Signal on the left: 3 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights, a GRS gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.
Signal on the right: 1 pair of Modern Industries 8 inch lights, 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 2 electronic bell, a GRS gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
This was the fourth and final crossing I caught Q573 at before I went home. I met-up with Ethan again here to catch it, though it took it a while due to stopping around the state line (I'm guessing it met a northbound train there?). However, it did eventually come through, and we were able to get it one final time.
Like the other crossings I recorded along the Mainline Sub, this crossing is another nice one. It appears that the signals here were originally a 1970s L&N install, possibly replacing some even older L&N signals. At the time, both signals would've featured inverted 2 Tracks signs. However, in the 1990s, the cantilever on the far side was struck and was replaced by CSX as a result, though the 2 Tracks sign was re-used on it. Then, sometime between 2009 and 2012, the (WRRS?) mechanical bell that was here was replaced with the current Safetran Type 2 e-bell.
The only noticeable change to this crossing since 2012 was that the inverted 2 Tracks signs here were sadly replaced sometime before 2015 with the current ones. And as you can see, the current ones have managed to hold up quite well over the years since...
However, sarcasm aside, it is quite nice that both of the GRS gate mechs here, along with the old L&N cantilever on this side, have managed to survive all of these years. I always do love these older cantilevers which have 12 inch overhead lights and 8 inch mast lights, for some reason. They just somehow look nice to me.
The crossing also features a good number of incandescent gate lights still, which is an added bonus. Both gate arms also appear to have had gate stabilizers on them at some point, though only the closer one has anything other than the mount for it left. The right hand gate light on the closer signal is also rather unusually close to the gate mechanism, though I'm not entirely sure why.
Ethan the Railfanner's also filmed this crossing (along with the other ones in Hendersonville) quite a few times, as they're the closest crossings to him. However, when Ethan films here, he usually films on the far side of the crossing (which you can see him doing so in this video), as there's a sidewalk over there but not one over here. However, for me, the 8 inch lights on the closer signal were much more interesting, so I chose to set-up on this side. Also helped that the lighting was better on this side, lol.
Either way, that was my final video from my trip to Kentucky, and I must say, I enjoyed it quite a bit! One thing I did realize though is the fact I should probably try to get up to the Mainline Sub a lot more than I usually do, especially since it still has a fair amount of older L&N equipment along it.
