Great video! Very informative. Can I add that all the bolts supporting the door are spline heads. I used a Torx bit on my van before viewing your video and rounded the head of the bolt. Thankfully after viewing your video I used the mole grips to loosen the rounded bolt.
Hi, thanks for video. I have replaced as per your instructions but unfortunately my door has locked in the open position. Any tips to close it and prevent it from jamming open? Thanks
Really helpful video. Our top runner came out and wondered if a worn bottom gear may be the cause if the door drops slightly? Do you have a link for the part please?
Thanks for that! Had my bus from new in ‘04 and the bottom bearing just failed. Can’t complain after 16 years I guess!! 😂 I did wonder about the hook and the spring. Ah well.... time to try and undo those bolts......
Great stuff, glad your fixed it, no im bad at keeping old bits as well for some reason.. 16 years isn't bad at all, I have had new vivaro doors fall of after a few months before
Nice video fella I have been searching for a video like this and none of the others mentioned the spring loaded hook/latch thing. After reading comments on other videos I’m concerned that it can keep the sliding door locked in the open position. Am tempted to do the same as you but I’m still a bit concerned that it may end up catching by chance one day. I know it’s only been a little while but has yours stayed out the way?
Hi, so it hasn't catched or had any problems at all, I have had a quick look on the T5 and I can't see anywhere the latch would hook onto anything, plus the spring if fitted would be what holds the hook in operation I would have thought. So if the spring isn't there the hook would not hold in place anyway..
A Torx bit is this (You will need the correct size) images.app.goo.gl/urC1M6bCGA4aPQTb9 This is a Spline bit again you will need the correct size both are stated in the video images.app.goo.gl/auPdk8pvi8YddwgC7
@@scoellphotography Thanks for the quick reply. Mine is definitely not a Torx bolt. It's called Triple Square 8mm (spline). If I put a Torx bit in it I might round it.
@@petercohen3966 Yeah mine was the same it says in the video a few should be Torx and a few should be spline, depends of yours or mine has been replaced before I suppose or what VW put in
The part is not the same as the original, it catches when going into the channel from the open position. Will let you know if we can figure a way around it.
@@GDUBMX one important thing that is not shown in the video is that in order to be able to get the roller into the track at the back end of the track there is a access point that has a couple screws that have to be removed so that you can get the roller into the track correctly and then line everything up. without that it is impossible to get it into the track correctly.
Nice video but you talk and talk and... when you remove the door hatch part... you don't even show... At least everything is pretty straight forward otherwise... Eitherway - THANK YOU. Your video helped!
Not an easy job on most T5s and mine was no exception. The bolt on the inside would not budge ans the two holding the door pull cable cannot be accesses easy if they round off. Really poor bolts that should be replaced with normal type if you manage to get them out.
Thanks! For others, Replacement procedure starts at 2:22.

Thanks so much for this - worked perfectly. On mine all four bolts appeared to be an M8 spline.

Hi the spring loaded latch is very important, my door would otherwise always close when I am parking on a hill

All done. Thank you. Btw... is it just me that keeps the broken original parts?? 😳😳😳

Cheers for your reply
I’m about to go fit the new roller
Thanks again
The spring and latch, with the hook on is for attaching to the cable that operates the power latch on Caravelles and California's
If you don't have the power lock, you could just angle grind the hook off to save any problems
Huge help, thanks!
No worries glad it helped
Thanks! Simple fix 😄
Where's the link to the bracket you used please
Hi sorry for the late reply, I will put one in the description
What is a torax bit? Mine looks like a triple square.
