Excellent yes I share your views on this tent and agree the only two negatives I have is the loops flapping in the wind and the import tax! I must try out what you do with your walking poles. 😊
The best review possible happens when your viewers see you using the same tent over and over and over through different trips and under different conditions. People can "review" gear and talk about gear, but that's not as powerful as seeing someone use the same thing reliably and consistently. Two TH-camrs I find watching quite a bit lately (you being one, the other being Erik Normark) use tarptent tents. That's a powerful recommendation as I shift for my current setup (family tents great for overnights but too heavy for multiple nights) to something better for longer trips with my teenager daughter.
Great that you pick up this topic. It's more to the core like those videos "whats in my photoback 2019". From this kind of video you find plenty on youtube. But videos about additional equipment are rare. So thank you!
A great tent. I also have a Scarp 1 and like you I love it. Agree with all your positives, but would say I've been thankful I've had the extra poles on a few occasions ... I really think they make it much more stable in high winds. The big challenge is deciding when to bring them and when to save the weight... a kind of mountain Russian roulette :-)
Good stuff mate and a tent I had tried in the past. As you say good weight and easy to pitch and take down. Only thing I wasnt keen on was that due to the light colour of the fabric it was very light inside for sleeping more so during the summer. Great idea on the short info films. Atb

Hi Murray, on the back of watching your wonderful videos ive just taken delivery of the 22 upraged Scarpe 1 and boy is it a beauty. Its everything you described it as and more. Had loads of tents including the Soulo, this is the best by far.
Personally Hilleberg Akto in the winter & my terra nova Zephyros 1 in warmer months. Both pretty similar in terms of shape but love them both. Would love the Hilleberg Soulo as more roomy but too much cash to part with. Great vid, Murray
I also have a scarp 1 and also think it's great. We actually use it as a 2 person tent! My partner and I are small ish (174 and 158 cm tall) and it fits us and all our gear (just about) - absolutely incredible for something so well designed and lightweight.
@Anton Chigurh I think 2 full size mats would overlap at the bottom, but not completely. It's still definitely a tent for those who are happy being intimate if you plan to share it. But as I say for myself and my partner it's perfect for wild camping.
@Anton Chigurh I'm sure you could make it work. If you download the floor plan from the website you can use inkscape to scale things and you can see how it would look for yourself.
Hi, I also have a Scarp1 (Also a Nordisk Telemark 2 which I use for summer use and long extended backpacking trips, it being much lighter at 950g, but not as solid in windy conditions as the Scarp1, also the packed size is about half of the Scarp1) I bought mine around 8 years ago after seeing many on the TGO challenge. Even with import duties etc. it's still very good value compared to other more expensive tents with similar specs. (Terra Nova Competition & Hilliberg Atko etc.) and in my view a much better tent. It's very quick and easy to put up and is very stable, the inner does not droop at all, it has 2 entrances and you can fit 2 in at a push, (The latest version the inner has been made bigger, so 2 can fit in easily) My only gripes are the length of it packed, the end inner poles determine this, the flip side is they make for great headroom at each end, and the inadequate small pockets (Improved on the latest model, but still not ideal) Order the solid inner for our UK weather, the extra crossing poles for windy or snowy conditions and some extra guide line cords. Great review, I'd send Henry Shire the Tarptent supremo the link, I'm sure he would be pleased of your video.
Thanks for your info. I’ve found myself this evening ordering a scarp 2 and have used your advice with my order choice. One quick question - I went for the 2 instead of the 1 because I always have my Labrador with me on the hills. Do you think the 1 would have had ample space, or do you think the 2 is a safer bet for me and the pooch?
Nice one Murray. I’d never done any camping and got my first tent (Hilleberg Soulo) in Dec 2016. It’s a brilliant tent and I love it, especially for winter camps. Unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait until the end of this year for our next winter outing.

