    The best thing about Internet Historian is that he literally changes your viewpoint at the end. It's like he takes his non-copyright hands and molds your eyes to see something new.

    Went on the invisible children awareness march, and was inspired to support a Ugandan kid's eduction through a different charity.
    I think this guy did a lot of good even if he didn't handle fame well.

    I never knew that the ‘jacking in San Diego’ gag from that episode of South Park was based on the guy in this story. Funny at first, but really depressing when you get the full story.

      It's sorta like the whole deal with the grandma who got severely burned from McDonald's coffee (to the point of disfiguring her crotch) while sitting in her car. She was turned into a laughingstock by McDonalds to make future lawsuits like that viewed unfavorably and was parodied in the media as some greedy hag when all she wanted was just for them to cover the medical expenses from her surgeries.

    • @viktorbirkeland6520
      @viktorbirkeland6520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      yeah, she got done dirty, portrayed by most as just a money hungry old lady even though she literally did nothing wrong, and just wanted her medical bill covered! She didn't intend to get any "spending money", but McDonald's being a business, and American at that, of course didn't want to cover costs of anything... they literally left her no choice but to sue!
      And lots of stories like these are sad! It's like that funny video of the Russian reporter getting punched in the face on air by a drunk russian special forces guy! Hilarious video, until you find out that reporter killed himself! He was in his 20s... now, we can't be sure it was entirely because of the incident, but being ridiculed by the crude and cruel public, especially the media, who in 99% of cases just make everything worse, and often don't get things quite right, has to have some impact!
      I'm definitely guilty of judging people or thinking they're terrible, when that isn't even necessarily the case, just what the media wants us to think! One recent example I can think of when it comes to this, is the Israel situation! Yes, no side is innocent, but the media literally makes it out to look like there are these people who want nothing but the destruction of all of Israel, while these poor Israelite people are just trying to live their lives, but are unable to because of this enormous threat they face! And that any criticism of Israel is instantly antisemitic, which means you can only criticise one side, leading to the discussion being inherently lopsided...
      (Had to edit my comment because any mention of a certain people in the middle east, who are denied the right by Israel to exist, automatically gets removed because of a filter! It starts with P)

      @@syaondri yeah we covered it in lawschool as well in the Netherlands. It was quite horrible. The injuries were horrible and McDonalds had been warned numerous times they served their coffee WAY to hot. Additionaly, and this is something that seems foreigh to European people who study law, US law uses such civil claims as a means to punish the company.
      So when you hear something like this where a disproportionate amount of money is claimed or given, its usually because they intend to punish the liable company and not that they think the injury or whatever is worth that much. When you look at it from that perspective, super high amounts become more reasonable because otherwise a big company wouldnt even feel it.

      Well to be fair, he also had never planned for the video to get almost 100 times the amount of attention he was actually aiming for, and it was impossible to predict it would blow up this much. It cracks me up to this day watching that compilation of news anchors. Leave it to the privileged to pretend that a criminal running around with guns murdering people for power is a “wildly complex” issue. Then you have the Ugandan PM using his time to respond to TH-cam videos instead of protecting his citizens.

    • @iisusvoryvzakone7345
      @iisusvoryvzakone7345 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is a complex issue. It's dificult to understand from the point of view of the west with police patrols everywere and sourounded with cameras but this are failed states, the PM can't control all his territory, he doesn't have the resources and he knows more than a rich kid from California that went to Africa to post photos of poverty in his instagram to get laid. Ok, you kill Koni, beeing generous cause he can be anywhere hiden in the jungle or in other countries and is protected by an army. Then what? someone is gonna take his place. These places are such a hornet nest that even US that spend in his military more than the rest of the world combined has been kicked the shit out from one of these places.

    • @greasey8695
      @greasey8695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@iisusvoryvzakone7345
      You yourself have no idea if the PM is actually doing as much as he could be, or the threat posed by Kony’s successors. You’re also pretending to know Jason’s secret motivations, to essentially say that raising awareness about awful living conditions is a bad thing, and we should just let kids suffer in silence.

    • @iisusvoryvzakone7345
      @iisusvoryvzakone7345 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@greasey8695 It's in his own interest to end up with Koni for the "it's an african country and if I am deposed maybe I'm executed thing". It seems that the LRA is weaker than it was and has retreated to the jungle, we don't really know, US sended 100 soldiers with the latest tecnology to track the group, they failed. And Jason's motivations are clear for anyone that has eyes to see, he has collected millions to resolve an issue that he can't do anything about, Congo, Uganda, US, the UN, the Interpol can't do anything about it. This awareness it's just his bussines.
