Robert Plants reaction when they introduced Jason Bonham was because he had invited him to attend this with the band and Jason told him he couldn't go with them because he was already booked for something! The something was this!

The guitar solo is played by Shane Fontayne (Michael Barakan), who has quite a résumé: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_Fontayne I first heard him in the '70s with the Woodstock, NY-based band Johnny Average and the Falcons.
Robert Plant was wiping tears from his eyes. John Bonham was responsible for getting Robert Plant into Led Zeppelin. They had performed together before Led Zeppelin. Jason Bonham is so awesome on drums. His dad would be so proud of him.
Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. This was one of the best covers ever. I saw it when it was originally aired on TV, and I was blown away. I was already a huge Heart fan, but this really brings their greatness to a newer audience. Definitely check out their catalog, Magic Man, Barracuda, Crazy on you, & Alone for starters.
I don't care who you are, or how famous, to hear a song that has been so loved for so long by so many, performed so respectfully and brilliantly as that was, must be a very emotional moment.
Robert Plant is so emotional because the choir is wearing John Bonham's signature bowler hats and John was Robert's best friend and Jason is Robert's godson. You can literally see Jimmy mouthing the notes of the solo. Love it❤Great reaction and Peace out guys ✌️ ☮️ 🙏

Ann Wilson, arguably, has the best ever rock voice. And she shows it on recordings and in person even in her 60s. I've seen Heart in recent years and her voice still lights up any stage.

I have a feeling Robert was possibly watching Jason Bonham play that song, and the memories of days gone by came flooding in. Just my thought. ✌
I'm almost positive, Robert asked Jason to come to this event but, Jason told him, "he couldn't make it." Seeing Jason on stage was a huge surprise to Robert. So he was emotional seeing his best friend's son, which is also Robert's godson, playing his Dad's drum kit and wearing a bowler hat like his father wore.
Thank you for watching this! Full circle. Not asking for a reaction video, but if you have time it is worth it to watch the entire Kennedy honors to LED, it is worth your time. As you mentioned the drummer is the son of the original drummer. I believe Robert Plant's stoic response and teary eyes comes from not only the beautiful version of their song but also seeing the drummer. He mentioned in an interview later that they, as a group had wished they had John Bonham's son with them to accept the Kennedy Honor and were regretting not having him there. The first time they saw him was during this performance. Definitely an emotional time for them all.
Robert is Jason’s godfather & he invited Jason to the Honors, Jason said he had another commitment. So the guys were so surprised to see him, Jason was wearing his father’s hat & playing on his father’s drum kit. Other the Led Zeppelin’s version, this is the only version to do this beautiful song justice, but it took so many more the four geniuses to do it. I believe Robert did tear up, maybe for how beautiful the song was done, or pride in his godson & missing John. Thank you once again for your reaction.
Robert Plant was tearing up. That was a beautiful tribute. The old one that seems young looked a little sour puss, but that's per usual. I wouldn't expect him to really "get" the significance of Led Zeppelin. He obviously missed that ride. Heart actually knows all those guys, as they were contemporaries. And, yes, Jason Bonham played in the place of his father (RIP).
I've seen Heart twice, in the '70's. They credit LZ as being an inspiration to them and cover several of their songs in concert {although never this one as far as I know}. This performance was full of love and respect, and it shows.
That was John Bonham's son playing drums. John was the original drummer for Led Zeppelin. Ann Wilson of Heart was 62 yrs old here. Heart is an iconic group and Ann is the GOAT of female rock singers.
You guys must do Heart. Great rock band from the 70s. Robert Plant only likes Ann and Nancy's version. He seemed stoic because he didn't know John Bonham's son Jason would be drumming. So he was tearing up a few times.

The whole time I keep imagining the pressure on Ann Wilson to sing this song in front of Robert Plant and on Nancy Wilson to play that acoustic intro and then the crushing pressure on Shayne Fontayne to play Jimmy Page's guitar solo with Page looking on! And President Obama and Michelle are there too! In the end it was an extraordinary tribute, and it still shocks me that Plant was so emotional despite having played and heard this song a million times over half-a-century.

