- Follow along as we go through the steps of installing a Ford 8.8 IRS in our Mazda FC RX7. In this version I talk about the couple other areas on the outside of the diff that need to be ground down for clearance.
Thanks for making this. It’s gonna make my life easier.
That Milwaukee tool was killer!
8 years later and I still use the heck out of that thing.
Hi Dave, great video. I looked at the build thread-would you consider posting more footage? Prepping to do the swap and they'd be a huge help, thanks!
I'll see what I can dig up. I can say the swap is totally worth it though. Maybe I'll shoot a wrapup video about it.
It would be greatly appreciated! Video is so much clearer than an install guide, whatever you can post would be helpful, thanks.
Looks like we are still waiting!
Is there a second part?
Hi, sounds exciting but where are the rest of the videos as to how to install this diff into you RX7?
Lost the footage, but working on an overview/review piece now that I got a new shop built out!
What axles did you use?
did you make any other videos of the 8.8 install?
I've got some more footage I need to edit.
The full build thread for the car is here: grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-threads-and-project-cars/rx7-hillclimber-build-thread/52684/page1/
cool, thanks I appreciate it
Dave where did you order the Ford 8.8 IRS pumpkin from?
Ebay! This one specifically came from a junk yard in northern Vermont. It's all aluminum so rust isn't an issue. The early 2000's Explorers came stock with these things so they're readily available - just change the gearing (or don't if you have a turbo) and add a real LSD.
can you use the Moser Engeenering cover that does not have the ears to avoid having to cut anything the model number is 7106
Great question. Looks like it would, but I would want to test fit before committing to saying yes. Maybe I'll buy one to find out. If I do I'll post an update video.
Did some additional research and it does appear that you can use an aftermarket 8.8 diff cover without issues to avoid cutting the ears off.
David Estey thanks a lot deeply appreciate it
Happy to help. Let me know if you come up with any more questions.
It's worth the swap!
Dave Estey what axles did u use? ronins?grannys? homemade?
