Choosing where to live in Vienna should depend on what activities you want to accomplish during your stay in Vienna. In 1971-72, I was a young music student and spent a year studying at the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. The school found me a room rental living with a hausfrau - it was about 3-4 blocks behind the Rathaus and not far from the Votivkirche. I could easily walk to the Ringstrasse and take the strassebahn or walk through the city center on the weekends to go to the music school. Because of this location, I was able to see evening concerts, all in standing room, of over 50 operas in the Staatsoper and over 50 concerts in the Musikverein.. It was a short walk to catch the strassebahn and get to the musical event. It was the best musical year of my life. If I were living further out in other districts, I would have not been able to see so many musical events. Thanks for the video. Vienna is an amazing city with world-class music, art and culture.
Great video! I was lucky enough to be born and raised here, sometimes you kinda forget how great this place is. I love cycling and the possibilities I have here are insane. Wienerwald for hills, if I want to ride the flat it takes me 2 minutes to ride to the Donaukanal and from there start multiple routes without any motor vehicles. You can ride all the way to the German border without having to use a road. I wish we had more months of good weather though.
Thank you! ❤ I hear that a lot from locals. I talk to people about how great is this and that, and very often they are like... "oh yeah, that is true. I did not think about this much." Vienna is a special place and I love to celebrate that.😊
As a university student from Turkey, I took an interrail trip last summer. I stayed in Vienna for 3 days 4 nights and it was awesome. The preserved old architecture mixed with modernity, the cleanliness of the public parks, functional public transport, amazing events at both day and night, great cuisine... There's no city like Vienna in Europe, that's for sure, even if it's a bit expensive. Maybe Prague and Budapest could be competitors to it. I'm hoping to come to Vienna again for pursuing a masters degree in TU Wien. Thanks for the very informative video! I'm glad TH-cam recommended this video and your channel to me ✋ Subscribed hoping to see more of your content
A while back I asked you about an advice for cycling up Kahlenberg. Since then, I went probably 50 times! I just love your area! I'm in 7th, it's great - but it's totally not green :)
Could you please break down additional monthly costs when owning a studio or a 1-bedroom apartment in Vienna? Such as heating, water, electricity, taxes, maintenance, operating costs, condominium fees, garbage disposal, etc... Thank you! :D
I would say it probably depends on the city. There is a lot to do in Vienna, so even though I live near the border I also appreciate the good connection to the city center I have. I wouldn’t like to live totally outside of that.
@@TomaszJakubKusienicki Best of both worlds is optimal of course. I live in Vienna too but very close to the centre. Only been here for a year so far but the intense city isn’t for me, but everyone‘s different.
Thomas, you are a very clever man, you have prioritized quality of life over appearances or snobbery. If you could live in Austria I would choose your district. Having said that I heard that life in Salzburg is even nicer and better than Wien. What do you think? I expect to visit both cities in September/October
Hi, I really don’t know, never been there. 😅 I have only visited Traunsee which is nearby and it was one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever visited, however I have heard that Salzburg is quite expensive place to live in, especially considering that the job market is smaller than the one in Vienna.
@@TomaszJakubKusienicki Thank you for the information. Anyway, I would only move to Austria, or the north of Italy, the land of my ancestors if I win the lottery (😂😂) As you may guess I am not wealthy and at 60 I do not want to work anymore, so I will carry on buying lottery tickets! LOL 😁😁Have a nice weekend!
y know what, I kinda like the other districts more than those most popular ones... like, yeah, those are iconic, but they are so everywhere, so packed with tourists, so expensive... I mean, I am sure a 25 euro Schnitzel is super high quality and delicious, but why would I waste so much money on sth that is gone from me the next day lol... when I can buy cheaper food elsewhere and for the rest of the money I can explore, or buy stuff I actually want or need :) and yeah, I would like to live in Vienna, once I get a job there (which might be hard cos my German sucks and finding sth English only might not be easy)... and since the transport is easy to access pretty much anywhere, I wouldnt be picky :) well, maybe some of the newer Ottakring and Funfhaus parts dont look that appealing to me, but otherwise, every district and subdistrict has its own charm and nice spots :) I know that cos I walked across them all and still discovering some nice new places :) hell, even Albern with its agriculture, industry and not much else has a bit of a charm, if you know where to look and appreciate even smaller things :)
Hi, totally fair points. I think this is a matter of personal preference that is also influenced by overall life situation of the person. People who have kids might for example care more about access to playgrounds and good public schools than others and so on. I personally love living in 19th, but I would probably prefer a different neighborhood in my twenties. 😊 Good luck with your plans!
@@TomaszJakubKusienicki Dobling is pretty nice, and since it is also home of a lot of residences of diplomaths, I can imagine also quite secure :D also, a funny story regarding my exploration of Grinzing - for some reason I had thought Einbahn will direct me to the nearest train station :D only when I made a nice roundabout around Grinzing I realized, hang on, it must mean one way street loool :D also, in summer, when walking around Donauinsel, don't go too far south, trust me :D you dont want to :D
Hi, I am learning, however I am still very bad at this 😅. I work in English. My wife too. You can definitely live in Vienna without knowing German as long as you work in the industry that is very international. Most people speak good English (EF Education First actually ranked Austria third on their 2022 EF English proficiency index), however IMHO to really integrate with locals you should learn German.

The western part of the 23rd is also a very nice place to live in!
True. I don't know this district very well, however I've heard that it is very nice there. It's a pity that it is so far from the city center.
I recommend visiting Setagaya Park while in Döbling, a lovely park
Thank you, I have been there many times. It is really lovely even though it is quite tiny. ☺️

Yes, I think the whole north-west border of Vienna has this vibe
You have to know that you have a lot of money or big luck to be able to live in the 19th district.
Yes, that is fair. I am aware that not everyone is able to afford living in this neighborhood and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to do so.
