I reckon Steve may very well be the most intelligent man in the music industry. His list of talents appears endless. While most of us were just trying to be able to play without making too many mistakes, he was redesigning his guitar. Incredible

What the hell? How can this interview have generated so few views? Steve is known by millions. Can't wait to see him in February with SMB. Hope I can get tickets. And I sincerely hope Steve's wife Janine recovers as fully as possible as soon as possible from her cancer. If Steve's going on a mini-tour, this seems to be the case...
Thank you for posting. I heard "I'm Freaking Out" on KCSM when Dregs of the Earth came out. I was 17 at the time. I am 60 years old and have listened to a lot of great bands but the Dixie Dregs is the GOAT.

Thank you for sharing this interview. I got turned on to Steve Morse from a Guitar Player Magazine cover story/interview in the early 80's. I've been a fan ever since and he has been a tremendous influence on me ever since. Steve is awesome :)
To me Morse has never gotten the credit he truly deserves. He is a compositional genius, and his playing is phenomenal. Also, not to mention a genius in the realm of effects and guitar modification.

impressive he got into University of Miami without a HS diploma. This guy didn't sit on his ass waiting for something to happen he went out and make it happen

I checked my journal to see that I wrote Guitar Player magazine on 7/23/1978 to request that Steve Morse and Andy West of the Dixie Dregs be featured in an article. Lo and behold a month later there they are in print! I was so happy!
I remember working night crew back then and DJ Chuck Randall on KROQ would sometimes open his show with “Punk Sandwich”. I thought “where in the world did this music come from”? I went out to my nearest Licorice Pizza and bought their first 3 albums. Shortly after that “Dregs of the Earth” came out and the hook went even deeper re instrumental music. “The Great Spectacular” is still one of my favorite Morse tunes (especially if I am driving!). Thank you so much for sharing this - thought not thought possible I’ve gained an even deeper insight to Steve and his music ( and his bandmates are no slouches either).

Steve is constantly swithcing pick ups and coil splitting and picking position as he is playing - its rediculous how good he was, and still going
