able to listen to. I think people can find comfort in these very high quality compositions at various times in their lives. I think Jimmy Webb is in a category of his own among Songwriters as he wrote so many beautiful songs, but Paul Simon and Willie Nelson are also so talented. It amazes me at the modesty about their talent shown by those songwriters. Every single time I listen to "All I Know" and the slower version of "Galveston" by Glen Campbell, which Jimmy Webb plays piano on, I have to marvel at how beautiful it is. Art Garfunkel's son, Art Garfunkel Jr. sings "When a Man Loves a Woman" in German with a Gospel Group on TH-cam. He has an excellent voice even higher than his father. I don't speak German, but I left a comment on the site that it sounded like a great song to have on a movie soundtrack (in English I guess as well as German for Europe). I'm not sure if anybody else agreed but it surely was an excellent recording. Again, this was such an interesting interview. Jimmy Webb remembers so much in detail and that makes it very informative. He surely is a National Treasure.

What fantastic questions! I’ve always wondered where Jimmy learned music and how he could write and arrange MacArthur Park at such a young age. Thanks for revealing that here. Tremendous interview!

Jimmy Webb was the first time I ever looked up who wrote a song because I just had to know who wrote the song. After that, I became obsessed with knowing who wrote my favorite songs. And Jimmy Webb's name kept turning up, far more often than anyone else. What a writer! Gorgeous songs.

Thank you! This was a great interview with one the all time greatest songwriters. I love the way you asked a question, then just stepped aside so he could go deep. I’ve read his book Tunesmith multiple times. It’s one of the best books on songwriters out there. I’d pay for another hour or two. I suspect he’s got tons of more insights. The big lesson from he got from Motown and the “Follow-up” method are money.
