As I read on the EngineDJ Community site: the NEW and definitive standalone system has been created. Now I truly do not need the computer to prepare my music, and finally I can do it with the playlists from TIDAL. Thank you Phil for the update and thanks Denon/InMusic crew for listening to their users and implementing vast improvements on this 2.4.0 version
Just Gridded a bunch of Transition tracks with big tempo changes and it was tricky at first but got it. I was moving the Beat markers to line up then inserting an anchor and moving ahead and then moving the markers to line up and it would move all the markers to the left as well. I then inserted an anchor and moved just past it the used the tempo +- to line up to the new tempo and it worked perfectly, so now I can start mixing in a track at 90bpm let the middle change and move to 125bpm at the last part of the track and still mix out into the new track perfectly! So awesome, don’t forget to lock the track! Thanks for the tutorial and explanation 😊
Hey Phil, you can delete just one anchor point, right above the anchor button. Im so glad they did this. I got so frustrated having a $2000 piece of gear, and NOT being able to beat grid properly UGH! Kudos Denon!!
Great news, Denon update always add those little thing we ask on their forum, slowly but surely became a great software. As for this beatgrid, an undo button as you said would be great, and maybe a security (like a confirmation question) for the reset would be great (imagine the frustration if you hit "reset" instead of "lock" after working on a complicated track) :)
What a coincidence. I literally created these exact functions "nudge left and right, Mark 1st Beat" for Virtual DJ using a dedicated Pads page, so I can very very quickly correct the beat Grids 🤜
Very welcomed EngineOS update, right in time for Christmas! Several good improvements and fixes, relocate missing files and remember all EFX parameters even after shutdown are two big ones for me.

Great news for Prime users,, I tried it a few years ago with the Prime 2 but didn't quite like it,, I felt the software was a bit clunky so stayed with Algoriddim,, Only wish that Algoriddim could implement this feature with their software as I mainly play 80's Funk and Disco
@@digitaldjtips it never guesses the beat grid exactly, I’m always correcting it for every track,, sometimes it’s a bar off, other times it’s slightly off.. But the ability to be able to set the grid in multiple places would be a blessing,, We have been Asking for this feature in the Algoriddim forums for years.. It also struggles to correctly detect when there is a long accapela during a track.. Size 9. “ I am ready” is a perfect example of this

I work with some tracks that I've had to sometimes quite extremely adjust beat grids for in Rekordbox. When I plug my USB into this unit, will it honor my beat grids, or does it attempt to create it's own?

If you had no local music on your SD card but only beat grided songs from tidal or Spotify saved onto your SD card , when you went to play at a venue and say there was no Wi-Fi because they are in the middle of nowhere, will you be able to access those beat grided songs from tidal or Spotify on your SD card?
This is such a sweet bit of knowledge..im diggin the tool. i wonder if engine dj will come out with there own stems tool. I say this because goin digital was my prime 4 2 yrs ago. before that i was vinyl ...never played with serato.. Since beta stems on serato ive tried to play with serato..i dont like it, I think only for the fact waveform colors...throws me off. again, i believe i am adjusted to engine dj and i am fond of the 3 simple colors unlike serato, that shizzle looks like a funkin rainbow. I dont do rainbows, funks with my eyesight. And i like the stand alone option on prime 4 NO LAPTOP NESSASERY. But again when i did try serato on my laptop version 3.0 launch release the seperation sounds off. But when you hear it on someone youtube video its like butter. Sry for the rant, but serato spoiled(not in a good way either) for me.

I found it to be useful for short tracks. However it was a headache trying to correct the grids on a long track. I also found that it wasn’t moving the entire grid that preceded the anchor point, and for every grid I had to make changes. Another thing why did they eliminate the old format? Was it too hard to have both options?
Still something as simple as being able to sort your playlists by BPM are some of the most basic of basics that Denon still hasn't done! Kind of important for DJs (only local content, all streaming can't be sorted in any way. Every other platform can do this... Even Windows media player can do this)
Tidal needs to add the BPM to their own Metadata in order for Engine to have the ability to sort. Until this is implemented by Tidal, there is nothing Engine can do
I disagree sorry guys, it is actually on the client side that sorting is done. I understand the metadata being supplied by the streaming service is the best solution for obtaining bpm and key data (and really what is stopping Tidal from just running a few EC2 instances with a commercial license for Mixed In Key and then uploading that metadata with a super basic metadata field update to Engine) BUT look at solutions like Djay Pro, Serato, Traktor where it allows you to analyse entire playlists and then just saves the metadata locally. Engine does save metadata field already in tidal playlists so at least allow us to analyse whole playlists and then the bpm and key issue is solved. More so, and my big gripe is that only local playlists are able to be sorted. This is beyond basic functionality that I refer to as all platforms being able to do. I have countless playlists for every kind of occasion but I don't mix in order, and if I am not even able to sort by title, or artist (this is available tidal metadata so why can't we at least sort by this) let alone bpm or key it makes finding songs incredibly tiresome. Yeah I have become overly reliant on streaming but without going into I have to use some amount of streaming with my biggest client that has 8 venues throughout Asia. If it wasn't for needing local music for soundswitch shows I'd probably go all streaming. I've also been crapped on in the past by people telling me this kind of stuff is too much for the Prime Go or a standalone, and evidently adding something as computationally intensive as flexible Beatgridding isn't harming them one bit. Just ask for more and we'll get it.

