Amazing work, Vince. I very much doubt I could have soldered those tiny wires, that thing would probably have ended up in the bin! Fantastic perseverance! All the very best for 2024! 🎉
i just came from Steve's mini-console video to this video, seeing both of my fav youtubers loving each other in the comments section. Oh the spirit of christmas lives on. Happy new years to both of yous!
I would have bet good money you would have gone zero for three when you put "Apple watches" and "repair" in the same sentence. Thank you for proving me wrong! Happy New Year!
Hi Vince, you are a prime example that training makes a master. You are getting better and better each time you fix something. I wish you and your family all the best for 2024.
Just an unsolicited thought. Wrap the exposed edges of your sharp spudger with some electrical tape or at least a couple layers of masking tape. You may also consider stiffening it up by taping it to you stiff spudger leaving 8mm or so exposed to penetrate and pry with. I acknowledge you got it without these thoughts but surely taping up the edges rather than slicing one's fingertips would be preferable. Keep up the great work and being an inspiration.
It’s been a while since I watched your repairs - I didn’t stop liking them, I guess I just ‘had my fill’ after seeing you do so many. I was curious when I saw that you’d attempted to repair an apple watch though, so I decided to have a look, and wow… Amazing work Vince! You made it look so easy, I’m super impressed! Never would have thought a repair like that would even be possible, it gave me a big smile when I saw you actually using the watch after. It’s also nice to see that your commentary is as pleasant to listen to as it always was. Thanks for continuing to share your repairs with us!
im very impressed how you didnt damage these extremely fragile OLED displays and managed to do that digitizer solder job without breaking the screen and it actually working. well done mate
Meatloaf "2 out of 3 ain't bad" Great fix and even better micro soldering, the dedication and patience you have shown has put you on another level, hope you had a good Christmas and wishing you and your family a happy New year 🎊
Your skill at dealing with all these stupid glues and tapes without breaking anything is getting really impressive! I wonder if applying low melt to each pin then low temperature hot air (warm air? 🤔) would be enough to remove those connectors or if they would melt first?
Thanks Jessica, maybe it would have worked. Annoyingly there was also a ground solder point under both the left and right hand side near the front of the connector that the soldering iron couldn't reach, so even with low melt on the other accessible solder points I think it would have still struggled to come off.
That's awesome! I know that those trace wires are tiny and you struggle, but to me you make it look easier than it actually is. 2/3 isn't bad! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season!
Yes - soldermasking fine wires or tiny legs so close to each other is the only way - it stops bridges and prevents the previous solder parts becoming unsoldered - but wow - that was fine wire
Hi Vince. Nice work. A tip for you - I wind some masking tape around my finger, and / or or stick a layer or two on my palm to stop damage from edged on opening tools etc.
Some people just like to criticize. I'm amazed you even tried to solder those tiny, tiny wires, much less succeeded! Even putting on a new connector would have been very difficult, but you did the even more difficult soldering!
I love that fix it mentality at the end. If it's broken. Give it a shot. The only things that will happen is either you fix it and learn something or you don't fix it and maybe learn something. Even if you completely and royally mess up something like I have done in the past. You gain experience. I ripped traces the first time I tried to remove a USB port. The second time I removed a USB port. It worked beautifully. The third time I had different tools and I ripped a trace. But I persevered and was able to repair that trace. Basically, if it's broken and you like fixing stuff where you watch these TH-camrs. Try to fix it. The worst you can do is not fix it
Love the work on this, what a great result, you can get covers in colours & glass protector for the watch that protect it from scratches & make it look new, they only cost a few quid. Amazing inspiration!! Thanks for posting
I have the original model of Apple Watch. I have been using it daily for almost exactly five years (within five days from that mark) and just yesterday, the screen popped off. I had seen some stuff about that happening to older models, so I wasn't really surprised. I took off the screen and removed the battery last night, and the battery was very puffy. I covered it in clear tape with most of the parts removed and I think it looks cooler now. Unfortunately, it can no longer track my activity. I would like to repair it soon, but I'm really not sure if I will since it is a really old model. Also, I have heard about the newer models of Apple Watches having so many different problems (as your video shows), that I don't want to upgrade to a new Apple Watch. I don't think I would like it as much.
Awesome Job Vince!👍 Great respect!👏👏👏 I've soldered small stuff before but perhaps not as small as that! I think I would have just replaced the screen but you did a great job! Have a great new year!🎉🎉🎉
I would love to see more apple watch repairs. I would not have had the fine motor skills to fix each individual wire. Getting a new screen would be easier. Super effort mate! Happy New Year!
Oooh the moonswatch I quite fancy one of those one day. I wonder if I can get a broken one for cheap to try and repair LOL great repair vid Vince and happy new year 🎉
Bravo! 2023 was the year I discovered your channel, and I've found it inspirational and enjoyable - I like to watch your fixes while I'm doing some tinkering of my own 😊 Happy New Year to you, your family and your fine community of viewers - onwards to more honest fixes in 2024!
