    I just got home from seeing Jimmie in concert at The Narrows center in Fall River ma. He was amazing! He apologized for talking too much, I could listen to him talk about music for hours, he's fascinating. On top of that, his singing has never been better. He is a true gift.

    I've seen Jimmy just with piano himself about 4 times. Also with Glen Campbell, and a concert with Michael Feinstein, sort of like dueling pianos. So 6 times I believe it's all good, we need to be thankful he's around and chooses to play small venues for his many fans. I appreciate his meet and greets after the shows for photos, and autographs as well. a truly wonderful loving spirit of a man who just happens to write some of the most memorable songs of my life time. thanks Jimmy PS also love your story behind the song segments, very entertaining , keep them up!!

    Late 60s early 70s most creative time for Jimmy and music IMHO.

    Nice to hear a mention of Geoff Emerick.

    i read geoff emerick's book. i loved it. there's also a multi-part thing on DVD called, "Deconstructing the Beatles" that is just great. that guy even has their olf studio log-in sheets and he's studied who did what, when. it may sound dull but it's anything but. my fave was he played Moonlight Sonata and then shows how Lennon, hearing Yoko Ono playing it and asking her if she could play the chords, "backwards" wrote "Because" that song on Abbey Road which is as hauntingly beautiful as anything they ever did.

    I’ll be darned, Jimmy Webb. I may be the only one, but this boy from Enid loved his songs on “Yard Went On Forever” (Richard Harris notwithstanding). Hats off to the man from Laverne.

    At 2:58 no one told Jimmy that his collar size tag was hanging out of the back of his shirt. Who produced this interview that you would not only not tell him before the interview started while looking through the lens when he sat down but also during the editing process someone just said ahh too bad it's too late to edited it out. LOL. Wow.

    If a 20 year old Jimmy Webb had only ever written ‘Up Up and Away’, he’d still be a shoe in for musical genius stature… but there’s all the other killer songs, too.

    • @TheChurchStudio
      @TheChurchStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MacArthur Park sealed his legacy for me and that was 1967?...then every time I heard a Glen Campbell tune on the radio.......I
      d find out it was another Webb tune. I also recall purchasing a Johnny Rivers 45 and the flip side was complication of about 6 snippets of partial tunes, all of them very interesting and memorable...of course more Jimmy Webb songs!!...the icing on the cake (sorry pun) was hearing "The Worst That Could Happen" by the Brooklyn Bridge and finding out ANOTHER Webb penned tune...as much as I loved Bacharach and Lennon/McCartney Webb was entering into that class for me at least!! God Bless Jimmy Webb!!!

      @@brucetowell3432 I agree, he's top echelon, no doubt. Agree w/Lennon & Mac, Burt, but I'd add Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, and A C Jobim... it was quite an Era. Nyro, Lamm, etc.

    The Geoff Emerick bio was not great - bias possibly with lies. Jimmy's best songs are the least well known: - Sunshower/Someone is Standing Outside/To make it Easier on You/Summers Daughter/Careless Weed/Jerusalem/Gone.... and especially check out ALL of The Animals Christmas to name a few.Amen

    Just because it is easier to manipulate sound today, doesn’t equate to “cheating” in my opinion.

  • @alphabeets
    @alphabeets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’m the biggest Jimmy Webb fan in the world, but I feel that if you want to talk about “cheating” it’s more a cheat when an artist goes out on the road with just a piano to try to perform / recreate the magic of those full bands and string sections on the records. For Pete’s sake, take a band out on the road. Give them work, give the audience at least a minimal band to listen to. Solo piano doesn’t cut it.

    • @paulenglish6059
      @paulenglish6059 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you're right - when the legend that is Jimmy Webb goes on tour he should have a full orchestra, the Wrecking Crew & a choir each night to re-create those wonderful timeless albums of his, in addition to all the great songs he has composed for other artists.
      Who wants to see one of the greatest composers in music, sit at his piano, play it beautifully & sing his own extraordinary songs? Me! I do! And I'll be with him in Dublin this weekend not for one of his concerts here, but both of them! The solo piano cuts it, trust me!

    • @alphabeets
      @alphabeets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@paulenglish6059 I know. I’ve been to many of his solo shows. But your dramatic reply is over the top, that’s not the point of my post. Of course he isn’t going to do what you postulate. And it isn’t what I suggested. But I feel it’s a cheat to the fans to not at least bring a band to flesh out a reasonable performance. Using digital tools to record audio samples as he mentioned is not a cheat. They are simply new tools that are easier to use. But it isn’t cheating. Jimmy should perform more of his album cuts for his hard core fans as well. I stopped going because it’s always the same old pop hits. Great songs of course. But his real fans want the other stuff too. If you disagree, it’s all cool. 👍
