Sadly that’s a risk with a lot of appetite suppressants because there’s no desire to eat or drink anything. The body can become severely dehydrated which can cause kidney failure. I don’t think that doctors are stressing the importance of adequate hydration throughout the day

Same happened to me. But I stopped taking Ozempic. I woke up one night and for 3 hours was vomiting. I'm on Rybelsus, which I feel is a better drug. These drugs DO help with diabetes getting the A1c down and causing you to lose your taste for food. But you have to eat in moderation and drink water, lots of water.
I worked in endocrinology and the risks were ALWAYS discussed with patients. Millions of patients are losing weight without side effects. Some will have side effects. Patients need to weigh whether the risks outweigh the benefits.
Exactly. My doctor is pushing it but after doing my research I think it would not be a good fit. I am gonna try the good old fashion way one more time before I consider other options. I think it is a decision that people need to make for themselves.
I have been on Ozempic for a year now. It has lowered my A1C and I lost a little weight from it. Mainly due to my not being able to eat anything without feeling nauseous. Stomach pain was horrible the first few months. I learned that you have to take some kind of fiber or stool softener to keep the bowels moving on this med. it is doing what it was created to do, slow your digestion down so you feel full all the time. So it is important to make sure you are regular. It is scary to think about the possible side effects as it just hasn’t been tested enough. I feel for this poor woman.
I took Ozempic for four weeks at the lowest dose and it was amazing: Ozempic turned off the constant food noise in my head therefore I could get things done because my mental energy was not being used to fight against the food-calls and then losing the battle and then eating and then brushing/flossing my teeth/ Ozempic broke this vicious cycle for me. Hallelujah for these drugs. I lost one pound in one month. It stopped my weight from going up: My weight was snowballing prior to Ozempic. I'm so sad for what happened to this lady. I'm glad she is still alive and I hope she will be able to adjust to her body challenges. She has a wonderful and loving family to help her through.
sorry, but if you have to rely on drugs with drastic side effects to lose weight; there's an issue. The only healthy way is to eat a good diet and exercise regularly. Anything else is the easy way out. Like someone once said ,"it's not what you are eating, it's what's eating you"
People are not eating enough protein and too many carbs. This is what finally worked for me. At least 90 grams of protein a day. None of the high fat diets worked. It's such a relief to finally have peace in my head and seeing my body transorming every day. I hope this helps someone.
@@ericmartin9569 Here is the report of Lisa Marie’s death :Lisa Marie Presley, 54, died in hospital in California on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Calabasas home. She was clean from 17 until 2008, when she became addicted to opioids after the birth of her twin daughters. Lisa was also using opioids; which causes severe constipation, and can also cause paralytic illius. That was on autopsy.
I’m wondering if she had been having regular bowel movements or was having constipation. There are a lot of unanswered questions here as to what happened and just happening out of nowhere with no symptoms kind of seems odd.
I actually read the ENTIRE medication leaflet and took it anyway. Those risks and the many TH-cam videos I watched kept haunting me so I stopped after the 3rd dose and just threw the pen away. I will give this credit to Ozempic though - it stopped the food noise COMPLETELY. No nagging plotting and planning on how my nightly snack binge was going to go. No obtrusive thoughts on how to plan my drive home so I could stop at this store and that store to pick up the snacks I wanted. No working like a mad lady in the gym in an attempt to outrun the snackage. No more 15 piece Wingstop plus a 2pc order of chicken strips and fries every week. Life started to flow naturally and I felt normal and free from the bondage of food for the first time since the 1990's. I'm struggling the old fashioned way now because I don't want to have one of those bags attached to my body. As a matter of fact, I'm snacking on popcorn and macaroons right now. Sigh. 😩
@@MNP208 Yes. Many patients don’t read all of the insert. It’s long, but it’s worthwhile. I’ve experienced too many side effects from new medications so I read them. I never took any of the weight loss medications. They’re too expensive and I didn’t want to risk the issues that I had read about.
