- This is my Netflix Series Review for The Gentlemen.
From Guy Ritchie, The series follows Eddie Halstead, who has inherited his father's sizeable estate only to discover that it's sitting on top of a weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson. Has this straight-up soldier got what it takes to master the dark arts of the British criminal underworld and take control of the entire operation? It stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, and more.

This is my The Gentlemen Netflix Series Review
i think it’s really funny that Uncle Stan sells meth just like his Breaking Bad counterpart.
Gustavo Fring, with a T
Lol I literally laughed out loud when it was revealed in the show that he sells meth
@@nudenuder3842 me and my dad watched Breaking Bad together, then we decided to watch the Gentlemen. As soon as this got revealed we just looked at each other with the biggest smile 😂😂
You can take Esposito out of Breaking Bad, but you can’t take Breaking Bad out of Esposito 😅
His counterpart had some Salamanca problem
It didn’t feel like a Netflix show, which is a HUGE compliment
Great point
Netflix's been stuck-up in the woke department for years, it's nice to see they are finally able to get out of the brain-fog and produce something good for once.
I think they had to learn the hard way not to just give people money to make a TV show and to hire quality people and oversee the productions. Doesn't feel like it was written by AI either.
@@sneakerjuice1856okay lol
This is the best live action tv show i've seen in years. It's utter genius!
You should watch FX's Mr In-between if you think this is genius
@@mgiebus1869 Cool. I'll look out for it. Cheers for the heads up.
Yeah really, you should check out Mr. Inbetween
“It’s been emotional” that lock stock and two smoking barrels reference at the end by Susie
Yes😂😂I'm glad ìts not just me who caught that 😂😂
Genuinely one of the best Guy Ritchie features he’s done. Massive props to him and the team he put together on this
Exactly what I thought. It really felt like he had total freedom to do everything he wanted without any time constraints. I loved it!
I loved working for this show! Making weed props and on set for a few weeks
Really? Excellent writing , acting and a dedicated team . Many thanks .
@@eahannan I was only working with the art department after creating the weed props :)
I really enjoy the movie from a few years back, so this had my interest. Did I really think this NEEDED to be made? Probably not, but I still had a lot of surface level fun with it. Tons of big style, quirky characters, and fun heists. I will happily welcome more episodes. Great review as always, AB!
Yeah I hope this one doesn’t get cancelled haha
"surface level fun", couldn't agree more
I can’t believe the movie came out 5 years ago! Where does the time go!?!?!
For real!
COVID, man. That whole period made time fly.
Am I the only guy watching this taking notes on the fashion in this series? Loved all the suits worn by the duke. I even emailed the costume designer and Gus Frings suits and the dukes were all made by suit supply on Vigo street. Wouldn’t have guessed that.
On the tv series the only negative is it felt red conned from the film. It should have been Matthew’s business but The glass fam8y we’re working for him and should have at least Ray’s character in it to link it. That’s my only miner gripe.
Nah I don’t think so maybe it’ll b a cross over
I like the suits as well
Suit supply? As in the company with all the locations, or a different place with the same name?
@@SpencerMedici sorry for late reply yes the suit supply company on Vigo street.
That scene in the basement in episode 4 had me dying!
The show is ritchies best work imo. And i love snatch, lock stock, gentlemen, sherlock. This has such a vibe, its very good
Indeed
Mickey Pearson doesn't die (or appeat) in this series. The character, that resembles him, is Bobby Glass. The guy, who dies (played by the amazing Edward Fox) was one of the aristocrats, wo rented out parts of their estates for Bobby's Plantations. In the movie, the character, that resembles him, is played by Samuel West.
I would love to see your take on the Fargo series next! I haven't seen you do a single season review so I'm curious
What's to say? Fargo the series is abysmal and insult to the film.
@@basicfilmblog I didn’t enjoy every season I thought season 1-3 were excellent for example. Season 4 had good elements but overall it flopped and season 5 I thought again had good elements but overall was “meh”. Still I would have liked him to review it wether or not he thinks it’s good or bad
@@basicfilmblogthe first 3 seasons of Fargo are incredible. I really enjoyed the 5th as well.
