I honestly thought this second half was the weakest they’ve done. I watched the episodes because they’ve done great work previously but I didn’t really care about Johnny K9, or Luna, the steroid trial, XPW or the Japanese death match promotion. They all seem to follow the same format.
Was a good episode. As a kid, I can remember the issue where state athletic commissions were going to force the wrestlers to wear headgear, etc, if Vince didn’t admit that it was sports entertainment. That issue was bigger news than the steroid trial in my memory as a kid. I don’t even remember hearing much about the steroid trial at the time. It is funny in retrospect to realize that the shift to smaller guys, Yokozuna, etc was all motivated by the steroid issue & not just Hulk Hogan randomly deciding to leave WWF.
@@chrischar9428 it had something to do with them relating it to boxing IIRC. It’s not regulated like pro boxing, so if people were going to get hit in the head they would have to wear headgear like amateur boxing.
I don't necessarily think Vince actually conspired to distribute steroids per se, but it seems that he tacitly let certain things go on backstage at his shows that he probably should not have.
@@MrJjburgess11 That's kind of my point though, Vince and the brass knew it was happening and looked the other way when they probably should have said something like "what you do on you're own time is your business, but there can't be even a whiff of steroids within the confines of our locker room/building.

Maybe I’m in the minority on this opinion, but this episode was disappointing. I know some may say it’s cuz it was “just an hour” (well then make it a two parter like they have some others), but it seems a lot was left out. They show guys like Rude leaving the courthouse and mention Piper testifying, but don’t delve into any of what was said by them (learned on this clip Rude changed his testimony apparently). Just seemed like they only grazed the surface barely to me. 🤷♂️
agreed. I've always been under the impression this was a really controversial topic, but the episode made it seem pretty straight forward. one of the least exciting episodes tbh.
Vince Got jammed up because 1. He's defiant. 2. All the other sports had the steroid problems but were untouchable to government had to show they had something so vince got caught up
Some ideas for the next season: the ringboy scandal, Black Saturday, Tammy Sytch, Magnum TA motorcycle accident, the sale of JCP to Ted Turner, Ole Anderson and WCW under Jim Herd and/or Bill Watts. That way I can see Jim Cornette rant about Jim Herd for 45 minutes.
This plants the seed of doubt that the Fed only goes to court when they have a slam dunk case. It seems that Vince himself could not have scripted this any better.
The most you could accuse Vince of was fostering an environment where hyper muscularity guaranteed success and even then, guys like The Warlord were still lower midcard guys. Its the equivalent of going to work at a restaurant where all the women have blonde hair but you’re a brunette…they arent going to explicitly tell you to dye your hair but if 10 other blondes come in behind you…your chances are slim to none and slim just left town.
Outside of this, I still love all of this Vince hate but we wouldn't have AEW or anything relevant in wrestling if it wasn't for him. The business will owe that man forever.
Considering how long it took them to even stand a chance of getting Snuka in court, it seems like it would be incredibly hard to prove anything against Vince at this point. Sad to say, but the boat of doing anything in that case has probably sailed.
One thing is for sure. There is 166 2/3 percents chance that the big bad booty daddy did not use steroids. My pythons are natural because I’m a GENETIC FREAK and I’m NOT NORMAL. Holler, if you here me.
This was a solid season. It wasnt as good as season 2, but still really good. The episode about XPW was better imo than it had any right to be. The story about two guys showing up at John Arezzi's house to intimidate him made me laugh b/c of how untrue it sounded. The Nick Gage episode I didn't care for b/c I don't like that type of wrestling and as Jim would say it's a bunch of outlaw mud show bullshit. The Chris Kanyon episode was weak, but I felt it wasn't a bad episode and the Luna Vachon episode made me sad for her and really dislike Sable even more than I already had. A few episodes I'd like to see for season 4: the life and death of Joanie Laruer, The WCW racism lawsuit, Black Saturday, and the ring boy scandal. Those would be the one's I'd love to see.
This really showed Meltzer,Arezzi and Wade Keller as just….Nerds or Marks. Like these guys entire life is dedicated to a fake sport, which dont get me wrong I was once a hardcore wrestling fan myself but they really live for gossiping and social climbing around something thats not real. Thats why Vince got off too…these are like actors taking steroids, they aren’t having legitimate shoot fights or amateur fights where unknown strength matters. Even Muschnik says “Well his brand is built on taking your vitamins and saying prayers” …thats Working yourself into a Shoot and realistically he was taking vitamins and saying his prayers,so what?
Even from the viewpoint of just common sense, the charges make no sense. Anyone Vince was willing to hire in the late 80s was likely already juicing or he wouldn't of hired them in the first place. He had no need to be their dealer and, even if he did introduce them to a willing physician, it was legal at the time.
@@MBM1117727 Or perhaps the idea was just to make an example out of the most successful promoter. Either way, it's interesting to contemplate the direction WWF could have gone in if Vince was sent to the slammer.

The best part of this episode was all the AEW diehards were hoping this would be the Ultimate Hit Piece of Vince and the Evil Empire that is WWE. Instead, it showed that Vince is a mastermind and played 5D Chess, just as he currently does with AEW.
@TheJoeGreene I just checked, SmackDown is stagnating around 2.2 million and Raw actually shrunk to around 1.6 million viewers in recent months (with both audiences still being vastly overaged). There are a lot of ways to stick it to AEW, but this ain't it. 😂
@TheJoeGreene Raw had its smallest audience ever not in 2020, but on this year's July 5th at 1.47 million. Viewership climbed then a bit and peaked on August 23rd at 2.07 million, and now is back down to around 1.6 million for the last three weeks straight. Raw also had its lowest 18-49 rating in history just two weeks ago on October 18th at 0.39/510k. The numbers don't lie, and they still spell disaster!