The metadata data is recieved to Engine OS and is stored locally (albeit very temporarily) and sorted on that side. They probably have limited resources and clearly from this update they were fixing some critical functionality I am surprised they even released without (I mean come on.... We can only now change the bpm of Beatgrids, thanks but kind of expected really) so hopefully they will turn to these kinds of problems going forward.
People probably think I am ungrateful but it's not like we have not spent thousands of dollars supporting these companies, and don't forget they are massive companies with plenty of resources. What would you have preferred, the release of the SC Live range or Engine OS being able to have flexible Beatgrids a year ago, or an analysis queue, or stem support, or able to sort playlists, what about smart playlists or smart sorting (sorts playlists based on the current tracks bpm and key)??? Or what about creating their own platform that uploads Beatgrids, cue points and keys with the TidalTrackID (that's the actual key pair field on the meta tag) and takes a running average and let's DJs download perfect key grids, keys and mapped cue points... This to me is what would make Denon a club standard and a give clear market advantage over the "still" kings of the game. Just saying, but I see huge potential in Denon so I want them to succeed not just be the company that pushed Pioneer to be better. I'd pay a small subscription fee if it meant constantly having updates for Engine OS if it meant they stopped trying to push hardware the community didn't ask for. Seriously the Prime range was a genuine response to a genuine need, a good standalone. The SC Live range is just an iteration that Pioneer does to keep the money flowing, it's not bad but it's not what I want from Denon. The SC5000 and SC6000 let alone Prime units were meant to be future proofed. I would happily pay a subscription if it meant the Prime units were able to pay the licenses to integrate natively with Virtual DJ, Serato, Traktor, Rekordbox. These should have been the last players we bought for 5 years!
You mean in the desktop software? Doubt that will happen as to prep streaming music in desktop then export to USB would need offline streaming, which is not available and probably not likely to come in this way due to licensing issues, sadly.
Hi Phil. Just a thought . That’s to much correction to put a track on and moving back and forward. That’s why I think the Sync bottom comes to play. It’s to much fixing beat grind .

Using your headphones "the old DJ way" is perfectly valid too! Some DJs like their tracks gridded so they can think about doing other things (Extra decks, effects etc), and to use auto loops effectively, rather than spending time keeping tracks on beat. It's always your choice.

I feel the engine software isn't as accurate with it's beat grid detection compared to pioneer and considering engine's delay effects rely on the beatgrid it's been a major flaw with denon's hardware. I"ve also struggled adjusting engine's beatgrid on a computer but you made those struggles disappear with this walk through. thank you again!
It would be great if you can just warp the whole track with one anchor point or until the tempo in the track changes. It's kind of meticulous setting the beat grids through a whole track by hand.
As impressed as I am. I would be more impressed if you uploaded your grids and manually set keys to Denon and when you download tracks it downloads the absolute correct key and grid from the publicly provided pool every time. Bliss.
This was difficult to implement in the past due to everyone having their own files, but now everything is centralised between the big streaming players. It's 2022, AI is a merely a few years away from me asking it to build my own dj program so they need to get their crap together fast if they want market dominance.

Privacy and compensation issues aside (and obvious foresight), I feel like it's a really missed opportunity if all DJ software wasn't using beatgrid, key, loop, and cue info from all those dedicated DJs over the last 15 or so years to train new AI. Maybe the Old skool DJs could share their libraries' metadata for a profit back to these big players haha
Hopefully they'll add an undo button. I guess companies are happy with their internal checking and beta programmes, just because it's important to me doesn't necessarily mean it'd be important to anyone else!
I have a question please. Sometimes i add a track and the beat is off just a little. I used to push best edit and use the jog wheel to move the whole grid then it would be ok. Can i still do this ? Thank you in advance
what about the key info? will it be on the info when setting the grid on the sc life 4? i have no info about bpm and key on my trax when connected my ssd on my sc live 4.
You should have as long as you've analysed the library in Engine DJ on your desktop first and exported to SD. If not, it will only calculate those things upon first loading of a track.
How do I do this on the mix stream pro??? And can I do it w the OS 2.0? I lowkey regret buying this but as long as I can fix the beat to start on the actual start of the kick then it will be exponentially more tolerable. It’s fucking insane that it auto has the bars start at the snare imo
Now only if they made it as easy to do as on Serato: Edit beatgrid-> Press play -> Tap 'x' on, or close to, the downbeat while you listen through. Little to no pausing, or scrubbing needed.

