Read these many years ago and still have them on my shelf. Great reads. These deserve to be collected into a deluxe hardcover.

Never ran across this series before, I'll have to give it a try. The Irish backdrop is definitely a plus. I read Stephen Lawhead's Eirlandia series which, while light on the fantasy aspects, made me want more set in Ireland. It's going to be where my next novel is set, so currently researching for that.

Isn't that the way it goes? :) I own FAR more unread books than read books.

About a month ago I was wondering what would be a good bard read. Guess I came to the right place. Thanks!

The Spell Singer books from Alan Dean Foster are a lot of fun.

Books 1 and 2 are Excellent. Kind of fell off the cliff afterwards. Haven't finished book 5 yet.

I will most likely avoid book 5 all together, simply because it's not in a matching mass market edition, with the DM cover art.

Picked this one up due to your recommendation. I'll echo your praise. Definitely one of the better examples of sword & sorcery, which is a genre I want to like more than I actually do.
I might even have fewer gripes than you did. The only thing I feel worth mentioning is the final act. There were some awkward turns in the story. It felt slightly under-cooked.
    Overall: 4/5 stars

@@allfictionisfantasy I read the first on Kindle, so I won't have to do much hunting. Trying to keep the physical book collection low for the time being.
Disappointing to hear that the fifth physical cover isn't in the same style as the others. That kind of stuff drives me crazy. The first e-book cover is actually pretty great. The others are a little hit-and-miss, but on a positive note, they all match.