@@MNP208 Also, one's PCP (or prescribing dr) should go over potential side effects and risks AND have regular checkups (usually monthly or every 3 months depending on one's health issues and co-morbidities) as well as regular bloodwork. All issues are discussed, along with weigh-ins, at these regular check ups! Any responsible dr should also discuss the importance of proper water/ protein/ electrolyte/calorie intake and exercise. These meds are tools to be used WITH lifestyle changes, not cure-alls while ignoring the instructions that are CLEARLY written on the packaging, company websites, as well as discussed with qualified physicians who are informed on these meds. in addition, each of the companies that produce these meds (including compound pharmacies) have easily accessible telephone numbers if you have ANY questions about the meds that you feel your physician didn't answer to your satisfaction. There are also countless support groups and videos on-line that, if used with common sense, offer helpful tips on does and donts. I am very sorry that she (or any one) suffered such severe side effects, but her lawsuit is unlikely to be very successful because her specific issue IS discussed on ALL of information put out by the companies and SHOULD have been discussed by her dr. before she was Rx'd them. My beef would be with the physician who, IMO, is the one who failed her. PS: Constipation is a common side effect. CALL YOUR DR AND ASK FOR HELP if you don't poop for a week!!!! Common sense here, folks! Her issue, most likely (barring a pre-existing or previously undiagnosed issue), could ave been avoided. Sad.

All drugs have side effects. There are a handful of serious cases like this out of 15,000,000 users. The vast, vast majority of people taking these drugs have been able to lose significant weight after countless other techniques failed. Most insurance plans will not cover GLP-1s unless the patient has demonstrated significant effort to lose weight by other means. The comments here about "shortcuts" and comparisons to other drugs like opioids are alarmingly myopic. The risk-benefit ratio is very low.
I took Trulicity for about a month and a half. I had nausea most of the time. I felt super weak. Putting my clothes one day I suddenly had screaming pain in my gut, fell over screaming in God awful pain. A month later I almost passed out in the shower, barely making it out without a fall, then projectile vomiting. Studies are often run on the manufacturer’s money.
How do i get in on the lawsuits? I'm now on a feeding tube for life due to severe gastroparesis. There is no warning for that. The complications aren't as rare as they try to say.
GLP-1 drugs are known to increase the risk of developing gastroparesis. Pharmacists and doctors are aware of it, and should do their due diligence to avoid its use in that population (those who have it or those who have a family history). Of course, with any new drugs on the market, there's still more research and clinical trials being done even after the drug is FDA approved and comes to market. And some side effects don't come into play further down the line. New findings might come to light with more long-term studies.
My mom died of as stroke due to hers. She just wanted to finally be thin. Eventually....she was. THAT wasn't worth it. (NOT ozempic, earlier drugs) I have digestive difficulties already. It doesn't sound like an "answer" yet. The pandemic took nearly 100 lbs off me. Im now playing whack a mole with symptoms. Damaged heart and kidneys. It wasn't what I as eating....it was what I wasn't eating. Protein. we could not get protein. a variety of expired baked goods and sandwiches, rice ceral, pasta. Canned soup. It as all they had at the food bank. Protein as a SCARCE commodity. So was insulin. Hospitals filled with covid patients, they couldn't take the time to make sure the homeless had INSULIN. No money no help, no discussion. i will spend what is left of my life on multiple medications to extend it. Yes fruits veggies lean protein....NOw. I won't touch the things I had to eat. There is another angle of perception to that. IF I ould have been thin when I became homeless I would not have survived. I survived as long as I did living off my excess. There's a purpose for it, I suppose. My body is not a "fashion accessory" it is a machine to keep me alive. So far it's fought for me sacrificed itself for me....I' taking care of it now.
It is good you know what keeps you healthy the food to eat etc Eggs and beans and rice are a good source of protein when eaten together less expensive too. God bless you!🙏✝️🌸
It is stated right on the labels that it can cause gastroparesis. That has been on the label the whole time. People just still take it. Also, people who are overweight and have diabetes or pre-diabetes are already predisposed to gastroparesis.
this same thing happened to the friend of a coworker. But that woman took the same diet pills that Anna Nicole Smith endorsed. But the pills killed her intestines and esophagus.
