RIP Ryan Siew and Tom Searle, thanks for contributing to this list, and many others
Legends
You've forgot Diego Farias 🙏
My first 7 string is about to arrive and it's immediately going into drop G#
Why do drop g# when you can do drop g?
In all honesty, drop A is still the best 7 string tuning, although I reccomend playing in standard a bit to prepare you for having that string be a B when playing 8 string guitars.
@@shredgordon3240 well I've been playing 6 strings for almost 2 decades so I'm not a complete noob at guitar lol. I've become a big fan of Bodysnatcher and I love their sound. I think they are almost exclusively in drop G#. I love the sound of their tuning. Gonna write my own riffs in that tuning.
@@Nick-i9h as somebody who's mainly playing 7s, I recommend only switching between standard and drop and let the pitch shift do the rest. When you learn more and more songs from different bands, at some point you'll spend as much time tuning your guitar as actually playing it.
Don’t listen to that guy. Drop G# fuckin rips. Also I think Bodysnatcher is drop A, at least Death of me and Heavy Void are.
It's the only way bro
The Contortionist!!! That entire Exoplanet album slaps so hard. It's a masterpiece of progressive metal.
I miss them so much. Every record they've done has been a masterpiece.
Favorite G# riffs
Expiate by Erra
Outro riff of Motormouth by Periphery
Flatline by Periphery
No contortionist L
@@Creature1009 Ive only ever listened to language entirely and it’s a masterpiece. But I haven’t listened to much of their other stuff. I need to go through their discography so thanks for the reminder
Honestly both the price is wrong and motormouth slap to hell and back. All of my top 10 g# riffs would be periphery
The Contortionist mentioned 🔥
nigga they’re literally titans
The Abysmal Eye being in drop G# always throws me. I hear Meshuggah and my brain immediately thinks "F STANDARD," but there are more exceptions than I seem to remember, haha!
Great list, lots of banger riffs on here!
I honestly had no idea it was in Drop G# until this video
That breakdown riff in Make Total Destroy is my favourite riff of all time, it goes so hard!!!
Expected Whoa Shut It Down, got it, loved it. Nicely done!
BANDREW AENA DOES IT AGAIN
Kyle, if I only play at home 90% of the time and always get miked via PA, which would be better/more practical? The Invective MH, or PRS MT15? I'm on a strict $800 budget for both a head and cab
Drop G# Heaviest Riffs
0:52 Disposession
1:13 Early Grave
1:37 The Abysmal Eye
2:23 Whoa! Shut It Down
2:53 Limitless
3:16 Make Total Destroy
3:44 Infested
4:03 The Hammer
4:26 Primal Directive
4:42 Lucid
I can’t believe you made a drop G# video and didn’t include a single Erra riff. That’s borderline criminal. 🥺🥺
well I can't believe you didn't mention Acacia Strain
When u played Dispossession, i was hooked. Thank u for putting that on the list. I love that song
I would've gone with Flourish or Exoplanet II: Void for The Contortionist. Also Kaonashis We Got One or I Hate The Sound Of Car Keys would've been great additions to this list.
Goddamn that Acacia Strain was nasty
Hell yeah, primal directive. Love that contortionist album.
Also we need drop f# riffs next💥💥🗣🗣❗❗
I know so many good ones
Remember that Metallica once tuned down to this tuning
Invisible kid was the song
@@BrolyKenseigoku bingo
Fuck yeah, via era volumes. Sick
Bro really got the full periphery rig, the holcomb prs and the misha head lol
Architects- Early Grave is one of my favorite riffs ever
as a drop g# guy myself automatic thumbs up!
Would have loved to hear that ending riff from "The Mouth of the River" by The Acacia Strain on here. One of my favorite endings to a song. Not sure if it's the same tuning but it is nuts
'Scourge of Iron' by CC was the first riff I had in mind.
Drop G# sounds awesome!!!
Been listening to that new bodysnatcher nonstop, this was a sick collection of riffs, well done as always :)
Can confirm that Mark Holcomb SVN kicks a lot of ass
Mata Hari from Intervals has sick riffing too
The Acacia Strain uses drop g# on their newer material as well. “Birds of Paradise, Birds of prey” and “EARTH WILL BECOME DEATH” are standouts
FINALLY!! my 7 string is in drop G# but there's not a whole lot of songs i know in drop G#. i mainly keep it there so that tuning up to drop A is still feasible and i don't have to pitch shift too far to go lower
Disembodied, Acacia Strain, etc, etc. Fun tuning for sure🤘
I really like the outro riff of Beware by Deftones, it's simple but effective, and fun to play
g# standard
@@tfwnoyandere The riff can be played also in drop G#, but you're right, in Stephen's playthrough it's listed as G# standard
i suppose early grave was allowed in this video and that song is 7 string g# standard without the low c# so fair enough
Instant thumbs up for that Tortis riff from Exoplanet. LFG
Hell yeah, love the guitar too
I’ve thought about getting that new Mark Holcomb SVN as an addition to my collection. Sounds pretty damn good and crunchy.
Huge, Absolutego and Ganbouki by Boris are black hole smashing riffs in this tuning
literally my dream guitar, one day i will get one.
Banger list!
I personally would have gone with the intro riff to “Advent” from that Contortionist album, but still a good pick!
Baena bringing the heavy
NVLO, Deathcore from Argentina.
All of their songs are in Drop G#.
Give them a chance! 🇦🇷
Sick PRS!
I have this exact guitar, it feels so nice. But the man the pickups have so much treble
Love these vids man!!
TOP TIER MIX, MASTER AND GUITAR TONES!