I can't even solder a 2mm wire, so no comments on your soldering off my side! Good job done, not many people are able to fix an Apple watch. And happy new year to you and your family too!
The great thing about a metal prying tool is that you can sharpen it with a bit of a sandpaper and make its edge however thin you need while preserving the overall hardness of the tool.
You Sir are and absolute GOD of Repairs, you certainly inspired me to start my own channel , as i used to fix things before youtube even existed!! Thanks for that and happy new year!
Very well done Vince- there’s no way I’d attempt soldering those. I had some success repairing my old series one after I ripped the sacredness sensor - that I’d not seen as I pryed the screen up, replacing the battery. They are fiddly little yokes! Happy new 2024- I’ve only found your channel about 8 months but I’m a fan of you varied work and exploits.
for heating watches, use one of those microwave 'hot water bottles', leave it sitting on top of the watch for a few minutes then attempt to lift the screen
You should invest in an anti glare light, Northridge fix has one that he sells. He used it on a CPU and the soldering was crystal clear and easy to see what he was doing
Absolutely great work. It’s one of those devices I thought would be too small to work on but it does prove you can do it. From a gargantuan Rolls Royce to an almost smallest repair ever. It’s like Everest meats an ant. Happy New Year Vince.. All the best from Alex for 2024
I feel you man, my 6.5 inch wrists don't allow me to wear anything bigger than 40mm, 38mm seiko 5s are my favourite. Really like the rado captain cook white one, I'll get it one day inshallah
when replacing the screen (glass part ) with the OCA glue you put the glue in the center of the screen and place the new glass on top and it pushs the air out with just the weight of the new glass , you dont need a special machine to them , most of the time a machine is only need when seperating the glass from the screen but have seen people change them without the maching but is a bit of a pain and time consuming.
Vince.....I've been hearing your comments about the watch screen has scratches...Many watch TH-camrs out there...me included use a product called Poly watch..it's a light abrasive that removes scratches on plastic or glass bezel covers on watches.....good luck.👍👍👍
'Apple' and 'repairability' are two words on the very opposites of the spectrum. I admire your courage in attempting this and I'm even more impressed with the succesful results! Have a great New Year!
I love how people always bring up Apple as if easy microsoldering existed and Apple took it away from us. Good luck with your "any other brand" repairable wrist computer, the one with a red button marked "REPAIR".
Hey Vince, heads up. Apple Pay will not work unless you transfer the NFC coils from the displays, it’s not very well documented. Infact, if you could do a whole video of swapping out these coils I reckon it would do really well as there’s no videos out for the S6 watches. Well done on getting it all working!
ignore the people who never solder and tell you you cant solder. been telling you from the start its within your ability to solder this stuff, its just a matter of patience and practice. And you have more patience than i do, so by extention you have the ability to be better than i am at soldering. "yes i could solder that watch" No i wouldnt do it because its not worth my sanity.
Excellent fixes Vince well done, that soldering was an eye opener well done for taking them on and the work you did Happy new year to you and all of your family all the best 😊
Hey Vince im really impressed by your patience and flawless work. Really enyojable videos! I was thinking what if you lower temperature on your soldering iron and use low melting solder for those wires? Maybe in that case you wouldnt burn them? And there is no high current that would heat up low melting solder.
Very nice repairs, interesting to see what's inside these things. It's very inspiring to watch these videos indeed, for example about month ago I decided to try if my 1989 Citizen wrist watch still works, bought a battery for it and noticed the little contact spring between the electronics and the piezo speaker is missing, so made a tiny conductive part from metal staple, and the beep sounds started working :) Digital clock works, but the analogue watch started working after couple of days, stayed in sync with the digital clock about 1,5 weeks, and then started falling behind. I'm guessing mechanically it's ok condition, but perhaps lubrication has become a bit sticky in 34 years :P
Well done Vince good job. Wishes you a happy new year to you and all your family i have been watching all your videos from the start you have grown a lot over the years in fixing things. I live in Australia 🇦🇺 God bless you
That 0.1mm tool you brought, I also brought before and I don’t even know why I brought it 😂, like you said “it’s like paper” couldn’t of put it better myself 🤣🤣
Amazing for a first attempt - 2 for 2 repair. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! I am not entirely sure but I think you can get replacement... like original square shaped adhesive for those. Not sure if they only come with complete screen replacements tho. And if I remember correctly that Optically Clear Adhesive stuff is UV activated, not much worry about getting bubbles.
solder mask tip... you don't have to wait for 30 min... just use a uv lamp for 30 seconds then hit it with heat from your heat gun.. then 30 seconds uv lamp again if needed. This usually gets solder mask hard enough to keep moving on.
Spoiler Saver
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Can I have a apple watch pls
I watch since you tiny channel
series 6 has a swim mode i used to go swimming at gym it has lap timer built in
i watched u since when u used to be a little channel

