I would be so excited for an official Dark Mechanicum army. I'm trying to plan out a conversion project for a coven of tech-witches and their daemon fused tech abominations.
It would be nice. With Black Legion/CSM getting the limelight now, my personal hope is that near future we see not only the other two cult legions fleshed out but also proper non-FW Traitors given a spin, as it could include both DarkMech and Traitor Guard and various other chaos things.
I have Blackstone fortress ordered purely because I want to paint those mad max-ish traitor guard and dark mechanicus models. Everything else is a bonus and being able to use them as a kill-team is the cherry on top!
Myriad_of_Chaos its another overused phrase like “balance”. This and/or that isnt “balanced” and thats why the game is bad. Rather than figure out how to work with or around something. Its just balance issues.
I started in 7th. And it was pay to win. I went cheap units and lost a lot. When i bought the more expensive units i did better. Depends on when you started and when you stopped
To a degree. You pay to get in but that's the same as a system or game cost, regardless of what cost you shell out you are regulated by points costs of models. Arguments can be made for HQs, but they are limited by list building and slots. Additionally, superheavies which are expensive can still be downed by cheap chaos hellbrutes and simple heavy weapon teams. Simply throwing money at the game doesnt make you objectively better, it just gives more options for your list
I'm with you, I think the Servants of the Abyss being their own Kill Team faction is pretty damn cool, especially since they have such a large number of options that are unique even amongst Chaos. My current kill team for them is 2 Black Legionnaires (Leader and Sniper), Chaos Beastman (Zealot), 2 Negavolt Cultists, Rogue Psyker (Comms), and 6 Traitor Guardsman. A nice mix of everything :-)
Those beastmen though for KT...Savage charge plus a Zealot specialist is some serious hurt for only 7/9 points is savage. Looking forward to seeing lists people build though.

A buddy of mine uses this big super cool AoS Demon as a proxy for his death guards demon prince when we play a pick up game. For pick ups i don’t mind the idea you threw up. For a competitive setting I would prefer to see the actual figure and corresponding stats.

Got Taddeus and Pious Vorne off eBay, as the whole Blackstone Fortress package didn't really interest me. Nice way to build a Ministorum-themed IG Kill Team. Yay secondary market!
I was more interested in subbing them in for standard units(like the Ranger for the Eldar and Kroot for a Tau Fire Warrior, Traitorguard for standard IG etc.), but the additional rules for specific models seems nice too.(Also, the Traitorguard appear to have an even more diverse set of weapons compared to standard IG)
Possibly, but it just boils down to lasgun, auto pistol/las pistol and CC Weapon, and flamer. I dunno what a traditional guard squad gets, but I feel it may be more than that?
@@Rune3100 ah ok, yeah looking at it now, it is less weapons,.I thought they had a shotgun too, but was mistaken. A number of models appear to have laspistols(where I believe that tends to be sergeant only for the guard) and that cudgel/mace/beatstick looking thing
UR-025 is a beast (and maybe a little broken), it'll be interesting to see how the final rules turn out. I'd love to see BSF minis sold individually or at least sold in box sets like previously released Kill Teams but I doubt GW would do that. Whatever happens, the minis are awesome and I'm really tempted to get them.
Mallex is almost certain to get sold in a clampack eventually, he's already on his own seperate sprue to everyone else. Not so sure about the others, they'd need to be put on new sprues.
I'm a WHQ (original version) junkie and spotted this at my FLGS earlier in the week. With all those models it's such a steal, even if you never played the actual game.

I wondered if there would be crossover between Kill Team and Blackstone Fortress. It makes me wonder if there will be other factions that could be 'imported' from Kill Team for different Blackstone Fortress scenarios. Maybe an Eldar list could attempt to recover rumored Old One tech, with that being one of the BSF theories of construction/creation.
I play Both Cursed city and Black stone fortress but also use the figures for TTRPG games I flip the other direction I been using a lot of chaos cultist and kill team figures for TTRPG stuff
To be fair you can run loads of specialists if you have the Rogue Trader box. I don't mind if someone uses any of it in games and I like to go to events and for events it's like any tournaments really it's not pay to win but they can give a nice edge. I've wiped the flood with a team from the Rogue Trader box and seen it done on other games too with standard kill teams it's all just how you play using terrain cards and knowledge. It's good that they put the it's down to the organizer so all good to me :)
Honestly I just want kill team rules for the new Haarken Worldclaimer. Probably too OP of a character for kill team since he duels with a chapter master but still, a man can hope for a Christmas miracle
Man I tell you the ability to add the Imperial Robot to Kill Team is seriously tempting me away from a Chaos Marine team over to the AdMech side. I'll need to figure out how to make some big beefy techno-barbarian Skitarii though...
Not sure if it'd be practical for your entire team, but the Darkoath Chieftain and Darkoath Warqueen from the Age of Sigmar range have the barbarian look down. I think with the right conversion one of them would make a great leader.
Considering Heretic Astartes seemed the most in need of some love from the developers, I can understand why its a little disappointing for CSM players that only the good guys can be used to supplement pre-existing factions...
Great review! Thank you Uncle Adam!! On the the pay to win argument some folks out there are complaining about ... simply ... it is silly, ALL OF GW IS PAY TO WIN and it always has been. These days though you can just go on ebay and buy the single figure you want on most any given day. It isn't like they were limited ed, get them at a convention only, etc. If someone is too poor to buy the box, go in with someone, buy it and sell the stuff you dont want want on ebay. This is really a very good thing to see GW doing, something that is rare for them, to allow models to be used in more than one game (ya ya ... Daemons have traditionally been 40K and AoS/WHFB, etc. but generally its rare).
I don't quite understand kill team, how are they telling you you can't use the models in a normal kill team? Surely just cause they named a kill team faction after them doesn't mean you cant use them in another ? Or has the hobby totally changed since i departed

