You guys didn't mention SARTO? They are 100% custom hand made Italian carbon bikes, completely made in house. Everything from geometry, paint, carbon weave finish, bb standard, etc... is chosen by the customer. They even produce their own carbon stems, handlebars, seat posts, bottle cages, and saddles. Their attention to detail and finishing work is immaculate. I hope you add them to your list
I’m super exited when my custom frame made by Hagen Wechsel is finished. It’s gonna be my dream track bike with H+Son rims, Phil Wood hubs, Chris King Headset and some more neat stuff. And not to forget the Paul Components Royal Flush crankset.
I attended NABHS in Sacramento a couple years back. On the Carbon fiber frames front, Crumpton, Purlee, Calfee are all pretty ridiculously nice but the lugged fill carbon frames from Bill Holland most tidy with near perfect fit and finish up close. I agree Rob English's stuff was exceptional up close and very dynamic. Other thoughts, Retrotec's by Inglis are best looking (I'm bias I own one with S&S couplers for travel), SoulCraft had the cleanest welds and from work horse/ride/race into the ground you just can't beat RockLobster. Honorable mention to Paragon Machine works who provide all the dropouts, BB shells, and Head tubes who help keep full custom frame more affordable since small builders don't have to spend hours fabricating all those complex pieces.
Would love to see you guys come to Portland Oregon, visit Chris King and the multitude of frame builders in our city. I work for a major hotel brand and could help with accommodations. Just send me a PM.
Altruiste in New Brunswick Canada (man makes them by hand out of steel by himself) and Landyachtz right here in East Vancouver, BC (also steel) love Canadian bike builders!
Thanks I didn't know about most of them. Other than English and 51 for some reasons. You should talk about Marinoni in Quebec Canada. They make incredible bikes and you can choose paint colours but they also make them out of different materials. They are very nice people as well. A friend just got an incredible track bike from them. Cheers !
One I would recommend on this list is Waterford bike. They are actually older than Cherubin if you count their history as part of Schwinn Paramount prior to the Schwinn family selling the company and which dates back to 1938. When the Schwinn family sold the business one of the Schwinn family members along with a partner bought the Schwinn Paramount Design Group and has continued making custom steel road bikes. They are everything you could ask for in custom steel bikes. They certainly rank as one of the best custom steel bike manufacturers in the world.
For about one more year, Tom Kellogg and Jeff Duser will be building the last Spectrum cycles (in steel or titanium) in a 200 year old stone barn outside Allentown PA. I have a 1996 Spectrum (refurbished in 2008) and may order a new one before they stop taking orders in July.
He's (Cipo) accused of stalking and violently assaulting his ex-wife and her new partner in front of he colleagues at her work and in a seperate case, assaulting his own sister. If I was deciding between two high end bikes, I think I'd give the violent mysogonists brand a miss. @@mitchellsteindler
deKerf in Vancouver, BC is in that category ... but still a secret to a large part of the custom frame community. And of course Dario Pegoretti - dearly missed by all !!! And hundreds of others. Thankfully we live in a golden age of bicycle framebuilding. Everyone should enjoy it while it lasts.
You gotta check out Stinner Frameworks and Jones Precision Wheels at NABHS. Aaron and John pair up to make some of the prettiest and grittiest bikes out there..
I know they are most known for their MTB frames in the 90´s, but Fat Chance Bikes makes some really cool steel frames like Chris Cross 2.0 and Slim Chance 2.0 :D
Crikey N+1 is coming. I’m a Sheffield guy and I didn’t realise field were from my home town. Having just bought an Oltre XR4 I’d best crack on with that 🐕 🏠 as well. Cheers Chris 😂 Ps I liked the different presentation didn’t worry Cippolini 😁
Caletti Cycles in Santa Cruz, CA, and Speedvagen in Portland, OR could both have made this list, along with many others. No fault in your choices, though. Those bikes are super nice.
@@vinnym8632 You ride a Moots and a Stinner? How do you handle the vastly different stiffnesses between the two - the Moots is a stunning frame, with ride comfort and perfect handling... the Stinner, well, not so much. Not being rude (at least not meaning to be), just genuinely curious.
@@KimHDRoberts they are 2 different machines. the moots rsl disc is their stiffest frame and have a typical race setup - enve 3.4 ses w/ 25c tires. the stinner gibraltar d is a custom endurance geometry steel frame on zipp 303 nsw w/ 28c tires. therefore, the reduction of road vibration is about equivalent, however the stinner allows me to ride longer (and harder) due to my ailing back (broke it about 2 years ago). both machines are brilliant for what i use them for (and i'm certainly fortunate to have both). but i choose the stinner these days due to fewer aches & pains
@@vinnym8632 Makes perfect sense. I loved the Moots Vamoots CR, but the RSL (with it's butted tubes) was a little too... I don't want to say harsh, because it wasn't, it was perhaps a little overly stiff for my tastes. Thanks for the reply (and for not taking offence to the question).

You definitely left off Crumpton Cycles... Nick makes an amazing custom carbon bike and has won numerous awards at NAHBS. Too bad, he is as good as it gets.

Beautiful bikes there chaps

Do you make anything to make the hairs on my arms go down. I fear for my aero gains.
Oh what a feeling, to be on the GCN show.

..what i wouldn't give to own a custom Bastion bike...simply stunning!
They are incredible!
Topsey Kretts thank you so much!
This was the most satisfying video about bikes i've watched in a very very long time.
