1. I love the detail of Coraline's real world being muted in colour while the people are unique & genuinely interesting, while the "other" world is bright & colorful and the people are just endlessly agreeable puppets. This is because whereas the latter is a colourful illusion, the former is real and its the *people* that give it real "colour". 2. If you look closely you can see that everything around the Other Mother is actually trying to WARN Coraline. Other Father in particular throws CONSTANT hints to Coraline while avoiding her ire. His song in particular is incredibly creepy in retrospect.
Fun facts: 1. 9:08 Notice the double loop on the lowercase "o" on Home for the writting on the cake. Its a detail that, according to graphology, implies dishonesty. Meaning that while Coraline is *welcome* she is NOT *home* 2. The medal Bobinsky wears was a type given to civil & military personnel that was sent out to deal with the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Possibly explaining why his skin is *literally* blue.
So some random facts about this: - Coraline likely still lost at the end. The Well itself is the portal/origin of the portal to the Other World. And when Coraline threw the key in, she likely gave the Beldum exactly what she was looking for. - The book is much darker and goes into more detail about the deaths of the ghost children. - In the book, it's implied that the Beldum (the Other Mother) is not the most dangerous entity on the property. Each time Coraline goes through the passage, the walls become more active and it gets more windy...like breathing. The implication is that the house itself is alive and an eldritch entity that eats lives. The little tunnel is basically the throat and Coraline is walking straight in each time. The Beldum is just a parasite that's taking advantage of the situation. However, with the tunnel becoming more active, it basically means that whatever this entity is, it's slowly waking up.
@@JermStarlinI am not sure about the book sections however, the fact that the well is a portal is a theory, alongside the other dozen that honestly make complete sense. It is safe to assume that every single thing within this movie is done on purpose, due to the time and effort spent in it.
@@JermStarlin The biggest theory is that Coraline actually never left the Beldum's dimension, this theory being rooted off the straight nose of the mother at the end, however many argue its a lighting error.
The parents are stressed. I believe the mother and Coraline got into a vehicle-related accident which drained all their money and forced them to move. This is shown by the mother wearing a 'neck brace', them not having food or money, them only being able to tip $1, etc. There is a quick scene that mentions it, I'm not going to lie I completely missed the scene when I initially saw it. And I thought the mother's 'neck brace' was a turtle neck/ a part of her sweater at first too lol But basically, they were stressed about meeting their deadline so they could start to get back on track financially. That's why they constantly dismissed Coraline in favor of their work for a majority of the film.
This was my favourite movie growing up along with "Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children", I first watched it when I was around 6 or 7 and I still watch it constantly.
Coraline is a great movie. I used to be scared of it when I was young, but after watching it years later, it's actually really funny. The Beldam is a dark villain. It reminds me of La La Loopsy dolls I had 😈😈😈😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣
The Wborn with button eyes lost his arm because he put it through the door, which shows that he couldn’t pass through into the real world It was a gesture to show Coraline he had to stay behind
I saw this movie for the first time when it came out in theaters with a group of girls for a sleepover. We were all below the age of 10 and it just so happened to be storming terribly that night. When I tell you all of us sobbed the whole way back to the sleepover house and through the night 😂😂😂
Want to know some creepy theories? - Wybie's grandma knows about the other mother and she purposefully rented the house to someone with kids to protect Wybie from being taken by the other mother (they are both around the same age as the kids taken) - Coraline never left the other world... we all saw how the other mother can shift and look like the real mother (and suddenly the "real" mother's nose is straight and not slightly curved to a side) + the garden looks almost identical to the one in the other world. Creepy bonus: the tools you see at the beginning used to make the doll are old embalming tools
I thought about the crooked nose theory and it could be that Coraline always complained about anything, so she saw all the mistakes on everybody. But then she learns to be happy for what she has so the minor details arent relevant for her anymore. Dads hairline looks also better, and maybe thats why the surroundings look a bit happier. But this is just my theory the one where she stays sounds a lot cooler.
