Love the series title. People get lost in genre hairsplitting to the detriment of... everything. All fiction is fantasy. Hell, much of what proffers itself as non-fiction is also fantasy.

The Burrowers Beneath was my introduction to Brian Lumley. Your video has inspired me to pull some of his books out of my collection, and added the Khash books to my shopping list. 😅

Great overview on Lumley’s mythos fiction, just what I’ve been looking for!

Thanks for posting - this got me interested in reading Brian Lumley so I read Tharquest And The Lamia Orbiquita. Great story now I need to read more from Brian Lumley.

Titus Crow and De Marigny one of the most opposing companionships in the Cthulhu Mythos as de Marigny slowly realises that his friend isn't stark staring bonkers. Lord of the Worms being one of Lumley's best short stories with the young Crow, claustrophobic with layer upon layer of growing horror. Though I've read and reread them numerous times, they always seem to present something new. Nice one Daniel.

Great video! I love anything to do with the Cthulhu Mythos. I have read and enjoyed a few Brian Lumley books, but now I see, I have a lot more I need to read. Thanks for the in depth video.

I did not see it in your collection but have you ever read Demogorgon? It may be in one of the omnibuses. If you have, what was your thoughts on it. As your aware I am a big fan of Lumley and specifically the Necroscope series. I need to revisit the early books and pickup the most recent even though I have heard the Harry K. And the Pirates was not good, I still want to read it.

I don't have Demogorgon! Still on the list.

I ordered a bunch of these books based on this video. Great stuff. Are there any other authors who’ve successfully blended the Mythos with Sword & Sorcery?

There's Robert E. Howard of course. "Worms of the Earth," is an amazing short story. Then there is Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique stories. And Richard L. Tierney's Simon of Gitta stores (Sorcery Against Caesar).

I enjoyed the first few Necroscope series as a teenager (I think I read the first 3 or 4) but they did go rapidly downhill as the series progressed ( I seem to remember people crawling inside each other as some kind of 'erotic' act - or was that some dodgy porn I watched as a kid?). I also recall Khai of Khem as being dreadful, even as a teenage reader (that story also had some weird fetishy, mutilation sex stuff going on).
I recently (tried) reading the Transition of Titus Crow but couldn't finish it. It had some interesting ideas and episodes in parts but was laughably, eye-rollingly bad in others. That experience has put me off trying any more of his stuff.

Sounds like he's definitely not an author for you. :) We all have authors like that, for sure.

Yeah, it's a shame as he's a writer I feel I should like. I love the Mythos, S&S, C.A.S. etc so in theory Lumley should be a sure thing. Unfortunately not, it seems. @@allfictionisfantasy

I mean, I love mythos fiction but I'm not a huge fan of HPL or CAS, so.... :D I think the more one likes HPL and CAS, the less one will like Lumley. I like Lumley because he's a bit bonkers, and that he embraces the heroic nature of pulp fiction.

I respect what Derleth did, but I don't respect him as an author, his writing is mediocre at best, unremarkable and easily forgettable.

I've really enjoyed about 1/2 of Derleth's fiction I've read. He's very workman like in terms of prose / style, but I think his stories are generally entertaining. But of course I like him mostly as an editor and publisher.
