This Stihl 026 Chainsaw Lives Again!

- Cleaning up my Stihl 026 chainsaw. This saw sat for who knows how many years, and now it lives to cut another day!

I just got through restoring a crash damaged 026 and bringing it up to 026 Pro specs. It is one of my favorite saws, light and easy to start. It has a bunch of ms 260 parts on it. The one upgrade I really like is the adjustable oil pump. No longer does it dump a bunch of oil underneath when it is running. It also oils adequately. The adjustable, climatically controlled carb makes starting it a snap. Three pulls and it is running. .
Nice video. I have a STIHL 026. I bought it in 1995. Was looking at video on how to repair and found your video. STIHL recommends 50:1 fuel oil mix.

This is the first video I've seen someone take apart a 026 with a half inch drive. But it's still a good video.
Good saws, I have built many, I have found it's easier for me just to tear them all the way down, thoroughly clean and rebuild.

It's a solid saw! Very reliable and useful.
Nice job...Fun Fact: it's not white, it's grey. Rustoleum has a line of tractor paint that is gas and oil resistant and has a really durable finish. The "Light Ford Grey" is almost indistinguishable from "Stihl Grey." I've used it dozens of times with perfect results as long as you follow the directions on the can.

You can use a torch or good heat gun to get those plastics looking good again!

The case itself looks a bit different, gas tank , air filter, cover for the air filter seems different aswell...
Maybe that's why when ordering parts, some parts are specific to 026 and 026AV...

Looks great, did you find it at a junk yard or you bought it? I take a load or two to the scrap yard every week and often find neglected chainsaws there. So far I’ve bought 6 from them spent less then 100 bucks all together and 3 of them run like brand new and one 2 I’m rebuilding and the other one is for parts. Anyways thanks for the upload
It was actually an old one I inherited from my grandfather. That's a great deal you got on those saws! It's incredible what people will throw away because they think it's worthless! Thank you for watching.

Thanks! I've heard a few different things. Heat, acetone, sanding and polishing, etc. I'm a little nervous to try some of them haha. Might do some testing on something I don't care about.
@@thejunkyardnecromancer Hello Again. I did find a method and it was a success. Just rebuilt a Toro Snow Thrower (CCR 2000--- I’m a huge fan of the Suzuki two stroke) Anyway, after the rebuild, took my heat gun and warmed up the plastic housing. At the point of remelt, the original color comes back and you’re done. Looks great. It sounds unorthodox but it works.
And no, I wouldn’t want to use a torch either. lol Take care.

Ace Hardwear Biscuit Epoxy spray is a close match to the original Stihl color. The one problem that I have not solved is a spacer to cover the opening around the chain break. I sanded my orange engine cover with 600 and 800 grit wet or dry and then coated it with clear, gloss lacquer. I painted the bar with biscuit epoxy, too. It looks nice.
Do you think sanding and clear coating my plastics would make them look better too?

Chain is a little bit tight. Did you oil the air filter. Sharpen that chain or buy a new one. I acquired an 026 that had been abused in 1995. After a little love it's sthil going 25 years later. Stihl 026 one of the best saws ever made. Nice job.