"Shut them down"... how exactly? Walk us through that process, step by step, please! Every second of a "Dark Side" episode gets checked and vetted by Vice TV's lawyers before it airs.
I always laughed at the Hogan bit, because he always swore down he wouldn't backstab Vince and there he was, backstabbing Vince because he was working for Turner
Hogan sabotaged Vince at every opportunity, yet when Warrior wanted his payday, he was like, "let's go rough him up". Meanwhile, not only did he testify against Vince, ans try to put him under during the MNW, Hogan absolutely no sold the WWF championship while he was in Japan.
Vince probably didn't know a fucking thing about him at that point. he was the guy that the media got because they didn't know a single thing about the workings of wrestling.

I heard Phil Mushnick Interviewed about why he took on Vince and I think he started doing it right around the time Eddie Gilbert died. Mushnicks view was “Why is no one asking questions about all these dead wrestlers?” A lot of what he said made sense. He was an advocate for the wrestlers getting health care and such. And there's some things that they wont touch like the JBL bullying allegations, because too many wrestlers are on record supporting/making excuses for it/being buddies with the guy. Ditto the Bob Holly bullying allegations. I think even CM Punk defended Holly's behavior..

Does anybody really care that professional wrestlers use steroids? They're not great for anyone's health, but neither is fried chicken. The biggest problem with steroids is that they're incredibly illegal.
Well, that and 'roid rage leading to assault and destruction of property. If people can't control themselves while on a substance that substance should be controlled.
@@singaporesammy how many people do you know that use gear? clearly low #s if you think that ancient rhetoric is coming outta your mouth.. gear use doesnt give you rage, you have it already, it just magnifies it.. if you never were an angry person you dont become one..
No. the only thing that should be a concern is abuse. but even in the case of abuse. the media make it sound like all these guys died from steroids. no. the 80's was cocaine, the 90's was pills and that was worse, the 00's to present day was either young guys got on pills and sadly died or guys in the 80's and 90's died years later because of the damage done then.

If these reporters really were against steroids. Where were during the baseball steroid scandal, lance Armstrong scandal, Barry bonds, why didn’t they attack those guys. Personal attacks on wwe. Dave n the groones. 15 mins of fame
Funny how they are more upset about a predetermined event rather than an actual sport using steroids.

I'm sure there's things Vince has done he could go to prison for lol never doubt a rich guy
I honestly thought this second half was the weakest they’ve done.
I watched the episodes because they’ve done great work previously but I didn’t really care about Johnny K9, or Luna, the steroid trial, XPW or the Japanese death match promotion.
They all seem to follow the same format.
Wish the episode was much longer then the one hour.
I did too.. I know it takes money to do those shows but I wish they went deeper in it..
What has McMahon ever done that he should’ve gone to prison for?
Ask Owen.
Ask the rig team that he hired .

You realize he didn’t throw Owen off the building.
What crime did he committ there? Oh right, he never committed one.
Martha won the lawsuit.
Dark Side of the Ring was pretty boring this season.
I actually enjoyed it.
Headgear....wtf
@@chrischar9428 it had something to do with them relating it to boxing IIRC. It’s not regulated like pro boxing, so if people were going to get hit in the head they would have to wear headgear like amateur boxing.
Hogan wasn't as over with the WWF audience in 93 like he was in 90/91. They were pretty tired of him by that point.
I don't necessarily think Vince actually conspired to distribute steroids per se, but it seems that he tacitly let certain things go on backstage at his shows that he probably should not have.
All those guys that were on them came into the company already on them. It's a don't ask don't tell situation.
@@MrJjburgess11 That's kind of my point though, Vince and the brass knew it was happening and looked the other way when they probably should have said something like "what you do on you're own time is your business, but there can't be even a whiff of steroids within the confines of our locker room/building.
He was like a mob boss. Telling people to get bigger without actually saying take roids.
@@Tim85-y2q well in all fairness. They weren't illegal untill the early 90s. So in the 80s I don't see an issue.

I get so sad when Darkside season ends. It's my favorite show on TV hands down.

Damn right man! And some shitty episodes! Did we really need an fmw episode?! Or a Nick gage episode?!
One of the best things about these videos is watching to see how Travis's art fits into the story.
This episode alone perfectly displays why Wade Keller was on Jim's S**t list. And you can't hate on McDevitt. Poorly constructed case deserves to be obliterated.
Like JR said, I’m calling that guy if I’m ever in deep shit. That man is a legend
I don't think they even needed McDevitt. The prosecution was so inept a recent law school graduate could have won.
“The staff of WFAN…”? Did Last mean WWE or sports radio 660am/1019fm WFAN NY?
That thumbnail is something else. Cornettezuna!

SMH Magnum T.A didn't have a Motorcycle 🏍️ crash. Learn your history Son 🤔
*Nicely put haha*
Warlord might have been a star if he could work and had charisma.
Dark Side of the Ring could have probably done an episode on McDevitt's perspective of the steroid trail.
Outside of this, I still love all of this Vince hate but we wouldn't have AEW or anything relevant in wrestling if it wasn't for him. The business will owe that man forever.
I would enjoy hearing Stephen P. New's thoughts on this particular episode. If he had been the prosecutor, how would he have beaten Vince?
"What would you send Vince to prison for?"
How about aiding and abetting in the murder of Nancy Argento?
Considering how long it took them to even stand a chance of getting Snuka in court, it seems like it would be incredibly hard to prove anything against Vince at this point. Sad to say, but the boat of doing anything in that case has probably sailed.

Loved all the legal jargin. From getting Hogan out of trial to all the shit wrestler testimonies. Absolutely wonderful.

I think it comes from a lack of understanding about the wrestling business and a misconception that its all one big monopoly controlled by McMahon