Unpopular opinion, I'm sure: but unless you are morbidly obese, I think it's better to have some extra weight then going through the terrible side effects of these drugs. It's just not worth it. Just take the best care of yourself at your weight, eat properly, get plenty of rest, drink lots of water and make sure to stay active. It's all better than this kind of outcome.
Well, just about every commercial I see for those weight loss drugs they have warnings. Don’t take it if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients, but then you may not know you’re allergic to them until you take the drug.
These drugs have many risks, and I’ve seen them first hand as an RN at the bedside: Thyroid cancer, bowel obstruction, paralysis of the gut (gastroparesis), severe dehydration, kidney damage, and severe retching that caused acute bleeding of a gastric ulcer. And the chronic nausea never gets better unless you stop taking the drug. The pill form has the same risks. These drugs actually slow your gut’s movement, also causing horrific constipation. It’s really not worth it.
Same here, in addition, they were pts who reported muscle wasting, suicidal ideation, and low blood sugar. Protein intake, adequate hydration and exercise should be meticulously implemented on a day to day basis to minimize the possible long-term detrimental effect of these drugs.
@@Chikito12826 oh my doc would never approve it. I have a history of depression. I don’t need something that could make me more depressed. I do pretty well with my treatment now. I’ll just try a normal diet.
Not worth it to you. I'm an RN who is taking Wegovy and have dropped 20lbs so far. I know many people who take them and have no issues. Everyone knows the risk that comes with taking these medications and for most the benefits out weigh them. This drug is a miracle for many of us.
I'm a diabetic on insulin, and I refuse to take these drugs after reading about the known side effects. I'm stunned anyone would use them for weight loss.
What do you mean you refuse? is someone forcing you do take them? if your diabetes is under control with your current medication you clearly dont need it.
My doctor asked me if I wanted either of these drugs, and she mentioned it so casually because she had other patients asking for it and wanted to know if it was something I was interested in. This was during a follow up about my thyroid treatment and management. I was too caught off guard to say anything then, but I'm honestly uncomfortable at how easily our doctors can just throw this out to us without considering a more serious discussion or waiting for the patient to bring it up.
So very glad I trashed my Ozempic without even using it after reading up on the horrible side effects! I would rather be fat than f*@# up my digestive system!
Until this happens to Oprah, Gayle and Kelly Clarkson, the company will keep denying there are any problems. Didn't anyone learn from the opioid tragedy?
Yep , this can happen. The drug slows down the entire digestive tract and that can be bad. I’m on serious laxatives to prevent this and I still struggle with the constipation.
Diet & and exercise is the safest way. Lost a total of 38lbs ( 20lbs the first month) I dont eat ultraprocessed foods, don't drink alcohol, eat whole foods, drink lots of water. Everyone's different but vegan diet/ no ultra processed works for me. Hope this lady wins in court
It's for people who have existing severe conditions and extreem heath problems and will die without the drug. Its no a joke or for people who could loose the weight but are just to lazy.
Same. Though i workout at home because of my job schedule. I have a weight limit. If i reach 140 lbs i cut my calorie intake and do 12-15 hour intermittent fasting (3-4 times a week). Exercise 45 min to 1 hour 3-4 times a week. There will come a time that i will stop all these and gain weight, then repeat!
I was taking Wegovy which was fine at the lower dose. Once I started a higher dose I experienced horrible acid reflux and constipation. I stopped the drug immediately. I did lose 19 pounds but the side effects for me isn't worth the risk.
My healthcare facility will only prescribe these to people who have prediabetic A1C and above due to side effects. Also, once you start these, you must take them forever or the weight will come back. These "easy" weight loss methods don't address the reasons for eating habits that cause obesity. I know people who did bariatric surgery and are back to their old weightsbecause eating habits did not change. I am NOT addressing weight gain caused by medical conditions like drug side effects, lymphedemia, etc.. In those cases, these drugs csn be life savers.