Just ordered a scarp 2 with solid walls and the ali cross poles. £400 which is about the same as the terra nova laser comp 2 (although I will have to pay a further £50 import tax once it arrives). I was planning on buying a terra nova laser but after reading reviews about it being a bit like a coffin I thought sod it, I will follow the advice of some very loyal fans of the scarp and take the risk. I’m not expecting it for a month or so due to Covid, but who knows. Maybe I’ll get a nice surprise in time for the easing of this current lockdown!
@@saml5073 it’s great. I’ve used it several times now in a mixture of windy and calm hilltop conditions in the Black Mountains in Wales where I live. For high wind conditions I think it’s as stable as you’re likely to find any lightweight tent can be. I’ve not tested it in heavy rain but have no doubt it would be fine. As far as room goes I opted for the scarp 2 because the weight difference (500grams or so IIRC) was not a big deal considering the much greater space inside for me, and my dog. In reality if I was gram counting I would have gone for the scarp 1 because I think even they are quite spacious for a single man tent. Also when I ordered, the scarp 1 was out of stock so that kind of made the decision for me. Recently I’ve been camping off my motorcycle a bit more than hill walking and my god am I happy I have the scarp 2. When you have your motorcycle luggage, bulky clothing, helmet etc in the tent with you, you are glad of the extra room! In summary - if you want a bombproof tent you can use as a lightweight, very spacious hiking tent but also use for other activities like biking or whatever, then the scarp 2 is the best choice IMO. If however you are the sort of guy who spends £100 on a titanium pot just to save 200grams, and it’s just you in the tent (no dog or friend) then I’d say get the scarp 1. Whichever u get you won’t regret it.
Oh and by the way, go for the winter (solid) inner, and make sure you get the extra 2 stability poles. They push the price up but they make the tent drum skin taught, it’s brilliant. A lot of guys don’t take the stability poles in most conditions but I always have them with me and always put them on. I think the tent takes less stress that way, and they weight a few hundred grams so i think you must be pretty unfit if you’re worried about carrying that small amount of extra weight.
I got a Scarp 2, which I use as a one man tent. Plenty of room inside and only little space required for pitching. There some companies from the old continent (e. g. in Germany and Sweden), which are selling the tents too.
Interested to hear this. Are you happy with it? I'm a big 6ft 4in and currently angsting over which tent to buy. I tried the Hilleberg Akto. Long enough but the 93cm height drove me mad, too low. My old Terra Nova Quasar was about right and it's 1.05m interior height. So the Scarp 2 as a solo tent is my number one choice. Just waiting for them to become available. Any Scarp 2 feedback gratefully received....
@@overthehill370 Well, I'm 6ft3in (1,91 m) and own a Hilleberg Akto too. The Akto is long enough to lay down, but sitting is a bit of pain. Changing cloth or washing my self inside the tent during pouring Scotish rain turns into physical exercise pretty soon. Much more comfort in the Scarp 2. Two doors and two vestibules are of advantage too. I used my Scarp during the Fjällräven Classic Sweden in 2018 and 2019 and felt very safe and secure. Even by strong winds (may be because I pitched it always with crosspoles). So I would recommend.

Which tent? Well had 5 hillebergs ranging from the Akto to Tarra, the Tarra was the strongest the Akto the most fun and thus got the most use. Taking up hillwalking again, got an anjan 2 and another Akto

Hi - I have not used a footprint and never had any issues - only once when I pitched on a rocky beach in Knoydart- I tore the bottom but reckon it would’ve gone through two layers on that occasion ! Love the tent and not had any issues with it (don’t tend to go out in bad weather though 👍

Thanks for this, good to know. Back in the day (80s) I used a Vango Force 10 Mk4, not many summit camps but it got good use and never let me down. Not as big as the Scarp1, but also light and quick to put up, and made in Scotland, so totally midge proof. Don't camp much now so was wondering how a Force 10 compares with a modern tent (apart from probably being smaller)?
Hi. Only just come across this video. Looks a great tent. One question - how does it perform with condensation? Maybe you mentioned that and I missed it. Looks like it should do well with the two end vents and also the option to open the two doors at the top as well.
I have this tent too mate, and, like you i think it is a fantastic piece of kit, it is still an import though and i had to pay about £80 duty i think, ive made my own little tweaks and improvements to it over the time ive used it but i cant say there is anything about it i don't like, they are just quality of life adjustments^^. nice film=)
Great vid Murray, do you think the Scarp 1 could fit me and a deranged Springer spaniel in?,I at the mo have a terra nova southern cross 2,which although I'm happy with,it does weigh about 1.5 kg more,which as you elude to may not matter to a 20 yrs old but to a 59 yr old with dodgy knee's/back is a killer.