Not sure if that's what they're called, those ghoul looking things, I only ask because I've heard the data slates allow the ghouls to be played in dark eldar armies not chaos in 40k, and I think the spindles can be used by anyone?
Ur-Ghuls were already a model for Drukhari (dark eldar) before blackstone came out - they live in Commorrah, the dark eldar capital and aren't daemons or related to any chaos faction. They don't really fit the theme of kill team (being uncontrolled predators, essentially) so i'm guessing that's one reason why they aren't included. Nobody can use the spindle drones in 40k or kill team as they are part of the blackstone fortress' defences and it wouldn't make any sense for them to be used elsewhere.

Before Warhammer Quest “Blackstone Fortress” a few years ago came Warhammer Quest “Silver Tower” And Shadows over Hammerhall. Both of these systems are not only Great but are interchangeable to each other. The Minis (Most of them) can be used in Age Of Sigmar as well, and that includes Skirmish! These miniatures definitely were NOT “pay to win” from these game boxed systems, all the models are available separately with downloadable War Scrolls to use in AoS. I thought about getting into Kill Team, and if I did, would only play casually. Also may get Blackstone Fortress at a later time, as I hear it’s a good game in of itself, even if a lot more unforgiving than Silver Tower (although you can make Silver Tower way more challenging). I don’t like the whole PTW concept from any company! Video Games have enough of that crap going on already - Disheartened to hear it’s going on a little bit with Blackstone Fortress/Kill Team and in Kill Team in general with those additional packs.
Tom D I dont see it being pay to win. I see it as GW giving the max value for your purchase. You now have essentially 3 uses for this game. Blackstone Fortress, kill team and regular 40k. I really dont see the problem. GW cant win for loosing. If they didnt do this then ppl would complain that other than the board game what else would i do with it? Stop complaining and play the games.
I disagree it is pay to win really. he rules are there, you can easily proxy the models and those characters which are specialists have a points cost which reflects that. As for the factions, you don't have to do a complete Servants Of The Abyss team, they all have the Chaos keyword, which means I can throw them into my Deathguard or Thousand Sons teams. (I will lose the faction specific tactics, but that many be worth it.) I picked up the Rogue Psyker and Negavolts cheap from ebay, so you need not even buy Blackstone Fortress, or proxy minis.

The thing with GW is that you can just download all the cards that they try to make you pay for. I mean I love GW games and models but I'm not shelling out for a box of tactics cards. I am unfamiliar with Kill Team but I play Necromunda and this is the way to do it. Buy models if you like them but a wad of cash for a box of tactics cards is a joke.
I spent the money I could have used to buy Blackstone Fortress with to instead buy two full armies for Star Wars Legion on Black Friday. In retrospect this is still an amazingly good decision on my part.
luckily i just play with my brother and 2 friends and play casually, we all play shadow war and continue to do so (like twice a month type thing), that fact that shadow war armageddon lasted an entire 6 months makes me refuse to invest into kill team, since who knows its life let alone now this blackfortress thing

@@12neef 7th was pretty fucked though, especially at the end with all of the formations. If you didnt run formations you lost. Simple as that.

to be fair, would be pretty weird if spindle drones, which are a part of the physical blackstone fortress, were having skirmishes on random planets
necrons or admech could adopt the design and it would fit right in and the dark eldar could use the ur-gul. GW could handwave and itd be alright.

@@popburnsy3207 yeah, those are labeled under the umbrella term of "brutal close combat weapon," which acts exactly as a chainsword in the rules
They also have a grenadier guy who seems to exclusively throw grenades at very long ranges. (At least in the base game).

Randal if the previous warhammer quest Silver Tower is any indication, they will eventually release at least some of the models individually.

In the box there's a booklet with all the stats for normal 40k games.

I spent the money I could have used to buy Blackstone Fortress with to instead buy two full armies for Star Wars Legion on Black Friday. In retrospect this is still an amazingly good decision on my part.
luckily i just play with my brother and 2 friends and play casually, we all play shadow war and continue to do so (like twice a month type thing), that fact that shadow war armageddon lasted an entire 6 months makes me refuse to invest into kill team, since who knows its life let alone now this blackfortress thing
Also, there is absolutely no customization for the models. They are all set.