Just binged it over 2 sessions and absolutely loved it. It's been awhile since I've seen a modern TV series that I've enjoyed as much and you're correct, the pacing is spot on, the episodes just flew by with me hooked to watch the next.
I'd score it a lot higher using your system, mainly for pacing, visuals and entertainment, around the high 80's
It's frustrating how long Sherlock Holmes 3 has been pushed back, but whenever it does come you bet my ass I will be in that seat, looking forward to watching this show, great review, keep up the good work.
Appreciate it
I’m pretty sure that Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) is signed to direct Sherlock Holmes 3. Not Guy Ritchie!
@@lukerota1547 thanks, I wasn't aware, that movie has been pushed so much under the rug that most news doesn't make waves.
I keep struggling to understand why Sherlock 3 wasn’t an immediate lock for Ritchie, Downey, and Law to do. The first two did well in the BO and have a huge following
@@ComedyBros5 I agree, it's an enigma
My favorite Ritchie thing ever is The Man from UNCLE, very underrated among his other films.
Hell yea. It’s a crying shame we’ll never get a sequel out of it!!
Loved that movie! Too bad we didn't get a sequel.
Big words, long sentences but short scenes. Love it❤
1:32 Archibald Horniman died not Mickey Pearce, this really threw me when I first heard you say it and had to go back and rewatch 😂
Favourite guy ritchie film it's gotta be snatch !
Good choice
The movie was one of my favorites from a few years back
Binged it.
As a Brit myself, I have always liked Guy Ritchie and his particular set of skills!
My favourite Ritchie film would have to be The Gentlemen.
This show is great. with a "T"
Your reviews are flawless
Your comments are flawless
😅
I was concerned about this because I didn’t really think it needed to be made, even though I absolutely loved the movie. But man it was phenomenal. I think it also does a great job setting up the potential for multiple season. Also, I was waiting in anticipation to see a character from the movie but, as the show went on I am very glad they didn’t show any and potentially left the door open for some crossover moving forward.
I absolutely loved this show I hope they have a season 2
I haven't finished the show, but it's kinda wild to see a lot of appreciation for it. Five episodes in, I've been continuously bewildered at how incredibly stupid it is. The characters embody a sense of moronic unbelievability. Not only are they stupid, but they are the "too stupid to live" kind of stupid. There isn't a snow-ball's chance in hell that Susie ever got to the position she's in, either in terms of merit (being a moron) or in terms of survivability (being a moron in her line of work).
Over and over again, I find myself baffled at the decisions these characters make and the way they try to solve problems. The most farcical of which being the solution to Mercy holding Fred hostage. They just magick Toni Blair out of thin air and offer him up on a silver platter, which is then promptly forgotten about next episode. In case you're wondering, that's a sign that when the writers got to the "Mercy is holding Fred hostage" part, they just threw their hands in the air, said "fuck it" and gave up.
Also, the notion that Eddie's actor is any good is hilarious to me. It might just be that the character itself is absolutely terrible, but I have rarely seen a more stilted and unbelievable character in my life. From the moment he became Duke, he hasn't felt like an actual human being. And while the actor isn't Orlando Blooms level of terrible, he is incredibly one-note and unimpressive.
You'll love the ending (not).. if you haven't gotten there already...
Just trying to see if anyone else enjoyed thos as much as I did. Great show!
