I feel like I have watched hundreds (at least) of wood turning videos just because I find it interesting and have never before seen that kind of paint done. It is so rad. Thanks for the video, very cool.
Nicely done. Natural wood is great and we all love it but kudos to you for adding color and stepping out a bit on design. Thanks for the ideas and videos. Great techniques that I'll definitely try.
Beautifully done, pleased l found your channel, as a 73year old getting his first lathe for Christmas l find your work very inspiring, thankyou look forward to viewing more of your work.
Very nice bowl, dont worry about negative comments. I enjoyed seeing you do something creative instead of the typical videos you see of this type of thing. Very well done and keep up the good work. You inspired me to finally get a lathe and have a go at it!
Wonderful creativity! I'm coming in at different times in your 3 or so year postings, and the early projects are just as good as the later ones! This one sure has a pottery look,,, quite nice indeed!
I have the Oneway bowl saver and like it very much. Comes with excellent instructional video. Very important to sharpen the cutters frequently and be patient.
First, I love your commentary as you work. So many of the wood-turning videos assume that we know what is being done and why. Second, I am surprised you often work with long sleeves. I was taught never to do that around tools like the lathe. Third, I appreciate that you are willing to take chances. So many of the other wood-turning videos are the same old thing: big piece of wood turned into a bowl. You're willing to try something different. Thanks for your efforts!
Thanks 👍Most of the time when I wear long sleeves is to protect my arms. Stuff coming off the piece can be sharp or hot (especially with resin). I just try to have sleeves that aren't puffy or dangling. Thanks for watching!
I am not a wood turner so I love the commentary you provide. I do like the natural wood grain but the paint turned out better than I thought it would. Keep up the good work. Bless you!
Love this bowl. The painted outside is on my colors and the cling wrap gave a great texture. I live working with interference paints, it is always a surprise when you see the finished product.
@@PFWoodturning May I ask a question of you? That carbide tool that you use. The one that has the round insert. Does that work "easier" or "better" than a bowl gouge in the radius of bowls? I have some hesitations when it comes to working in those radius's. I turned 2 bowls and a votive candle holder this weekend from scrap pine 4x6" blocks that we burn at work, and making that radius always makes me a bit skiddish... ;) Thanks for any information you can pass on to a newb in that area.
You have a very soothing voice. Edit: I know everyone seems to be downing the paint/coloring but it does look very nice considering that I haven't seen anyone else doing this. Can't wait to see more of your work.
I prefer the cling wrap method (used on plain grain woods) - I use the cling wrap after words to dab the necessary spots since it will have paint on it - nicely done and thanks for taking the time to share with us.
Love the bowl .I know some like the wood and maple is awesome but the color was soft and was so easy on the eyes . The imagination could go wild with the colors you could use. Great bowl and ideas
I got a wood lathe last year, and I have been watching all that TH-cam has to offer, but this is the first of your videos I have had the pleasure of watching. You're also the only person I've subscribed to for woodworking. I found this very easy to follow, and (nicely enough) very calming. Thank you for that. I'm not sure if that style of painting is for me, but it turned out very well. Excellent video; thank you.
Gosh, it must be the permafrost on my brain, I really think the marbling effect of the paint. Gives the bowl a look like it was carved out of deep blue glacial ice. I really like that you color outside the lines. If you do not push the boundaries, you will eventually get stuck. In the immortal words of Samual Clemens 'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.' Keep on swimming Old Man Minnesota
What a neat technique to add color. Pretty creative. Perhaps you should call it the Klingon technique whose name is inspired by Star Trek. Thanks for sharing!!!
What a great technique with the iridescent paints. Will definitely be putting that down on the "need to try" list. I've been looking at the Jo Sonja paints for a week or two as something to try so will be going there once I have mastered the Intrinsic colours. Intriguing how a lot of the commentators wouldn't have coloured the outside of the bowl but I think you get the plenty of the grain showing on the inside and it's the contrast between the outside and inside that is the eye catcher here.
I like your work very much. The bowl saver is a great idea. I have a One-Way and it is easier to sharpen and replace cutting tips. When I bought one, I found that selling the extra bowls paid for the system. I have friends who bought other systems and found that sharpening or replacing tips were more expensive and more difficult. I am glad I got the One-Way. Keep turning and have fun.
Sorry Peggy you lost it for me when the paint went on.a lovely piece of wood on the inside but the outside, not for me,but that’s just my taste you understand Cheers Les
I like your finished bowl. I had my doubts when you started the color but you pulled it off nicely. You sure wear nice clothes for working in the wood shop. Turning time for me is usually my worst tee shirt and worst jeans. You are creative WITH STYLE! 😎👍🎄👏
@@PFWoodturning oh, I should mention too, just start with the smallest knife set and then you can determine which others you want/need. When all is said and done its a pretty rare bowl blank that needs larger than the 11 inch. It'll make more sense once you start using it, but you can use different sets for the same diameter bowl, but the bigger the set the shallower the bowl blank will be, so I use the smallest set possible
You done a better job then I could do. Your tool rest, it's not many that you see on here like yours, it has a carbon bead on it. Your tools slide so easy. You see all those other guys with a big fancy lathe but still have the tool rest where you have to drag your tools across it. Terry
Just found your channel and I have to say that you certainly do beautiful work I subscribed immediately and definitely invest in the bowl saver it's definitely worth it especially for the nicer or finer pieces of wood like the figured maple. Keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more videos
Woodturners, like woodworkers in general, tend to love wood. We may have different judgements about what kind of wood, if any, should be colored, and about whether it enhances or obscures the beauty of the piece. But... if you want to sell the work you produce, it’s the customer, and not other turners whose preferences need to be considered. A lot of woodturners, and even more customers like color. Finding the balance between your own aesthetic intuition and your customer’s wishes is all that really matters. Good job for not just falling into the wood worshipping trap.
Gorgeous bowl...love the grain in the wood. You've been watching Wayne Clasper...I love when he uses that technique, but I wouldn't have colored curly maple.
Nice work, Peggy! I love that curl in the wood. It's almost fiddleback! It's almost a pitty to have lost some of the curl through coloring, but what a fantastic effect from clingwrap!
Nice work Peggy, I have the one-way system and it does a great job. The Learning curve is not to steep and its a sturdy device. The biggest issue was getting the system delivered from one way. Mine has four knives and I wanted the system delivered as a complete package. At the time there was some issue in the production line. And it took months to get to me. ( hopefully you won't face that problem ) But once it arrived it was ready to go. Their accompanying video was strait forward and very helpful. I would suggest getting their little grinding jig for the cutters it makes sharpening them so much easier.
A very beautiful Bowl I like the idea of the cling wrap it seemed to work very well like some of the others I think I would have left that one alone and just used the natural curl of the bowl all in all though a very beautiful Bowl
Beautiful wood grain is mother nature’s’ gift, but your coloring efforts are your own and I think far more rare and archiveable than hers. Please keep up your fine art‼️
I think this a really good technique. It certainly would give me a variety of looks for my bowls. I would be willing to try it on a piece of pine. - but never that beautiful maple.
I feel like I have watched hundreds (at least) of wood turning videos just because I find it interesting and have never before seen that kind of paint done. It is so rad. Thanks for the video, very cool.

Nice finishing technique. Unusual look on the outside, beautiful maple on the inside. Very well done!

Peggy once again you have produced a beautiful bowl. Colours are incredible contrasting with the natural colour of the maple. ✌️🌼🙏