Funny how most people that react to this don’t even notice that the old ladies in the other world didn’t have button eyes before becoming their younger selfs 😂
In High School I had the pleasure of meeting someone who worked on this movie in Photography class, and it only further made me appreciate this movie for the art that it is, this movie is truly an amazing piece of art
Imagine they made a Coraline 2 and expanded on the theory that at the end of the movie Coraline’s mother is actually still the other mother cause her nose is straight and her mother has a curved nose
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to some of the behind the scenes of this movie!!! its UNREAL! they are still putting behind the scenes things out today about it! my fav fact is that all of coralines sweaters were hand knit!
Take a shot everytime bruh says 'i can't even lie' lmaoo Edit: the door slamming scene catches everyone off guard i remember watching it as a kid n i had a nightmare about this scene and even now it's unsettling xd
When I was in the second grade, my teacher gave all of the students a DVD for Christmas. This is the movie I got. It terrified me as a kid, but I love it now!
this movie has a lot of hints a theories my personal favorites are the other father was trying to save coraline the song he sings the first time she goes to the other world is him warning her and with every time she goes back the other mother starts looking more and more like spider but theres so many hints and theories they are all very interesting!!!
When this came out, I had this movie on repeat. My dad got it for me on DVD in 3D. I would force my older brothers to watch it with me in my room and everyone in the house hated it because they thought it was scary yet a 6-year-old wants to play it on repeat. Looking back, I don't know why I loved it so much because it is kinda scary. Funny how this movie didn't give me nightmares, yet I watched Finding Nemo and had a nightmare that I was Nemo's mom when she got ate by the shark. I was a weird kid. I also love watching this movie back because I always notice subtle hints of the other mother in the real world. She truly was there the whole time. I wish that someone would expand the story so I can see the origin of the other mother.
Honestly this movie traumatized me as a kid and still scares me and I like horror movies and others don't scare me but something about this movie freaks the shit out of me.
I grew up on this movie, a long with number 9, the Golden compass, and James and the Giant Peach. Thanks to my aunt I experienced some amazing films ❤❤
I saw a theory once that the Beldam uses ‘soul sand’ to give life to things and control them (attained from the souls of the 3 ghost children maybe). She fills the doll up with sand in the beginning and uses it to spy on Coraline, the other Wybie shows that he is made of sand when his hand disappears. The theory is that the more sand she uses, the more humanity she gives (unintentionally), which is why prominent figures like the other father and the other Wybie tried to help her rather than doing what the Beldam wanted, unlike smaller things like the rats/mice and the plants in the garden which just did as they were told. Since the Beldam couldn’t get Coraline’s soul when she asked to sew the buttons, she began running low on the sand and that could explain why things were beginning to fall apart towards the end - ie, Bobinsky being made up of rats instead of being himself, the dancers being gummy sweet things instead of people, the other father being a pumpkin etc
The thing with the parents is the movie tells us a lot of things without stating them Them moving out to the pink palace where it's a shared building, maybe they lost their previous home Paying the delivery guy a 1 dollar tip, showing they have financial issues The mom's neck being covered and her mentioning an accident Them being overstressed by the publication of the book Even the meal seemed cheap which Coraline complained about And later the dad's dropped at a Gardening store probably to find an opportunity for their book Etc All that paint a pretty different picture, they seem neglectful but they're especially stressed out and in a dire situation After the book plan worked they're way more chill and you can see how they usually are with their daughter when gardening
I'm Brazilian, I remember watching this movie several times in the Brazilian version and a lot of scenes are removed. Like, they completely skipped the scene where the ladies are half naked, even tho Coraline says "E elas estavam semi-nuas!". But they never were in that version.
That's how the Belldam messed up. She got it all wrong. Coraline wasn't unloved as the belldam saw. Coraline was loved and knew this treatment was temporary. She loves her parents but was just bored as any child would be when they get uprooted from their friends and home while the parents have to work. Coraline was bored, not miserable.
Tbh i had a theory: The cat belong to the other world like the Beldum or the so said Alive house and is actually a nice entity guiding us. Since look how he understand Coraline in both worlds and even travel from one to another.