1:32 I thought Mickey Pearson wasnt in this? Isnt that a separate character?
he isn't
It's a very fun show the last 2 episodes were insane
Just started ep 3. The car lady says "Mabuhay". That's welcome in flip
That one hit netflix has once a leap year. Also pretty cool to see him finally coming to terms with what his ancestors actually would have been like. 😂 the aristocrat in the last episode is the kind of man i imagined came down from england to south asia in the 1500s to conquer, pillage and exploit. The whole series is about an aristocrat going from the modern age image of most of the old money to just being the asshole that they probably were when those titles had power
These might be the nicest drug dealers but the show was dope
The trailer didn't do justice, but after watching ep1 I was already hoping for a season 2
The movie was great and showcases the London Gansters and the series delivers and very rare positive spin from the movie into the smaller screen , even thje cast is spot on too Guy Ritchie is quality and full 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favourite Guy Ritchie projects (in no particular order):
1. Sherlock Holmes
2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
3. The Man from U.N.C.L.E
4. Wrath of Man
5. The Gentlemen Series
6. The Gentlemen Movie
Did you notice the Snatch and Breaking Bad cross over? 😂
I can't say the movie is better nor the TV show, I think both are brilliant in their own format, the show is deeper of course because 8 episodes but man, both are great.
Phenominal show
There are so many of us that have never seen the movie, but this is our first time watching Guy Ritchie. So I loved it and I hope Mother’s Day too. I found it completely entertaining.
Also recommend checking out the Sherlock films, Man from UNCLE, Wrath of Man, and The Covenant.
Bruh the Gentleman show is a must watch not gonna lie binge watch every episode straight no sleep . Which is crazy but 10/10 curios on what’s happening with season 2
One of the best binge watches this year I was invested maybe I have more free time than most
Just watched the first 4 episodes. Wow this series is entertaining. 9/10 so far.
It was GREAT!
There's too many Films being turned into TV series these days
A statement like that deserves a reason as to why you find this a negative thing.
will you review code 8 p2 austin?
Michael Pearson has nothing to do with the story. The father is a completely different character. McConaughey‘s character is nowhere near this TV show.
It's totally different, but I like it.
Spent most of the vid talking about the fist ep lol it was brilliant series
I mean it’s a non-spoiler review lol
i had never watched the film but decided to watch the tv show and was surprised by how good it was. so i decided to watch the movie and thought it was pretty crap to be honest, after about 30 mins i was bored and wanted it to end, it did have a few moments here and there which were ok but for the most part it was dull and crap
How about the Parents Guide? Couldnt find any in Imdb today
I wouldn't watch it with the under 18s for sure
AWESOME!!!!
I still enjoyed it but it felt a little bit like the movie recycled and stretched over one season. I dont regret watching it though, still would recommend.
Series was MUCH better than the movie imho...and I'm hònestly happy that the twò leads didn't hòokup but the definte sexual tension built for season 2!!!
I'm halfway through but i think it's better than the movie, the production value feels high for a tv show
The movie was definitely better.
But I enjoyed the series too and binged it just like you as the pacing made it very easy.
Two episodes in and I dont give a shit about either Horniman brother.
Then if your teammate scores 70 in a loss wouldn’t u feel bad that yall didn’t help him get the win for that type of performance ?
I didn't get it. I couldn't believe there was still 22 minutes left....it felt like hours.
I just walked out. Didn't bother to dignify it by switching it off.
What didn't you get?
22 minutes left of what?
Walked out of what?
Omg cant believe netflix came out with something not woke n forcing politics. It is fun im loving it. Eddie is hysterical hopefully there will b a 2nd season. Thank u guy richie for not going woke n breaking bringing back a series thats pure enjoyment😊
Mickey Pearson wasn’t the father was he?????
I like it except the last episode
The only disappointing thing for me was no Susie-Eddie romance. Hope Season 2 will be greenlit and we will have their romance.
I rate it 2/10
The reason for the low rating is the soundtrack, I jus't cant watch something when the constant soundtrack in almost every scene makes my ears bleed.
Plotline is also kinda meh.
In my opinion, Guy Ritchies worst.
YES
Since Lock Stock etc., always considered Guy Ritchie the British Tarantino wannabe or Tarantino light, just taking the Los Angeles low level street crime and transplanting it to London. Over time the Richie has developed his own style and the further he gets from Tarantino's style the more boring he gets.
The show is fun, but the lead actor completely ruined it for me. His acting is so subpar, especially when hes surrounded bh the stellar acting of everyone else on set.
