The walkie talkies are an excellent idea.
All those public squares in Savannah are such an asset. A bit of green space makes the city more inviting and comfortable.
The trees are Live Oak Trees. They stay green all winter. They are all over the south, including over here in Texas.

I filled up yesterday at $1.70 per gallon here, near Rock Hill SC.
Funny how they got you with a 30 mile range for the radios. It's fat lie! You'll be lucky to get 1/2 to 2 miles out in the open and maybe 1/4 -1/2 miles in a dense city environment. Yes, 30 miles is possible for line of sight comditions, like if you both stand on top of a mountain, 30 miles from each other.

Good going, gas in Deer Park, TX (East side of Houston, TX) at a Citgo, was $ 1.48 this afternoon, price fluctuates about $ .10 & $ .15 in various parts of Houston area for Regular.. If your interested, ham radio doesn;t cost much more than your walkie talkies (Handi Talki or HT in Ham radio terms.). US licensed hams in "Technician Class have privileges in Canada too, although some rules vary, license costs about $ 15.00 for 10 years, Technicians can operate up to 100 watts on VHF & UHF bands in USA, most HT's cost under $ 100. for VHF radios & offer lmuch longer range than CB's or GMRS, hams gcan talk around the world on HT's and mobile radios using repeaters utilizing IRLP nodes, I've talked with hams in England on my 5 watt HT... Just in event your interested... Howard Bingham - KE5APJ

Hi Eric & Morgan - and all other RV travelers coming to or passing by Savannah [I realize you have long gone and left - but just in case you are back in the area in the future]. The Walmart near the airport in Pooler allows overnight parking. There is also a HomeDepot right next door and loads of restaurants and stores up and down that street. You ca get there by taking either exit 104 off I 95 or exit 155 off I 16. If you come off I 95 it is right next to the exit [or across from it subject to which direction you are traveling], if you are coming from I 16 it's about 6-7 miles from there towards the airport. Easy in and out, especially if you just want to overnight and not go into Savannah. Safe travels!

being a radio freak and a licensed ham radio operator since I was a kid ( 1967 n) I was doing the walkie talkie thing in our family convoys since the 70's . Worked very well in theme parks as well when you went with a bunch of people . Also pay no attention to the " 30 mile " claim . That wont happen . The 400 mhz. vhf range is " line of site " even in perfect non obstructive conditions ( water ) you won't get 30 miles out of them . What they are referring to is if they Are GMRS radios which I know they are you can buy a subscription and be allowed to use their mountain side repeaters which will relay your signal from the tower and possibly get 30 miles out of them via the repeaters , but great idea and enjoy the two way fun !

Banana muffins are yummy for the tummy!
Walkie talkies do make a nice companion on long trips in separate cars. My sweetie and I had to run separate vehicles on the way back from VA last year and it really was nice to be able to talk. Especially when you have tricky interstates to navigate.
Waffle Houses and Ihops are so great for cheap and delicious fill ups. I love the cinnamon anything.
I'm really envious of the 70 deg temp. It's getting up to 40 deg here in NH. Could be worse I suppose 10 deg is coming.
    See you next time!
    -Jon

Eric & Morgan ... these muffins looked absolutely delicious!!! My mouth is watering. The only thing that could have made them better was leaving out the chocolate chips and adding raisins. :)
Savannah is one of my favourite stops when I go down south. The history, the architecture and shopping and restaurants are all great!!! I generally get on the the trolly two day passes that allow you to get on and off so you can wander around all day.
Also ... the Pirate House Restaurant was one of my favourites ... especially if you like prime rib.
The oaks trees in Georgia are definitely different that the ones up north in Canada. Here is a brief description of them:
"The Southern Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana) is the most iconic tree of Savannah, Georgia. The evergreen Live Oaks with their drooping, curvaceous branches, draped in Spanish moss create the most atmospheric Southern quality to Savannah's streets and public squares."
