    SM4 is also more source-dependent and harder to drive than the Nova. The Nova is bulkier and not built as rugged as the SM4. 😊

      yeah I feel like he completely forgets to mention stuff like nozzle size. I have ears on the smaller side, with a weird ear canal too, so nozzle size and deep/shallow fit are very important for me lol. I know I can't fit a hexa in my ears, but I can an IE200, so I'd need to try stuff that's in between, but mentioning at least nozzle size is a big deal for me lol

    watching this video using the SM4 that i got after my original tinhifi T2 somehow got broke
    if i were to describe that piezoelectric sound on the trebble it would be "super CRISP", on a side note the bass also go boom

  • @peanutjam
    @peanutjam 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    When you refer to the piezoelectric driver‘s sound, it’s basically just a special shape of the frequency response in the treble region, right? Because I have heard that headphones/iems are minimum phase, meaning that two iems with different drivers bit the (exact) same frequency response should sound the same, right?

  • @juanblanco7898
    @juanblanco7898 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I really think you should have mentioned their ridiculously low impedance. This makes them highly source dependent and, at this point, even cable dependent.
    With this in mind, it almost makes sense that they don't come with balanced connections as balanced outputs typically have a higher output impedance on most geat.

    • @Hannigan501
      @Hannigan501 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just got them today and they sound incredibly hollow when plugged directly into my laptop and even with an Apple dongle (EU), like there's certain frequencies that are just inaudible. I'm waiting for a FiiO KA11 to come in to hopefully make them sound any ways decent. Really disappointed so far.

    • @juanblanco7898
      @juanblanco7898 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Hannigan501 Tbh, they graph like they'd sound more or less like that with any decent source as well. But high output impedance of your current source may be a (possibly quite significant) compounding factor.

      Atm, it's probably Supermix 4 or the EW300, also by Simgot.
      You can also try the Kiwi Ears Quintet, which also uses a PZT for some of the treble, but I can't comment on it personally because I haven't tried it. It was pretty well-received, although some complained about slightly metallic, unnatural sounding vocals and instruments.

    I wanted to buy this IEM when it was first released, but I held back. Last weekend, I went to a store and tried 30-40 IEMs. The sm4 was the only one that made me want to take it off immediately after listening to it, but I still held on for a minute. This completely made me give up the intention to buy it. Sound is very thin, I don't know, I don't think I have extreme tastes, I like TitanS2, Kadenz, Zen pro, Aria2, Aful P8, Cadenza4 etc... But I really can't accept sm4, maybe because I tried the wrong type of music? like Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi?

    Just picked these up and I really rate them coming from the S12. They sound quite dynamic throughout the frequency range and don't really feel too wonky as I think some other cheaper hybrids (looking at you, KZ) can do. I suppose these confirm that I find Harman pretty appealing as it's a fun V shape without really being too offensive - I can take a little more sub bass but these is neither here or there and I think can be a bit much with a DD handling the bass sometimes. I was surprised by how responsive the bass was here and the vocal forwardness is nice with the treble being excellent for me (I want to say on par with the Edition XS which I love for treble). My main gripe so far is that they're pretty source dependant - they sound like wank and as if a bass drum has been shoved into your ear unless I have them on high gain. I can't say how they compare to pricier options compared to this price range pre-chifi these are awesome.

    • @forwarduntodawn2744
      @forwarduntodawn2744 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      How is its technicality compare to S12?

    • @chickenpie9698
      @chickenpie9698 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @forwarduntodawn2744 I'd say the S12 is still better purely for clarity, treble sounds equally detailed on both and the mids sound around the same but the bass on the S12 is faster and maybe reaches down a little lower while the Supermix is definely more dynamic in the bass. I'd say both are relatively similar in terms of details overall though. The S12 is a planar everything sounds really 'fast' so it's kinda like just having your music laid out in front of you but less physical. The Supermix sounds much more tactile, the bass goes similarly low but has better impact and slam, mids sound a tad more physical too and vocals are noticeably forward, treble is much less boosted than the S12 (which can be sibilant at times sadly) but sounds a bit more physical (due to the PZT driver maybe?).
      Both are great overall I think. I'd say that maybe the S12 has more outright detail while the Supermix makes up for it by providing additional information in terms of physicality.

    I honestly wouldn't buy either (I'd much rather you save some money and get the Hexa or the Xuan NV), but I would definitely recommend the SM4 if you're considering between it and the Nova 👌🏼

    • @albertko1
      @albertko1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I feel the opposite... the SM4 is SO much more thumpy than my XuanNv so I like the slightly more clean yet still defined high end. Sure, I picked up my XuanNV for just about half as much as the SM4s and they do have a lot more treble "sparkle" but that can be a bit harsh at times for me but it is perfect for vocals. SM4 for me sounds better for hip pop and high energy pop or dance tracks.