Some of the plot is just ridiculous, tbh lazy writing, but if that's overlooked, it's a decent series
LOVING IT !!!!
Ya I love it really great black comedy!!. Maybe he plasters his name a little too much on the credits - in the beginning in the ending in big letters ya ok guy we know you’re behind it .. more please..
I don't understand the final episode. Wtf happened to the Gospel? I thought we were about to see a shoot out??
Mr.Glass called him last second
Quid pro quo
So Mickey sold his empire because i was confused by that part🤦🏾♂️. Im on the first episode and don't want to ruin the show.
The first episode is actually fine. It just goes down hill from there, Freddy being a screw up, Eddie being a soft pussy and Jimmy being an entire fool, that sums up from the 2nd to 5th episode.
The series is almost like a Guy Richie product, but far from a good Guy Richie product.
The ending was ridiculous
Tv show was better very good
I found the soundtrack to be cheap. They tried to do something like John Wick with classical pieces, but they missed the mark by a lot and that cheapened the whole experience. Also Stupid plot-holes, like showing his coke-head brother secret lab right after he fucked up. Guy Ritchie is losing his touch. Also, nobody would transport a van full of weed just by one pothead alone on his own just for it to be stolen.
Lmao. No. This show was phenomenal.
@@thaliafernandez1852 agree to disagree. by ep3 writing fell apart and I stopped watching.
Vinnie jones is the best thing about it
Great series and cast .
CHICKEN MAN IS BAAAAACK lol
I actually like it more
Absolutely not anywhere near better than the movie.
The movie is perfection, yet the series is a disappointing mimic! It’s similar yet different but has no of the guy Ritchie flare that we love
It was brilliant
The show is good…but the characters Jimmy and the older brother being SOOOOO dumb and getting chance after chance after chance to keep fucking up…..got dumb and cringey.
Absolutely awful. Watched only 1 epidode.
Not one normal human character. No contrast or variety.
I got really annoyed with the sameness of many of the characters. The same attitude: thuggish, threatening. Ritchie went for bizarre and over the top.
Really boring.
After the first episode of watching this with my wife which she recommended i tuned out.
unless you can turn off your brain and disregard logic you might enjoy this show.
the biggest illogical point to me was that they have all these millions in artifacts ,painting and such , there's is NO security on the grounds
Not only that but the entrance of the drug mob pot farm is through a semi cargo container that is on the property? REALLY? Did they remove the dirt for this huge facility through this cargo trailer?
I just checked out. not for me. i just cant turn off the logic switch in my head for this. Enjoy.
Yeah it's FULL of massive plot holes
it was all style and no substance, and the style flopped hard
The first 2 1,6 hour
The gospel was just a front so weak
The show is really Amazing a
It’s very good
The series doesn't come close to the exellence of the movie lol not even close.
This show is an absolute piece of sht, it’s a joke that an organized crime runs like this. Basically anyone, like literally anyone, can piss on them and they won’t do anything. There is no consequences crossing them. Cannot imagine how the business survives
You want a serious crime drama watch Mcmafia. I left my serious hat on the door and enjoyed it as aGuy Ritchie flick. Sometimes you don’t need to have it be a serious gritty real crime drama. I just had a lot of fun watching this and taking notes on the fashion as I loved those suits.
Only Guy Ritchie movie I have liked is Aladdin. Everything else has too heavy of English accents for me.
Lol
Are you going to review imaginary?
🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
it feels very much like a show aimed at teens for me, can't take it serious at all despite the starpower in this series...
I actually think it's trash.I've watched the first 2 episodes and I don't enjoy it.Slow and I don't find any of the characters compelling
Hey Austin, why do you talk like that?
Huh? When I was young I learned words, and then it was up from there I guess.
It’s terrible!! Not good at all!! Such a shame as I waited like 3 months for it!
Sure you didn't download the porn parody?
wdym its good
@@darthsampo3022then carry on watching, I don’t mind that you like it
Same old concept, nothing new...
Loved the show but the final episode was so dumb that my brain hurts