@@digitaldjtips I literally tried everything. Shift + sync etc., etc. The only way im always used to do it is by manually moving them. Hope there a button combo for that
1) if I change the tempo and add anchors evry now and then the song would have very jumpy tempo in general and thus not reliable in the mix. 2) if I change the grid and add the anchors every now and then - the grid would be trippy and thus not reliable in the mix. Yes I did click the lock button befor exiting the grid editor on sc live 4. My conclusion: saved and active loops are the best way to enter and exit mixes with those old trippy tracks. Unfortunately I don't know how to use this grid editor. Seriously, am I the only one with this problem? Doubling and halving the tempo is a great feature and just one grid edit work fine, but I just don't see the music being stretched between the anchor points. What am I missing?
Hah OK! I get it. Music never was supposed to be stretched by grid edits, but that job would have been done with the "Leading Sync" track. It's just that I hadn't been used to using a sync button yet. Sorry, my bad ! Completely overthinking here...
Why aren’t streamed tracks already beat gridded or when someone makes a change it saves to the streaming source. Why have 1000 djs beat grid the same track when it only needs to be done w once.
RB hardware (CDJ, XDJ) is limited and inferior, and it's getting more hilarious with every new EngineOS update. Glad I left the sinking ship. I don't care about 'club standard' I care about good quality, features and pricing :)

We've not tested its built-in analysis recently. There's a chance it makes that call itself, but not sure.

Sounds like adding streaming sources is the next main thing that the Engine DJ software needs. And then Denon needs to tackle Stems.

You can't sync when the beatgrid is not correct

Beatgridding is necessary for sync to work, and sometimes, the auto beatgridding doesn't work well, hence the need to do this Phil.
Using your headphones "the old DJ way" is perfectly valid too! Some DJs like their tracks gridded so they can think about doing other things (Extra decks, effects etc), and to use auto loops effectively, rather than spending time keeping tracks on beat. It's always your choice.

I feel the engine software isn't as accurate with it's beat grid detection compared to pioneer and considering engine's delay effects rely on the beatgrid it's been a major flaw with denon's hardware. I"ve also struggled adjusting engine's beatgrid on a computer but you made those struggles disappear with this walk through. thank you again!

Yes you can do it with MP3s, and yes, it'll remember what you've done on your USB, so you can then import that back to your laptop master collection
It would be great if you can just warp the whole track with one anchor point or until the tempo in the track changes. It's kind of meticulous setting the beat grids through a whole track by hand.

As impressed as I am. I would be more impressed if you uploaded your grids and manually set keys to Denon and when you download tracks it downloads the absolute correct key and grid from the publicly provided pool every time. Bliss.
This was difficult to implement in the past due to everyone having their own files, but now everything is centralised between the big streaming players. It's 2022, AI is a merely a few years away from me asking it to build my own dj program so they need to get their crap together fast if they want market dominance.
I think AI will be beatgridding all tracks very effectively, very soon. The days of us having to do it manually are definitely numbered.

Privacy and compensation issues aside (and obvious foresight), I feel like it's a really missed opportunity if all DJ software wasn't using beatgrid, key, loop, and cue info from all those dedicated DJs over the last 15 or so years to train new AI. Maybe the Old skool DJs could share their libraries' metadata for a profit back to these big players haha

I have a question please. Sometimes i add a track and the beat is off just a little. I used to push best edit and use the jog wheel to move the whole grid then it would be ok. Can i still do this ?

You should have as long as you've analysed the library in Engine DJ on your desktop first and exported to SD. If not, it will only calculate those things upon first loading of a track.

How do I do this on the mix stream pro??? And can I do it w the OS 2.0? I lowkey regret buying this but as long as I can fix the beat to start on the actual start of the kick then it will be exponentially more tolerable. It’s fucking insane that it auto has the bars start at the snare imo

Now only if they made it as easy to do as on Serato: Edit beatgrid-> Press play -> Tap 'x' on, or close to, the downbeat while you listen through. Little to no pausing, or scrubbing needed.
Maybe it is, I don't like to do it that way (including in Serato) as I like perfection, but you could try it on Engine like this?

@@digitaldjtips I literally tried everything. Shift + sync etc., etc. The only way im always used to do it is by manually moving them. Hope there a button combo for that
1) if I change the tempo and add anchors evry now and then the song would have very jumpy tempo in general and thus not reliable in the mix. 2) if I change the grid and add the anchors every now and then - the grid would be trippy and thus not reliable in the mix. Yes I did click the lock button befor exiting the grid editor on sc live 4. My conclusion: saved and active loops are the best way to enter and exit mixes with those old trippy tracks. Unfortunately I don't know how to use this grid editor. Seriously, am I the only one with this problem? Doubling and halving the tempo is a great feature and just one grid edit work fine, but I just don't see the music being stretched between the anchor points. What am I missing?
Hah OK! I get it. Music never was supposed to be stretched by grid edits, but that job would have been done with the "Leading Sync" track. It's just that I hadn't been used to using a sync button yet. Sorry, my bad ! Completely overthinking here...

Why aren’t streamed tracks already beat gridded or when someone makes a change it saves to the streaming source. Why have 1000 djs beat grid the same track when it only needs to be done w once.
Good point, but it depends on the system you use as to how beatgrids are managed.
The only thing that’s missing is a sampler mode.
Same with all standalone gear.
Undo button missing is insane.

Rekordbox does not have this on standalone gear, ie XDJ stuff, which is what this is.