U both need to do a series together

Hi Vince, you are a prime example that training makes a master. You are getting better and better each time you fix something. I wish you and your family all the best for 2024.
I repaired a lot of iPads and iPhones in the past but I stopped years ago. This kind of videos make me enthusiastic again
Arguably your most impressive repair Vince! Miniaturization magic! Top job.
Just an unsolicited thought. Wrap the exposed edges of your sharp spudger with some electrical tape or at least a couple layers of masking tape. Deep respect for getting those wires soldered.💪🏻 I would have trashed this thing 🤣
It was so nice and a pleasure meeting you! Thanks so much for everything ☺️
Likewise Hayley!!!!!

Wow, Vince! Well done! Soldering those tiny wires and using the solder mask was brilliant. Happy New Year!
Not sure if its the same brush but you can drop IPA down the tube when need to do what you did with the battery.... my brush allows for that
I have a series 6, and if it ever stops working or if I need to change the battery one day, this video will be incredibly helpful. Thanks Vince!
My best repair this year was saving my dishwasher....you inspired me to take a punt....thanks Vince 👍👍👍

@@Mymatevince I think it is done by using a heat pad under a screen to 120 C and then gently with a heat gun you remove this connector
It's impressive that you're able to do so much work on those tiny things! Impressive dexterity
Thank you 👍
I used to do iPhone screen refurbing and you do need quite a lot of gear and it’s expensive. That being said it’s so satisfying to do.
That's awesome! I know that those trace wires are tiny and you struggle, but to me you make it look easier than it actually is. 2/3 isn't bad! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season!

wow that was nice fixes when it comes to apple products, no lockouts like with the new iphones. happy new year
good work that man. HOw interesting about solder mask, never ever heard of it before
The connector is for the ApplePay NFC. I was wondering if Applepay works on that Apple Watch with the soldering that you have done?

Fantastic work! Does Pateron have any raw footage of the fixes or extended videos? Happy New Year!
great video vince i have been super busy at work so not had time to watch lately
