Can Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10+ Shoot Pro-Quality Video?

  • Samsung’s $1,099 Galaxy Note 10+ is the best Android phone you can buy. It’s packed with everything most people want in a modern flagship device, from a great display to awesome cameras, even if there are a few sacrifices, such as no standard headphone jack.
    It starts at $1,099, which is expensive for most people. But it offers pretty much anything you could want out of a phone, including great battery life, fast charging, tons of storage and water resistance.
    It also has Samsung’s S Pen stylus for jotting notes and new air gestures that let you control music, the camera and more.
    Samsung and Apple’s earnings reports have shown that buyers are reluctant to purchase phones that cost $1,000 or more, instead choosing to hang on to older devices for longer. But there are still buyers in the segment, and for folks who don’t want an iPhone, the Galaxy Note 10+ is your best bet.

    You did kind of push some features beyond reasonable use. Like being really far away and expecting the mic to pick it up. I tested mine with the super steady and really loved that. I haven't tried the video editor yet but honestly I don't think I will. I already have HitFilm Pro so there's no reason to work extra hard with a limited, linear, editor.

    It would help if either one of them took even just a few minutes to learn how to work some of the things they were trying to showcase. I've played with a demo unit of the 10+ and the S-Pen gestures are easier to operate if you actually know what you're doing and not just waving it around like a fool.

    -You can tone down note's portrait mode with slider
    -4k 60p on middle camera / 4k 30p on all the other cameras
    -with a $6 dongle you can add an external microphone (for even ProSumer video the mic on even the best phone will not do)
    -Adobe Rush on DEX is sweet
    -Adobe Rush on phone Edit but do not Render (Render on PC when you get home for 4K) (The project opens right on your PC from the cloud, No fuss)
    - 10+ has 12gig of Ram not 8 but do not think that matters much
    Samsung, Apple and pixel are all great cameras if you can connect a microphone or use a separate recorder like a tascam
    PS: The upcoming top end Apple Camera system does 4K 60p with all cameras and probably has leg up on Samsung for Video, I will keep my note as I am not an IOS guy at all.

    So, the Mb of ram is only one factor of the speed of ram a computer or phone has. So, when you say "a PC has 32G of ram and a phone that has 8G of ram" it give the impression that the phone is 1/4th the power of the PC, but the PC ram is like the DDR4-3200, which has a clock speed of 400Mhz, while the phone uses the LPDDR4 which is 200Mhz. The DDR4-3200 max banwidth is 25.4Mb/s vs the LPDDR4's 4.6Mb/s. So, with high insensaty processing like video editing, that speed per G of ram is 5.5 times and high for the PC then the phone. And with 4 times the ram, that adds up to 22 times the speed.

    The point of zoom audio is directionality, not quite the long distances tested here. And definitely NOT panning as in the test that followed as the "location" is determined based on the subject's location on the frame prior to zooming in. Kudos on the running tests, it was a good workout wasn't it.

  • @malooly
    @malooly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It could be pro if they gave access to their version of their camera API to apps like Filmicpro. Which is the main actual PRO app out there for Android. Filmic pro has been used on I-phone to film a feature length movie (re: "Unsane"). They keep saying they're opening it to developers but they haven't really. Samsung over-sharpens and is too aggressive on noise reduction. They are also using low video bitrates which lead to that "digital cellphone look". So easy to fix, stock android cams give you access but not Samsung.

    Actually the Note 10 and Note 10+ are priced substantially less with trade-in and 2-for-1 deals. The RAM is 12GB on both models. No other phone has Windows/DEX capabilities. All the camera, S-Pen and photo editing tricks are upgradeable through future app updates. Note 10 can play PC games remotely (coming soon).

      No, I'm saying it's not as good as iPhone for photos and just not good at the effect at all for video. Fwiw, I've been reviewing phones since 2007.

      Hello Todd! Did you show Note10+ live focus photos for comparison? I only saw the admittedly poor quality live focus video footage.

    • @landflow
      @landflow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @R S lol yeah, because it's cool to present an apparently bias segment in a review by displaying poor quality video footage from one device on one hand, then displaying high quality photographs of a rival device on the other hand. Then, subsequently stating that one performs better than the other is not evidence of one's extensive experience, a fair review nor is it factual, for that matter.

      Because hype-train journalism is smart money. Investigative journalism also feeds on emotion and is best served hyped. People who want detailed, unbiased, unhyped information have to do more of their own work.