Ice Nine Kills has a Drop G# song called Hip To Be Scared
I would’ve love to have seen an Impending Doom song but solid list overall. Especially Kublai Khan.
any riff from paleface swiss is probably my favorite G# riff tbh
Top 5 drop G# riffs
Down and dirty-Heaven Sent
Tasters - Justice
Memphis May Fire - legacy
Motionless in white - corpse nation
Down and dirty - Move it
The Polaris and Northlane riffs are goated
My two Ibanez RG 7 strings are in A Standard with that Drop G option!
Love Drop G#, my favorite riff to play in that tuning is probably B.C. by Kublai Khan
Drop G# is awesome, top 3 favorite tunings, it's a shame it seems to be overshadowed by drop A and G. Cool list! One of my favorite songs in G# is The Unfaithful by Memphis May Fire
One evening during highschool I tuned my 7 string guitar to drop G & played random mindless chug riffs. Mom asked "What the HELL IS HAPPENING😮???!!!"
25 years later I can only imagine how parents of today's teens feel about 8-10 string guitar chugging😂
Me personally, 8 is my limit. No disrespect to 9&10 string guitar lovers, its just too muddy for me.
3:29 don’t think I didn’t notice that cop out lollll
Most Car Bomb stuff seems to be in drop G#, although I think they do it on a baritone. Lights Out, Blackened Battery, and the Sentinel are all good contenders.
Drop ß heaviest guitar riffs when?
About 4 months ago haha!
@@BaenaCarcosa i wasnt referring to drop b, but i guess you arent metal enough to know about drop ß or drop §#
@@Elias-qj7dq you forgot about Drop Ü my dude.
@@FrancoW1 youre right, rookie mistake should have mentioned drop 肺衰竭 aswell
What about drop Q
My hands-down favorite tuning to play in!🤘🤘I always just called it Drop Ab tho. Eb Bb Gb Db Ab Eb Ab was way easier for my brain to process since you're basically just dropping standard down a half-step.
I FREAKING LOVE VOLUMES - VIA ALBUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!! inject that shit into my veins ❤❤❤❤
erra lights city or irreversible 🔥
drop g# truly is the og 7 string djent tuning
If only PRS released another 8 string model, it already looks and sounds sweet as a 7 string! 🤘😈
My favorite 7 string tuning
That guitar is my dream
Exoplanet riffs hit different
Choke by Bury Tomorrow and Indestructible by Wage War will always be in the top G# riffs
Early Grave slaps in drop G# tho
The pinch harmonic riff in Bodysnatcher - Twelve/Seventeen
I love F Flat!
i think The Wretched Inside by Trivium should be on the list of heaviest drop G# songs
2:54 11 years since a watch you guitar cover of this song haha
Yo that is so cool thank you for sticking around so long haha
I think Deftones song “bloody cape” should be an honorable mention
@ 2:53 yooo i remember your cover of limitless with taylor thomson and jt cavey from like 10 years ago.
you've gotten a lot better the past few years and i'm happy to see your progression.
That's so fucking cool to hear! Thank you :)
Burning Cupid by Disembodied is probably my favorite drop G# riff
Great video as always, but not including anything from Within the Ruins albums “Creature” was criminal.
I just bought a baritone acoustic, time to go to drop G and learn the funny Vildhjarta song
Feign - Neverest
Bodysnatcher - Death of Me (ft Darius of Spite)
Cavil - Driven Alone
Change Of Loyalty - Unexpected (ft. Sam Arrag)
Invent, Animate - Courier
Invent, Animate - Eventide
Inversa - Deixe Fluir (O Que Será de Mim)
Modern Day Babylon - Distant Skyline (feat. Chris Storey)
Monuments - 97 Static
Of Blackest Oceans - Dead Salt
SikTh - Under The Weeping Moon
TesseracT - Acceptance
TesseracT - Lament
Uneven Structure - Quittance
Within Destruction - D E A T H W I S H
Definitely could have used some Malevolence/self-titled I Declare War riffs 🤘
I play in a CGCGCD tuning. That is tuned a whole step down.
The new Kublai Khan is so hard!
My fave Drop G# riff is Desolation by Boris the Blade
While probably not "metal" enough for this channel. My favorite G# riff is A World Away by Tremonti.
The way it's mixed and when the two guitars come in. It's a "grimace with joyful disgust" riff.
Also, your Polaris tone might be better the the album. Polaris is a super heavy, Uber modern bad, and I get little to no low end in the guitars. Your rendition had the beef I miss in their guitar tone.
Good job.
Make Total Destroy is still such a goated riff.
Not having sworn in riffs is a crime
Remember kids, significant changes in tone come from the SPEAKER.
Only having one 7 string that has a Floyd rose but never being able to decide whether I like writing in drop F# or Drop G# is killing me. Lol
I got a multiscale 8 string on the way that I’ll have tuned to Drop D# though so that will at least allow me to get in the drop G# stuff when I want to.
i was hoping for another life by currents 🔥
Any song by the band I AM should be on this list
Norma jean and new he is legend have some fat g# riffs
Somebody call Nik Nokturnal, there’s been a robbery
Cymbals are ripping my ears apart. Sick riffs tho!
Let there be some primitive man songs! They use g# standart, but still💀💀💀
Those riffs from video do slap man
I have two 7 strings guitars. One in B Standard. One in drop G#. I always keep them that way.
Periphery - New Groove
Metallica - Invisible Kid
Korn - Alone I Break (G# Standard)
Love all these bands. But that Meshuggah rift is just so nasty. If i could play that i dont think i would ever leave my house.
the contortionist my beloved
Not sure the tuning, but how about some tony danza riffs
i knew kublai's the hammer had to be in here
You shouldve done that one riff from Fuf as a bonus
Who else went "B!tch" during the Hammer?
That Peavey ripppps
