White? Cleaning every other day? Try the Japanese Spitz, their luxuriously über white coat is near-self cleaning.. own a half japanese Spitz and it's true.. I still clean his feet every day though.. it's just hygiene as he scratches his face etc, occasionally.
Some run on the larger side. Mine was big for his breed. We got him cheap from his fancy pants breeders cuz he didn't meet the breed standard for showing.
My female was the runt and she weighs 20 pounds, with no fat at all… we call her “the beast”; 5 pounds larger than the breed standard but taking measurements into consideration she’s fit as a fiddle…what a great pup!
I grew up with Westies! They're amazing! Smart, playful, cuddly, just everything fun in the perfect size. It's perfectly ok for them to get dirty, they just need a brushing to get them clean again.

It's actually hard to groom my Westie, he hates baths so it takes two people to keep him from running out of the tub, he is very nice and cute but when we need to get something done as for example cleaning his back paws he tries bitting and growls. I am not saying he is a mean dog or anything but he is difficult to manage with somethings. I had since I was in elementary school which in 2017. Now I am a senior and he is just 6 years old now.
Dog isn't scared. He probably is not held often. I have started picking up my beagle like this and at first, he wasn't sure about what I was doing and had a similar look to this cute Westie. Now, he jumps on me trying to encourage me to pick him up, doing the same thing that's going on in this video. Do you have dogs?

I own a Westie, she’ll be 15 at Christmas. She’s incredibly loyal and intelligent, and I agree with what someone else said in the comments - best way to describe “big dog in a small body.” So much character and what I like to call “sweet when no one’s looking” lol 😂 She’s independent, but sometimes needs reassurance from me if she’s in an uncomfortable situation particularly when children are around. Unless raising from a puppy with kids, I would not recommend a Westie as a kid friendly dog. Grooming is fairly straightforward and very minor shedding, but keeping the white coat clean can be a challenge as they love to dig and explore, it’s a part of what they were bred for. Westies can suffer from allergies which cause itching, so it’s important to look after their skin. They like to be active and should be walked regularly, though can be bossy so best to exercise caution when socialising with other dogs. They also enjoy quiet time and can be territorial with bones and treats etc., so do require some training in this regard. For a first dog I would definitely recommend, but it depends on what someone is looking for. No hate, but this video is about 1/10 for any accuracy or useful info about Westies. Just simply do some research if you’re thinking about getting one, there’s plenty of info available on this breed.
this exactly especially the big dog in a small body haha, our girl thought she was the bigger dog all until the labs came our then she sprinted haha, but I would disagree about the not kid friendly, i grey up with 2 of em haha, i would say the lads are more kid friendly he just had no care in the world he was chill, the girl was the chaotic one haha, but i also wouldnt say first dog if they cant walk them much or cant be around a lot as they do need a lot of attention, they are also very prone to medical conditions and allergies which do need to be watched out for

First time Westie owner💙 Smart, funny, cuddly, but like his own space when tired. Playful, loves toys and walks. Loves to chase squirrels, very well behaved. Watches tv and has memorized all the tunes to commercials that have animals. Do you know how many commercials have animals???🤣🤣

I had one for 16 years and I would not recommend the breed for first time dog parents. They can be very stubborn, hard to train, and develop aggressive tendencies since their prey drive is very strong. This is a dog that requires a firm, patient, and loving hand. And a backyard and daily routine to keep them stimulated because they are smart and active.
We had Dagmar and she eventually got to live with her grandparents. She found a stuffed toy her grandma made and she dragged the toy everywhere. My parents treated her like a grandchild. She got treats and presents.
I was given a westie when I was 7 years old from my estranged grandfather. He was 17 when he fell asleep. I miss him every day, and it's been 9 years. He went through a lot of shit times with me during my childhood. From heroin addicted parents, to my mums overdose death, to extreme physical and emotional abuse from a dad who didn't want me and hated me for taking his mum away from him (his own words there btw, as she then looked after me if you can even call it that), to house raids, to bullying, to heartbreak. He was there for it all and stood with me against them all. He bit my dad once for trying to come into my room, and he did it again when he came in to steal my piggy bank. I feel so guilty for keeping him in such a toxic environment where he was always on edge. I should have said to someone and got us out of there. When I had to make the decision to put him to sleep due to cancer, it was an agony that i couldn't explain. Nothing would ever be the same again after that day. God, i love you, Lucks ❤ 🏴
Lucks was a wonderful friend, who loved you when the world around you was falling apart. I’m so sorry you had a horrible childhood…you deserved so much better. I can honestly relate. My parents didn’t abuse drugs, but they abused me in every way but sexually. You did nothing wrong, as trusting anyone is difficult as a child. Lucks was meant to be your comfort and protector and the one friend who loved you unconditionally. Last September, I had to put my Westie, Sophie, down due to cancer. “Agony” is the perfect word describing the pain of making the decision. As much as it hurt (and still does), you did right by him…he’s no longer suffering. I still miss Sophie, and always will. He will always live in your heart. I can tell no one loved a friend the way you loved Lucks. God Bless You.