There is no short cut to weight loss. Diets do not work because they are temporary. You must do a lifestyle change. You must change your relationship with food and add exercise to your daily routine even if it is just a short walk. This is truly the only way to permanent weight loss.
Have you ever been overweight? 95% of people on diets fail at keeping off the weight for more than a couple of years. Why is that? Is it because they are weak or is there something else going on? Did you know they did a sturdy on the show the biggest loser? They took a man who weighed 250lbs and never dieted. They compared him to a man who weighed about 500lbs and went on biggest loser and lost 250lbs. The heavy man struggle to kept the weight off. He stayed on a lower calorie diet than the normal weight man. The study found that even after two years the heavy many could not eat the same calories as the normal weight man without gaining weight. So, point is that it is not calories in calories out and as many people believe. It is very complex. My heart goes out to all the people who struggle with the disease of obesity.

"The labels weren't enough"......well, the labels MUST be approved by the FDA before the drug can be marketed, so apparently FDA had decided they were enough. She's not going to win this lawsuit. Also, she's not taking any responsibility for her own decisions or actions. Your doctor will push drugs on you, but it's up to you to decide whether it's absolutely necessary for you to take them. There are no safe drugs.
Just because she didn’t read the risks doesn’t negate her responsibility to do so. Her weight and diabetes predisposition already made her a ticking time bomb, so it’s a bit disingenuous to blame the drug. It’s a serious decision to try these meds and are a last resort for many patients such as this woman, but they aren’t perfect. The risk:benefit ratio has to be considered as well as self-monitoring for side effects.
All drugs have a side issue. Not just in rare cases but as a norm of medications. So yes taking crap for non medical issues have REAL RISK!!! Like weight loss surgeries, medications, under eating or obesity all come with risks. So take accountability and stop trying to play stupid.

I had a bad reaction to a non opioid analgesic once, so? why is this news? side effects are part of any drug treatment and the rare ones will be apparent only after the drug is approved and commercialized. That's why post marketing surveillance studies exist.

I think people need to realize this is MEDICINE not just a magical drug. You need to treat it and your body like you’re taking an actual drug.
That is from dehydration and is preventable.
@@americangirl8970 some meds make ppl incredibly nauseous - even from liquids. Sometimes immediate medical intervention is necessary
EXACTLY!
Exactly. My doctor is pushing it but after doing my research I think it would not be a good fit. I am gonna try the good old fashion way one more time before I consider other options. I think it is a decision that people need to make for themselves.
I've been on all kinds of drugs. None of my doctors discussed side effects.
What is your starting dosage and has it increased since you started
🤦🏼♀️Wow… Having to rely on a medication to help you with a health problem… That’s just CRAZY. 🤦🏼♀️
So you could have just gone on a diet... But you had no willpower. Lol
One pound in one month?? You can lose a pound a week with the right support and discipline.
Supposedly Lisa Marie Prestley was using it and died from small intestine blockage and necrosis.
@@ericmartin9569
Here is the report of Lisa Marie’s death :Lisa Marie Presley, 54, died in hospital in California on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Calabasas home. She was clean from 17 until 2008, when she became addicted to opioids after the birth of her twin daughters.
Lisa was also using opioids; which causes severe constipation, and can also cause paralytic illius.
That was on autopsy.
These risks have been described and discussed everywhere…until it happens to you
I’m wondering if she had been having regular bowel movements or was having constipation. There are a lot of unanswered questions here as to what happened and just happening out of nowhere with no symptoms kind of seems odd.
These medications caused very negative reactions for me as well. I’m very afraid of these medications.
It's not a joke medicine it's for people who will die without weight loss.
I wonder what strength she was on.
Only 1,000,000 mg 😲
That’s what these stories always fail to mention. “So quickly and with no warning”.
They do tell you this can happen 🤦🏻♀️
Poor diet, lack of discipline, lack of exercise is rampant in her family. Most people can lose weight if they have the discipline
Sigh. 😩
I’m so glad I saw this. Thanks for covering this story.
