First of all, Gary Hurst, inventor of the Tone Bender had this to say:
“I would like to say once and for all; I have no connection with this company (British Pedal Company) whatsoever, even though my name is unlawfully all over the text headings to their pedals; Fuzz King, Doubler, Tone Bender etc. They have copied not only the names but also the graphic work on all these pedals. I was, as you all probably know, the designer of the Tone Bender the production of which was done by me for a time and then taken over by Sola/ColorSound"..."I have been severally damaged by some earlier connection with these BPC guys when I supplied my Tone Bender Reissue to another of their companies some years ago. Then they carried on by copying this and other pedals associated with me, always using my name in the headings, and probably falsely signing certificates as well. This has given way to people thinking I am associated with them. This is in way true and I apologize if anyone has purchased from them thinking the product had something to do with me".

I'm confused. This seem to be blatant violations of intellectual property laws. Telling the customer base to 'deal with it' themselves is... just sad. I've loved everything about Andertons since i first heard of you from the beginnings of the Rob and Lee videos, so this sorta catches me like a smack to the face. I know the whole guitar industry is incestuous and it's a copycat world, but most companies are working within a blurry set of rules. This just smashes them. What am i missing? This feels just shameful.

Not to mention the "controversy" around bpc and their owners Music Ground. MG sold stolen guitars and rebranded/fake amps, and bpc is very much the same deal, fake/rebranded transistors and stolen names. Even if there's some legal loophole the ethics are obviously out the window.

@@triplestaff thanks for the background intel. I was unaware of the company until this video. That's pretty bad. Yeah, ethics have to start from the top and work their way down. A retailer should not just pass the buck and say it's the consumer's job to 'interpret' or dismiss ethical issues. Obviously, there are gray areas. This seems so completely far outside of the gray, though. This would be like Andertons selling the LyRock or 68Pedals King of Clone, but the version with the actual Analogman branding on it.

Something I'd like to add to the conversation. The company is very dishonest about the transistors they use in their pedals. I have one of their 1.5 tone benders and the "OC75" transistors don't look anything like any of the OC75s I've ever seen. I tried researching the manufacture and products codes stamped on them and couldn't find anything. I'm almost 100% sure they are generic pnp germanium transistors that they stamped with fake codes.

Man… As soon as Lee opened up that first pedal at 4:17, I knew something was up. Even with a modest knowledge of audio components, I can look at that and tell you something fishy’s going on. That switch is garbage, the wiring is thin and messy, and the jacks are the kind you can buy in lots of 10 for $2.
You guys have had a whole lot more experience with handwired, high quality gear than I have by miles. Did nobody say anything, or catch those tells? These pedals, as far as I can see, are cheaply built, basic circuits that are blatantly using names to misrepresent what’s actually inside them. Maybe I’m missing something, but judging by the rest of the comments, I don’t think I’m that far off.

Let's be real here, even though BPC might have some sketchy practices, they're bringing some serious competition and affordability to the ToneBender game. Personally, I'm way more pissed about the ridiculous prices some of these pedals are going for than any supposed copyright infringement. At the end of the day, it's not like it's hurting me or hurting Macari's demand.

On to the discussion around 14:30 . I was recently at gig, where the players told the sound guy, what they think about him and blasted their 100watt Plexis flat out thru 4x12s. Holy mother, thats veeery different experience of gig. The physicall feeling of air moved by 4x12s pushed by flat out gunned valve amps is something to behold.

They have an absolutely stunning dumble clone just in the right corner and they never touch it! Absolutely agree though, more vintage Marshall tones would be lovely, the Victory stuff is an excellent platform but it’s completely devoid of character in my opinion (owned and sold a few victory’s all for the same reason).

@@NevermoreAudio victorys are a overall great amp but "master of none" they are solid "good" amps but compared to the major 3 in the 1980s (vox, Marshall, fender) they all brought their own very distinct flavor to the table. While victorys are overall awesome amps, it doesn't have that "thing" certain old time amps have!

"... the olden days" Is that a mix of old and golden? Idk but you said it "all matters' so- I wrote Pete's name on the waist band of my underwear- (me nickers, for all you Brits). I think it's helping.... Imo the Bender is the style of fuzz for ppl who really like fuzz- not fuzzy overdrive. Personally- I like fuzzy overdrive like a Fuzz Face or a Big Muff. The Bender is too fuzz-like for me- too gated, overly biased at times, just not my thing.

Gotta be honest; these are the worst excuses for a MKII, 1.5, Buzzaround and Zonk I've heard in all my days; what a load of sh*t! How dodgy the company is aside; these pedals sound f*cking crap, nothing like the "real deal" or even most "clones" for substantially less outlay; crap.

I thought they sounded great to be honest but abit over priced but a fuzz that would appeal to me and my old school style .we have to remember there was no TH-cam and much equipment about back in the day .that sound was new and very inventive to have .also the studios added to the sounds to all valve and real tape .On the negative side I’m shocked my what im reading to .and hear about music ground to being crooks and thieves thats documented ,Why do they have to infringe on copy rights they could have had a different brand name like colour bender or Banana Bender even Birmingham bender .Think they are having a laugh bender though .price them at £130 .They no sound great though .back ground is dodgy .

For what it’s worth, I have a Caitlinbread Naga Viper treble booster before my fuzz (EH Big Muff), and the addition was life changing. I was finally able to get the tone in my head out of my speakers. Soaring Gilmour solo tones. Pure magic.