The bowler hat Jason was wearing was a tribute to his father and if you noticed the choir were all wearing bowler hats too. Jason was also playing his father's orange drum kit he used with Zep. Robert is Jason's godfather, so these were all things contributing to the overall sentimental nature of this special performance. Side notes: Heart has always sited Zep as a major influence for them growing up and as a band. This is easily confirmed by the fact they frequently covered Zep songs in their concerts and sometimes on recorded albums as well. Often it was the song Rock n roll, but sometimes they would switch it up. You can imagine how special (and nerve racking) this was for them, but also meaningful and important, so they took it very seriously. On the other hand, Robert Plant was not a fan of Zeppelin covers generally, especially Stairway to Heaven, but in this case it was easy to see it took on a different meaning for him, starting with the surprise of seeing Jason introduced on drums. You could see the ice melt as the warmth and glow of this performance overtook him with the alternative arrangement that revealed itself in layers with strings, horns, and the choir, 1st small then huge. The performance was masterfully built and layered to slowly take you by surprise. I love it. Brings a tear to my eye every time.❤

You need to check out Heart Crazy on you and Barracuda. live videos from the 70s. One of the best voices in rock
Best comment I've seen about this video - "you know you've done good when you've brought Robert Plant to tears".
Ann Wilson has always been a top interpreter of Zeppelin.
I saw Heart back in the 70s n their version of Zep’s Rock n Roll was 🔥!
Barracuda by Heart is a must. The original official video.
Ann Wilson has the greatest womans voice in rock-n-roll history !
No question about it and I'd put her in the top 10 overall and shes been doing it for decades.
The wildest thing is that her voice is getting better with age ❤
Heart has quite the song library... I bet there are songs in there that you know but you didn't know it was a Heart song. Many hits oh so many hits.... enjoy 😎 👍
That is the greatest cover song ever and the youngster in your group needs another look at that video... this time with a bit more respect. Taking the headphones off... not cool !
Just sit the song out next time ( off camera ) if its not for you. We all have different tastes in music ✌️😎
Nancy ❤ nailing every note with perfection as always as with Led Zeppelin looking down at you has gotta be tough... her voice was a little drowned I wish her mic was a bit higher but she was their next to Ann.
Jason Bonham doing his dad proud behind the drum kit... he could probably play that song in his sleep.
Who's the statue on the bottom of the screen with the red brick background. Joe Downer?
Heart has been Covering Led Zeppelin songs since the 70's .
I saw them do the Cover for Rock and Roll, and Black Dog in 1979...
Definitely should check out the entire tribute to them. starting with Jack Blacks introduction
I would love to see you guys react to Jack Black's full introduction to Led Zeppelin at this tribute. Great old video footage of Zep and hysterical verbal introduction.
Love your reactions but not sure what your waiting for to react to Heart. Great group as you could find out. Hopefully you guys go down Heart's rabbit hole soon. Maybe start with "Barracuda". Many songs to choose from.
Dudes!!! You must check out more Heart! From their 70s portfolio preferably! Barracuda, Magic Man, Crazy on You for starters :). Happy listening!!!!
You should dig into Heart's catalog starting with Barracuda 1977. ❤
Seeing John Bonham's son on drums is awesome. I love this version!
Before I hear one single beat of this rendition of Stairway let me say this is the greatest tribute to Classic rock ever. Thank you Obamas! BTW, you have heard Barracuda by Heart yes? Ann Wilson!!!!!
Love Ann's voice. Legendary ❤
You should watch the whole show
It’s amazing!!!
I don't know how many times I've watched this performance, but this won't be the last.
I'd recommend you guys check out Heart's ' Magic Man'
Heart has some great songs of their own, but they have also done some amazing Led Zeppelin cover songs like "Kashmir" and "Rock and Roll".
Have watched this performance many times, and it always brings me to tears. ❤
As I recall, Heart was an opening act for Led Zeppelin on Tour in the 1970s.
I've seen and heard this many times and, imho, it is THE best cover of any song by anyone, ever.
Heart is fantabulous. Great catelog of hits.
That guy had the cohones to play that lead, not in a guitar center, but in front of Jimmy page…Ann sang and Nancy played their hearts out, and Jason Bonham was on fire. And then the chorus …and then the choir in the bonham bowler hats……that’s the greatest cover ever…