I was this close as well to trying these drugs under the idea that if I didn't have any complications -- at first, I could be fine.
I hadn’t heard of this type of complication but I knew that the drugs could cause permanent damage.
If you read the medication package insert, you would know about them.
I know she regrets it now, but I still feel bad for her.
Sad.
I'd still take it. I've yet to take medication without a long list of possible side effects.
RIGHT. LOL ALL MEDS HAVE ALOT OF SIDE EFFECTS. ALL THEM
😢 🙏🏾 💐 It's not easy living without all of your intestines, and people just never seem to understand that. I'm a colon cancer survivor who's had teo surgeries years ago, but it can be a bit depressing at times because you notice the change in your bathroom trips and usage times.
I have gasteroporiesis i wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm diabetic but I can't use it because of my GI disease.
My sister was recently diagnosed with diabetes and was put on Ozempic. Has suffered NOTHING of the symptoms. It depends on the individual
Even correct information and warnings on these drugs isn’t going to stop ANYONY from wanting them.
I'm shocked Gayle even commented on this. She looks like she's taking it along with Oprah.
I was thinking the same thing!
Clearly Gayle and her bestie Oprah are a whole lot thinner than they have been for years. Perhaps a little more honesty would be appropriate.
The whole world knows.
Yikes! That poor woman!!
I think the interviewee would have taken the medication even if she knew the side effects. We often try risky options and hope for the best.
Please Sue !!!
Shouldn’t they do routine colonoscopy’s on this drug to study damage!?
Thank you for this story.
How do i get in on the lawsuits? I'm now on a feeding tube for life due to severe gastroparesis. There is no warning for that. The complications aren't as rare as they try to say.
Sorry to hear your results Can you tell us more like your dosage and what you did while on it etc
yeah right
GLP-1 drugs are known to increase the risk of developing gastroparesis.
New findings might come to light with more long-term studies.
when did ozempic suddenly becomes a weight loss drug? It always meant to control your blood sugar.
It is good you know what keeps you healthy the food to eat etc
Eggs and beans and rice are a good source of protein when eaten together less expensive too. God bless you!🙏✝️🌸
Jesus HEAL YOU like you healed me
It is stated right on the labels that it can cause gastroparesis.
That has been on the label the whole time. People just still take it. Also, people who are overweight and have diabetes or pre-diabetes are already predisposed to gastroparesis.
I've seen a few video's of this happening! Those patients lost their life :(
this same thing happened to the friend of a coworker.
I know several people that have had complications from this drug.
I've lost my hair from taking it. I hope it grows back since I have stopped taking it.
This is so scary 😮 I don't understand the drug and why it does all that
you MUST EXERCISE and WORKOUT while taking these medications!!!! that's the issue!
Well, just about every commercial I see for those weight loss drugs they have warnings. Don’t take it if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients, but then you may not know you’re allergic to them until you take the drug.
NO‼️ I took it twice for uncontrolled diabetes for a short time, extreme nausea. Encouraged by physician second try! Gastroparesis. NEVER AGAIN ‼️
I feel for these people. Society/culture values appearance far too much
These drugs have many risks, and I’ve seen them first hand as an RN at the bedside:
Thyroid cancer, bowel obstruction, paralysis of the gut (gastroparesis), severe dehydration, kidney damage, and severe retching that caused acute bleeding of a gastric ulcer.
Wow. Macy Grey was publicly sharing that her constipation and stomach pain from these sent her to the ER.
@@bzh7648you won't be depressed when that weight falls off.
I'm a diabetic on insulin, and I refuse to take these drugs after reading about the known side effects. I'm stunned anyone would use them for weight loss.
I'm Type 2 and been on it 3 Month's. I'm okay but I might stop after watching this just in case I lost 50 pounds
Insulin…..pick your poison
What do you mean you refuse? is someone forcing you do take them? if your diabetes is under control with your current medication you clearly dont need it.
