Jan van Gilse (1881-1944) was a Dutch composer. Belonging to the same generation as Alphons Diepenbrock and Cornelis Dopper, van Gilse also developed a higly romantic and powerful vein close to Mahler and Richard Strauss that sought to restore the long-estranged name of Dutch music in Continental Europe. His Third Symphony proved to be an expansive work. Its pages are filled with dense colors and orchestrations that continuously rise to an elevated status.
Jan van Gilse (1881-1944) fue un compositor neerlandés. De la misma generación que Alphons Diepenbrock y Cornelis Dopper, van Gilse también desarrolló una vena romántica y nutrida cercana a Mahler y Richard Strauss que buscaba restaurar el muy olvidado nombre de la música neerlandesa en Europa. Su Tercera Sinfonía es una obra expansiva. Sus páginas están llenas de colores y orquestaciones densas que continuamente se alzan hasta un estado elevado.
