M. BADIAN: PORTRAIT for Piano

PORTRAIT for piano is one of the many examples of pieces in which I used Pandiatonism, thus producing the illusion of Suspension of Time. Pandiatonic is a technique of using the diatonic - as opposed to the chromatic - scale without the limitations of functional tonality. This composition depicts an evocative musical journey in which a range of contemporary techniques are introduced, including such challenges as rapidly performed figures, polychords, cross-over technique, tuplets and, above all, an intimate sense of differentiated dynamic interpretation.
