- In today's video, we go in depth on my friend Michael (from the Volvo V70 Video) and his brand new purchase, a 1984 time capsule from Malaise era America, for just $1,500. Despite all the jokes we make, it's a totally different experience from modern cars. Modern luxury cars should take note. Enjoy!

late 70's to early 90's box style with earthy tones. hell yeah. i've been driving a 1989 Dodge Shelby Dakota for almost a year and i love it. no fancy screens, no powered anything, burgundy interior. the best.
Body, i just subscribe now … congratulation for your job!!
Its hard To find someone (in your age) who talks about this kind of car and automotive history!
Congratulations again!
Back in 1987, I T-boned one of those Buick Rivieras hitting its front passenger front fender. Its owner blew through a stop sign . I was 17 years old driving my 1st car a 1976 an AMC Gremlin. The Riviera was totaled. My Gremlins plastic front headlight surround was cracked and it's front 5mph bumper got pushed in. I originally bought my Gremlin for $300 in 1986. The insurance adjuster handed me $300 in cash after he looked at my Gremlin. I kicked my Grelin's front back into position and kept on driving it through college for few years .
Great video, guys! Elder millennial here and I love these cars. I've had one Riviera and three Toronados for from the 79 to 85 generation. This one appears to be a 79 or 80 though. The 3 speed was only available 79 to 81. Either way, you've got a fun old car to cruise around in, love it!
My grandma had this car in her basement in the mid 80s, red with a white top. Even then it seemed old fashioned but slick at the same time.
My mom had a brand new 85 Riviera and I loved that car, I was 22 at the time and she wouldnt let me near it but she let my girlfriend drive it she was a lead foot and loved its big chrome gas pedal she figured out if you stopped on a slight hill in the ran you could do great burnouts and she loved the sound when the 4 barrel opened up!!!
I still own and drive a 81 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan , i love driving the Olds i grew with these land barges it's a totally different experience compared to today's crossovers. 😊
Well, there are definitely more “square “ cars from that era. Oldsmobile 88,98, Chrysler Fifth Ave, and Cadillacs are some examples
Love these old cars. ❤😊
I wouldn't mind the competition between this car and your Freelander 😂
I am glad to see praise for these cars especially from someone my age, the fuel crisis killed American cars and it sucks man.
Despite these two people who weren't even born yet, keep talking about the 70s (on an 84 car) and "fuel crisis"... the fuel crisis was 1973... not 1984... the 1984 Riviera doesn't have anything to do with the 1973 fuel crisis.
Very cool car 👌👌👍
TOPHER!!!!!!!!!!
I used 2 own a 1983 riv white no vynal Valor blue interior 1 owner back in 1998 wen I was 30 northern calif 🇺🇲
Owned a gorgeous blue 83. Drive it across the country, you will find out why it is better than any Japanese cars of the day.
Are you sure this is an 84???? Maybe the grille was changed???
Dodging a deer in the Rivera vs dodging a deer in my 02 WRX
Oldsmobile 307 V8 start. Sounds exactly like a 1987 Cadillac Brougham d'Elegance I once owned. Slow off the line
Wheele arches
Um acshylly Michel said it’s a 5.7 now so it has 160hp durr @thopeher porker cors
I love Buick, in fact I drive a Buick right now, I think this is a bit to old tbh. It is to underpowered and it is heavy so that low power is noticeable. I think the 38000 Series II and even 3800 series III cars. Also it is a coupe and just to big to justify that. The only benefit to a coupe is better aero for better performance and or fuel economy, but this has neither of those things. The 1996 Park Avenue is a better car then the Camry from that year and I will not take that back
I have one
Riviera ain't no land yatch
If you think this buick is a land yacht, then you have no idea of what land yacht is from the 70s. This car was consideredca mid size luxury car back in the day. True luxury car, nice big comfortable seats.. EPA, emission standards killed power of ALL ENGINES. do your home work boys.
99 cents a gallon
Nice car....definitely not an '84 though....looks like a 1980.
The Riviera was not a ‘regular car bopping around’. This was an expensive top personal luxury car for an upper middle class household. It’s a shame what the emissions controls did to the power on those cars. Interesting video!
But, do you think it’s SQUARE?!? 🟫🟩🟥🟦🟧🟪🟨⬜️
