As someone who is christian and studying bio chemistry I find it fascinating. Science almost shows me even more that their is a blueprint and cosmic meaning to life. If you disagree I find that odd as many scientists use science to prove God while many are sucked into it as their False idol.
I just want to drop by and say something that might help and motivate others...I am extremely grateful for Professor Dave for these videos about Biochem and the fact that he explained it in ways that a non-book guy like me can understand. Science has always been my worst subject follow by math. I avoided science courses for the past 14 years because I'm always afraid of it, and beginning of this year I had to take this monster of science course for my undergrad. Due to my life situations, I don't have the time to go through the prerequisites for college level Biology, Intro to Chemistry 1 & 2, and Organic Chemistry 1 & 2. So I applied to this university that lets me bypass those courses in order for me to take Biochem, which came with a big cost of course. Anyway, because of Professor Dave, I passed this course with a B WITHOUT any knowledge of Calculus, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, and to make it worst, I never even opened the Biochem textbook from my school because I'm not a book guy. It depends on your professor to make Biochem heavy on math or not but mine was heavy on the calculus and Organic Chemistry part. I highly suggest you to take the prerequisites though, because the struggle I had to pull through and the amount of work I had to put in were indescribable. Watch and rewatch his videos and take notes!
I like how about halfway through the video you get to all the other information necessary in general and organic chemistry that people should know before attempting biochemistry. It really shows the amount of knowledge the general public doesnt have access to unless they take on student loans or spend time educating theirselves through expansive practice. I came here from watching you describe abiogenesis and biochemietry.
Man the intro slaps hard cuz i used to watch your video before tests in school and now I'm back here cuz I'm going to med school next month and I dont know bubblegum about chemistry.
Professor Dave is seriously the best!! I've understood a lot of Chemistry topics that I've struggled with in the past by watching his videos, and this Introductory video hypes me up for my incoming Biochem course this sem! Thanks a lot Prof. Dave!
Thank you so much for making these. Chemistry is the class I've most avoided in my life, while majoring in Biology and Kines. I'm finally going back to school to finish up, and braving that Chemistry run. This playlist is bolstering my confidence.
Professor Dave Explains is something so unique and special that I can only admire Mr. Dave Farina for dedicating so much of his time and passion to this channel. He is truly creating much needed original content complete with high/quality academic standards. I'm sure Mr. Dave knows that many people are watching these videos almost exclusively to pass exams and many are not purely interested in the subject matter. Unfortunately a large chunk of society has turned its back on the pursuit of knowledge, Mr. Dave's videos should be in the millions of views not in the thousands. I personally am enjoying these videos and have started to study in a more systematic manner. As always, a good teacher makes the subject all the more interesting and engaging. Thank you Sir!
Thank you for breaking down what the hell I was learning from highschool to undergrad! I am so bummed it took this long for someone to explain the differences of the studies biology, biochem, chem, and physics and how they work together instead of counselors telling you these are required classes to graduate ... I really enjoyed the organization of your introduction and quick list of general and organic chem to know first or biochem will look like magic! Yes, that is exactly what biochem looks like to me right now because I did not care to take my gen / org chem seriously... like I remember small bits of redox reactions, reading the elements placements on periodic table, and organic chem structure rules but not in depth concepts to make thorough biochem connections. I just wanted to pass the class.... I did not realize they are all essential to understand biochem later on which is essential to my nutrition/medicine studies. Thank you, your video is great! The direction, guidance you give is essential so I will be starting with your general chem classes.
Abdirinko AVERVA I think I did good but I won’t know for sure until I get results in September I focused more on the exams of the previous years and on having a general understanding of all the structures. These videos helped only to change up things in between study sessions since they’re not detailed enough.
😂 I'm a biochem major and bio majors basically took the same courses I did but they didn't take analytical, biochem 2, physical chem 1, research based on chemistry. Many just minor in chem, you should think about it, you just need one extra chem class.
Yes!!!! I just started a BioChem course at UNC Chapel Hill! 👍🏽 so excited to see you're working on this playlist! Your organic chemistry videos saved my grade! 🤗
Thank you for this. I am an aspiring PA and my prerequisites ask for biochemistry. However I am a medical illustration degree holder and do not need organic chemistry classes to apply to my chosen schools. I know the majority of schools require you take organic chemistry 1 and 2 and I am waiving over them. I will be using your videos in between classes/ semesters in order to be more comfortable in my biochemistry class. Wish me luck!

I'm infatuated with nutrition which has kept leading me to reading about things relating to biochemistry. (The krebbs cycle and so on)... It all looks like a never ending cyclical and overly complicated thing in which everything works in unison, hence homeostasis. It's complexity terrified me for so long until seeing this video!! Best teacher ever!!!
You teach so clearly and great! I'm just at the second term of Health science bachelor and my native language is not English and i really needed a source like your channel to better understand biology and chemistry! Thank you so much
I had to pausa at 2:40 to say B R O, your channel is exactly what I'm looking for! So not only is this course going exactly in the direction I want to go with learning about Biochemistry, but I might just really do pick Chemistry to be one of my end-of-highschool (European Matura) exams. Plus I guess those General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry videos will be both a fun re-freshing of my Chemistry knowledge, filling in possible holes and a nice basic introduction of the terminology in English, since mine is a mix of Bulgarian and German terminology, haha. :D Not to mention you seem to know how to make a decent video lesson. I have high expectations of you now. :D Syke!

1:26 I am a first year biochemistry student, so I have no clue if this is accurate or not, but I think the reasons that certain "diets" catch on, how people go all-meat or all-plant is because the human body is so complex and to think we can prescribe a general diet that will work for all people with perfect metabolism is wrong. Most diets that trend are pseudoscience, but the idea that a specific diet (that may be drastically different from what is average) may work for you is not, in the same way that some people digest gluten and some people don't. I can't wait for the near future when we can sequence our DNA and have machine learning give us the best diet for our genetics.
I just found your channel and I'm so grateful for it, thank you so much. Even though this is my first video I am still really excited for it all. I just started with med college and bcs of your videos about many topics I'll feel far less nervous about things 😁💕

I'm on 9th Grade and I want to learn this in advance. I will take a Biochemtry course in college and I think learning and understanding this now will be a really great help in the future.
I am struggling with my studies in biochem because of our new mode of learning this pandemic. It is hard to study alone, seeing our profs are not teaching via any platforms but they only give us sets of activities, exams and files to answer without any knowledge on it. It is hard really. Every student don't have equal IQ's. So i am relying in this channel for now on.
Oddly enough I had B's both semesters in general chemistry (A's in lab), in organic chemistry I had very high A's (97% in orgo 1 and 103% in orgo 2 with no curve) and after just finishing a semester of biochem, I felt it was the easiest class I've taken since my first semester. Others seem to disagree but I believe that physical sciences get easier the larger the scale becomes. That's probably why I struggle in math, it's scale is practically non-existant as it is entirely conceptual, just feels like numbers on a piece of paper rather than an explanation of reality to me.
I agree 100%. I only struggled in BioChem because I was dealing with a lot at home. SO I learned: compartmentalize and do not surround yourself with jerks. You grades will do amazing things.

But the old 27 still immediately follows the old 26, and I think the old 43 is still 16 beyond the old 27. Sorry, I didn't note the displacement.