Is it me??? I have several tents (I mean, who doesn't?!?!?) but have been looking for an all season tent (for a good year and a half) with enough room for the dawg and me and just think Hillebergs, whilst great, are both small, seemingly flappy, heavier and ridiculously expensive?!?!?!? This, at half the price seems too good to be true? There have been loads of reviews, almost all extremely positive.... but will this REALLY hold up to the worst of the UK weather? Thanks in advance for replies..
So after much searching to find the right tent I am getting close with this one. I am struggling to find lightweight, spacious and at the right price that will fit me in it comfortably. You said you were about 6 foot so wondering if you think I will fit in at 6'4"? Thanks in advance for your help and keep up the great vids. Heh Murray, been trying to get hold of one of these tents for ages and latest is back order standing at 12 weeks as we speak. Drew Nicol try Tiso, they have a great 1 man tent also around the 1.4 - 1.5kg Mark. Great alternative for lightweight gear is the Dutch Army bivvy bag. However The tent prob the most practicable.
Looks a nice lite tent that, but as you say, camping with camera and vlogging gear isn't liteweight, heart breaking sometimes when you get to the top and the claggs in, I call it dead weight 😭😭 atb Mark

My Scarp 1 is being delivered on Monday but the import duty was £93.79. If yours was £50 you did well.

Can’t remember - was about 10 years ago - one thing to remember tho is import tax if you purchase one 👍👍

Is it me??? I have several tents (I mean, who doesn't?!?!?) but have been looking for an all season tent (for a good year and a half) with enough room for the dawg and me and just think Hillebergs, whilst great, are both small, seemingly flappy, heavier and ridiculously expensive?!?!?!? This, at half the price seems too good to be true? There have been loads of reviews, almost all extremely positive.... but will this REALLY hold up to the worst of the UK weather? Thanks in advance for replies..

So after much searching to find the right tent I am getting close with this one. I am struggling to find lightweight, spacious and at the right price that will fit me in it comfortably. You said you were about 6 foot so wondering if you think I will fit in at 6'4"? Thanks in advance for your help and keep up the great vids. By the way, do you still have the other tent and would you want to sell it?? 😁👍
Hi Michael, I think it would be fine length wise for you. I still have a bit of room when lying down so hopefully it would be fine. Such a good tent. Afraid I am not selling as using bot tens at moment and use them when camping with family too .

Hi Samuel - I got some sealant from Amazon and did it myself :) it’s pretty easy to do (redid it this summer when I was treating it with permethrin too - video up in summer ;)

SCARP 1 same basic design as Hilleberg Akto..... bomber design for single person tent.

Heh Murray, been trying to get hold of one of these tents for ages and latest is back order standing at 12 weeks as we speak. You mentioned you have 2 ...one new and one repaired.....so would you consider selling me the repaired one as looking to do some west coast hiking for a week in May.

Hi Drew- afraid my older tent is on its last legs and will be moving to the new one at some point soon! Giong to keep the old one though as it give me an option to give my kids a tent when they get out with me once te current crisis has hopefully left us...

Drew Nicol try Tiso, they have a great 1 man tent also around the 1.4 - 1.5kg Mark. Great alternative for lightweight gear is the Dutch Army bivvy bag. However The tent prob the most practicable.
Looks a nice lite tent that, but as you say, camping with camera and vlogging gear isn't liteweight, heart breaking sometimes when you get to the top and the claggs in, I call it dead weight 😭😭 atb Mark
Is it good enough space to cook while it is raining?
Hi Thomas - the porch and footprint can be extended or reduced , so in theory you could although I try not to cook anywhere inside as most tents are highly flammable if you get my meaning :)

Hi Ian - I certainly don’t have any issues in sitting up in the tent TBH - not sure how it’s specifications compare to other though 👍 its a great wee tent though and can recommend the Scarp1 👍

Hi Andy, the SCARP Tarptents can only be bought directly from Tarptent , so there is an additional import tax TBH. However great tent , I absolutely love my SCARP :)