These medications are about money. Thats all
My doctor asked me if I wanted either of these drugs, and she mentioned it so casually because she had other patients asking for it and wanted to know if it was something I was interested in. This was during a follow up about my thyroid treatment and management. I was too caught off guard to say anything then, but I'm honestly uncomfortable at how easily our doctors can just throw this out to us without considering a more serious discussion or waiting for the patient to bring it up.
Discipline and time. That's what is lacking in this generation. You don't need to curb your appetite. You need discipline and the right support.
There are millions of people literally safe and doing great on these drugs.
@@HLpC4495 Until they aren't.
Yep , this can happen. The drug slows down the entire digestive tract and that can be bad. I’m on serious laxatives to prevent this and I still struggle with the constipation.
That is way I lost the weight on my own, lost over 100lb im now 185
Good for you!!🎉🎉
Yay you!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Whats the context please. What was the dose?
It’s waste of money buying drugs to lose weight.
Did she start taking the drugs BEFORE they told everyone of the side effects because I’ve seen the side effects stated EVERYWHERE they market it🤷🏽♀️
It's for people who have existing severe conditions and extreem heath problems and will die without the drug. Its no a joke or for people who could loose the weight but are just to lazy.
Wow. Not worth it. I’ll continue working out at the gym and do better with my eating habits.
LEAVE THOSE WEIGHT LOSS DRUGS ALONE
I was taking Wegovy which was fine at the lower dose. Once I started a higher dose I experienced horrible acid reflux and constipation. I stopped the drug immediately. I did lose 19 pounds but the side effects for me isn't worth the risk.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
What meds don’t have side effects? What’s the side effect of remaining obese?
Well duh!!!! There is no easy fast fix when it comes to losing weight. 🤦🏼♀️.
There are so many online doctors sounding these warnings that there's no excuse for not being aware if you want to know.
Smh…she’s suing?!? Like she had to take it. Ridiculous. I’m sure she didn’t read the insert. I’m sure it’s somewhere in the fine print.
So it wasn’t her age, or her diabetes? how long was she on them?
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m in the same position and was wondering about these drugs. But now NO WAY. I don’t want to live with a colostomy bag from the rest of my life.
Apparently there is no food shortage yet
I went carnivore instead of doing these drugs because the side effects were way less terrifying. So far, so good.
There are side effects to everything even eating extreme diets. Carnivore has given many people heart attacks.
I bounced back and forth between carnivore and keto and it has made my life great since 2020. Tried to get hubby on it and he said no way he passed away 2 years ago. I would never take this crazy drugs and all my prescriptions are basically gone.
@@debbiebeam8395 I got tired of taking drugs that created more issues and had worse side effects than what I was dealing with in the first place. I was on 7 different meds and now I’m down to 2- and only two months into my carnivore journey. I’d rather feel great before something takes me than feel like absolute 💩. 🤷♀️
Uh oh. She’s supposed to do healthy things. The side effects are sometimes bothering her.
the lawsuits are without merit all medications have risk
Is there a way to prevent this???
I work in a pharmacy. Those warnings are on the patient information label that comes with the package. You MUST read the small print. Folks don't do their homework. Most just believe a stupid commercial.
Nobody listens to the side effects.
I mean…. It is a side effect… there are side effects people
Horrible 😢
Omg a part of her large intestine DIED?!?! Smh see ppl say oh I love it but they don’t talk about how it constipates you BADLY. I was on it for 4mths. I went from extremely regular (2 sometimes 3 bms a day) to barely 1 every 3 days and it was hard! I stopped the medication bc of this I did not want to end up with stomach paralysis! It’s been a year and I’m still not back to how regular I was before but it’s better than when I was on it. I was on Ozempic.
I have good success with fasting. I love Dr. Jason Fung’s TH-cam channel.
No drug or supplement is risk free.
I want some ozempic for myself
Congratulations 👏! You have just won 🏆 a lifetime supply!!! 🤓
I had a bad reaction to a non opioid analgesic once, so? why is this news? side effects are part of any drug treatment and the rare ones will be apparent only after the drug is approved and commercialized. That's why post marketing surveillance studies exist.
