    As a long sufferer of CRPS, this case breaks my heart but I’m not surprised by the hospitals actions. I’ve had it since 2010 and I’ve been treated super poorly by all doctors especially pain related. It’s horrible and the change in the drug laws absolutely have not helped us as chronic pain patients 😢

    • @marguerilla
      @marguerilla ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I totally agree about the pain drug law being all over the place. Following some decades of really lax prescribing practices (I remember the top doctor in my city giving my mom an oxy rx with endless refills for regular menstrual cramps when I was a kid, no questions asked by pharmacists either!) they arbitrarily tighten up in unpredictable ways and destabilize pain management practices… in ways that only affect the legitimate businesses/pain mgmt practices who follow the rules and do nothing for the shady great area pill mills with a money hungry MD at the helm - that still do exist. Absolutely has only made street drug use rates increase, fent in high demand to cut fake pills….

      I was going to ask about your latter sentence. They started cracking down on pain prescriptions in 2015 I believe. There was a state of the union in 2014 or 2015 addressing this and things have gotten stricter since then. Im sure it’s been very difficult for you to get treatment.

    Thank you for asking Maya about her mom. As a mom who was shocked by what John Hopkins Children’s hospital did to Maya, her mother, brother, father and entire family I long to know more about Beata and to celebrate her life, which she sacrificed to save her daughter. Knowing Maya considers herself a carbon copy of her mother warms my heart. Now I feel like I have met Beata, through Maya. Watching Maya’s composure throughout the trial and how articulately she expressed herself I know her mother is very proud of the amazing young woman Maya has become. God bless you Maya and your family. 🙏 May the future be filled with wonderful experiences and dreams that come true. You deserve the best life has to offer. 😘

    This was truly the worst case of medical abuse by a paediatrician and social worker! They are still showing no remorse and such arrogance that makes me highly doubtful of professional medical integrity. As a medical specialist myself, this was extremely disturbing! So proud of Maya, I can't imagine what she and the Kowalski family had to go through. Similarly to Beata, my mother is from Lithuania and holds similar values and characteristics which may be culturally different from the "American" etiquette. It all stems from a pure, caring, and loving heart. A direct tone is not necessarily rude, it is the way immigrants learned their second language and are not used to sugar coating discussions, especially when it involves the health of their kids. I am so happy to see the long awaited results of the their case and well deserved fight they have won.

      Yes John Hopkins via their attorneys have managed to become even more despicable than when the facts of this case first were presented. The defense's last statements to the jury were rude, condescending and completely uncalled for. There was absolutely no reason for him to say such things. Judge Hunter Carroll deserves praise and recognition for the impeccable way he oversaw the legal proceedings before him. If I had one criticism it is that he appeared to allow the defense attorneys a bit more leeway. Occasionally it felt like the defense was disrespectful to him as well.

People should never be able to pay an amount of money and not go to prison for something like this.

    I knew the hospital would fight this. To drag Maya and her family through this. Question a juror about "S's" when he wrote down? Come on! I hope the judge overturns the hospitals bs accusations. The hospital doesn't want to take responsibility for they, the doctors and nurses have done to Maya and her family. I pray for the Kowalski family

    She does look just like her mum! Beautiful. Watching this trial was gut-wrenching. I know the attorney's are doing their job representing the hospital, but they by their facial expressions showed they believed that hospital's bologna!!! My doctor's thought I had lupus bc I got one sided lesions and extreme body pain, but, it was because of this trial my doctors are checking into CRPS as they even didn't understand fully what it is and the symptoms fit. I have MS too and I went through a similar experience with my concerns being ignored and brushed off to anxiety etc. Then I was diagnosed with MS too. Amazing how many hospitals drop the ball dude!

      That's extremely unlikely, the jury was unanimous and the judge was heavily favoring the defense the entire time. I think it's definitely very likely they will reduce the payout, especially the punitive damages, but there's not gonna be any new trial.