I have a Westie named Henry He mostly belongs to my mom but I play with him a lot as well. He’s very calm compared to my two cavalier King Charless spaniels: Rose and Marigold He’s very friendly towards other animals and he is the first dog I ever owned. The Westie deserves more love ✨
yeah male westies are a lot more calm than female westies we have had both, the female is more chaotic but will choose a fav, the male just had no cares in the world just loved life always wanted attention tho haha

I’ve had five Westies and I love them! These little guys can roughhouse outside and get dirty. Since they have a slick outer coat of fur, the dirt can easily be combed right out! And they (naturally) don’t smell bad either!
we have german shepard, and 4 months highland terrier, both of them very active, also you dont need to wash highland terrier everyday, if you wash him he will have problems with skin, it will be very dry. even breeders not recomend to wash them, best option is comb mud out, and it will be clean, their fur is different
exactly this, we have had 2 westies both loved walking, especially when they are younger, when they get older they start getting joint problems, not ideal for first dog owners as they are prone to medical issues and allergies, we probably washed our dog once a month only when the fur was long or if we didnt need to rinse them we use just warm water which didnt have issues, but yeah deffo not suitable for first dog owners.
This haha, our lad needed around 2 hours of walking a day lol our girl only needed a walk as she was bit shorter and stubby haha but they was both chaotic, sadly had to have both of them put down, the girl had to go today for kidney failure sadly, the lad was put down in 21 for lung cancer :( they are prone for medical conditions and allergies so i dont think there a first dog owner unless they was brought up with them
A Westie is a small to medium terrier that makes an ideal pet. Maybe not always suited to be around very young kids as they are independent dogs. The pit bull comparison is an overstatement.
You can't wash a westie every day, because they are double coated and their skin dries out easy. Westies have very strong terrier personalities and strong hunting instincts. I have 4 and they get dirty, but a good brushing gets the dirt out the top coat. Wedgies hate the rain. So does my son's mini pins.
My Westie loved swimming at the lake and would always end up in the swamp. No worries, he got used to many baths. He’d was a muscular 27 pound Westie. 2 walks a day.
I used to have a Westie, she lived to almost 18 yrs. Though they tend to live 11-16 yrs, surprisingly can jump pretty high like a few feet in the air. Like my westie she jumped high enough to kill a crow at around 14-15 yrs. Can be stubborn, but are pretty clever and active.
We have a Westie. Says he wouldn't own one because they are white and he likes to go outside and play (presumably in the rain?). Our girl loves to go outside in the rain. And yes she comes in grubby, But because of the coat type a quick brush when she's dry and she's good as new. No bath required! What's with the pitbull comparison?? Westitude is very real thoughlol
If considering a Westie I would contact a rescue in your area. They are NOT an easy going dog. Must have interesting things to do because they are a terrier. Never ever hit a terrier because the will bite. They expect respect for their intelligence and independent thinking. A rescue will explain that to you. Most rescues will not place a dog in a household with a child younger than 10.
I've had 3 Westies. While they are absolutely fabulous dogs, I wouldn't recommend them to first time dog owners. They do take some training because they can be STUBBORN!
Highly aggressive to other dogs they have no fear factor they are absolute brilliant dogs just typical scotsman on mad yin ona Friday night my neighbours had 1 and it was the only dog my doberman×rottie was scared of 😊😅

This video is such a mess. As a current and past Westie owner, they need exercise just like every single kind of dog. They are incredibly stubborn. I love Westies more than I could have imagined loving a dog but they are not easy to train or great for first time dog owners. Honestly, just don’t get a dog if you aren’t willing to pay for training classes and you aren’t willing to exercise them every day. Don’t hurt a Westie because you believe this dumb video by someone who doesn’t even own a Westie and compares them to a pit bull.
This, but once they are trained they are a very good family dog, we have had 2 sadly both had to be put down the most recent was today due to kidney failure, They are very prone to medical conditions which isnt good for a first dog owner and they are very chaotic and i deffo agree they are very stubborn but i would also say very picky especially when it comes to food, some days they want something else than what you have given them haha, but yeah this video was a mess, our Westies loved walking, sometimes they wanted 2 walks which was an hour haha

Pitbull? LoL far from. They definitely have bullish personality trying to play boss. Older they get , more stubborn they become. They also seek being center of attention, need lots of exercise & frequent grooming. Their far from being maintenance-free. But hey , it's worth it.
The message in this video is a bit misleading: most Westies are energetic and need to be walked a lot, so, in general, not a low-maintenance dog at all. In fact, they can be stubborn, loud, and defiant. They can be a nightmare for frist-time owners.
As the owner of the same breed of dog, I advise her to start only for those who have already had dogs. They are smart and stubborn dogs. They won't always do what you want. Several times my dog bit my finger until it bled when she was a puppy. We walked with her and she found chicken bones and began to gnaw them. I began to take these bones from her mouth and she bit me. 😮
Confident, sassy, brave, inquisitive, stubborn, cheeky and loving. We had our boy for 15 and a half years and you couldn't ask for a better dog.

yeah male westies are a lot more calm than female westies we have had both, the female is more chaotic but will choose a fav, the male just had no cares in the world just loved life always wanted attention tho haha
i took my westie hiking with me :) but make sure you put little booties on them if you do that! they are the most loyal and very smart dogs

I had a Westie! Its a dog with a personality. He is strong en needs a lot off exercise. Its a hunter. He thinks he is a big dog and behaves like that, not scared off anything. He needs a owner who is the boss.

I’ve had five Westies and I love them! These little guys can roughhouse outside and get dirty. Since they have a slick outer coat of fur, the dirt can easily be combed right out! And they (naturally) don’t smell bad either!
we have german shepard, and 4 months highland terrier, both of them very active, also you dont need to wash highland terrier everyday, if you wash him he will have problems with skin, it will be very dry. even breeders not recomend to wash them, best option is comb mud out, and it will be clean, their fur is different
exactly this, we have had 2 westies both loved walking, especially when they are younger, when they get older they start getting joint problems, not ideal for first dog owners as they are prone to medical issues and allergies, we probably washed our dog once a month only when the fur was long or if we didnt need to rinse them we use just warm water which didnt have issues, but yeah deffo not suitable for first dog owners.
My Westie is 12, he still has puppy energy. You better exercise that little rascal as much as you can if you want to live a peaceful life 😅😅😅😅

This haha, our lad needed around 2 hours of walking a day lol our girl only needed a walk as she was bit shorter and stubby haha but they was both chaotic, sadly had to have both of them put down, the girl had to go today for kidney failure sadly, the lad was put down in 21 for lung cancer :( they are prone for medical conditions and allergies so i dont think there a first dog owner unless they was brought up with them
A Westie is a small to medium terrier that makes an ideal pet. Maybe not always suited to be around very young kids as they are independent dogs. The pit bull comparison is an overstatement.

You can't wash a westie every day, because they are double coated and their skin dries out easy. Westies have very strong terrier personalities and strong hunting instincts. I have 4 and they get dirty, but a good brushing gets the dirt out the top coat. Wedgies hate the rain. So does my son's mini pins.

I used to have a Westie, she lived to almost 18 yrs. Though they tend to live 11-16 yrs, surprisingly can jump pretty high like a few feet in the air. Like my westie she jumped high enough to kill a crow at around 14-15 yrs. Can be stubborn, but are pretty clever and active.

We have a Westie. Says he wouldn't own one because they are white and he likes to go outside and play (presumably in the rain?). Our girl loves to go outside in the rain. And yes she comes in grubby, But because of the coat type a quick brush when she's dry and she's good as new. No bath required! What's with the pitbull comparison?? Westitude is very real thoughlol
If considering a Westie I would contact a rescue in your area. They are NOT an easy going dog. Must have interesting things to do because they are a terrier. Never ever hit a terrier because the will bite. They expect respect for their intelligence and independent thinking. A rescue will explain that to you. Most rescues will not place a dog in a household with a child younger than 10.

I've had 3 Westies. While they are absolutely fabulous dogs, I wouldn't recommend them to first time dog owners. They do take some training because they can be STUBBORN!

This video is such a mess. As a current and past Westie owner, they need exercise just like every single kind of dog. They are incredibly stubborn. I love Westies more than I could have imagined loving a dog but they are not easy to train or great for first time dog owners. Honestly, just don’t get a dog if you aren’t willing to pay for training classes and you aren’t willing to exercise them every day.

This, but once they are trained they are a very good family dog, we have had 2 sadly both had to be put down the most recent was today due to kidney failure, They are very prone to medical conditions which isnt good for a first dog owner and they are very chaotic and i deffo agree they are very stubborn but i would also say very picky especially when it comes to food, some days they want something else than what you have given them haha, but yeah this video was a mess, our Westies loved walking, sometimes they wanted 2 walks which was an hour haha

The message in this video is a bit misleading: most Westies are energetic and need to be walked a lot, so, in general, not a low-maintenance dog at all. In fact, they can be stubborn, loud, and defiant. They can be a nightmare for frist-time owners.
Very prone to skin problems, ear infections, allergies. Breeders should stop. Just get a small mutt from the pound.
As the owner of the same breed of dog, I advise her to start only for those who have already had dogs. They are smart and stubborn dogs. They won't always do what you want. Several times my dog bit my finger until it bled when she was a puppy. We walked with her and she found chicken bones and began to gnaw them. I began to take these bones from her mouth and she bit me. 😮
