    When Eddie Van Halen needed help with a guitar riff he would turn to Glen for help. Amazing studio musician. One of music's top 5 guitar players all time.

    Campbell was a much in-demand session guitarist (with the famous "Wrecking Crew" group of noted L.A. session musicians) and played on a number of hit singles by various artists (including the Beach Boys, who rarely played on their own recordings). His transition to a stellar (and very popular, Grammy-winning) vocal artist in his own right was an exceptional feat.

      Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed. He's hitting two strings at once at superspeed. I've spent my whole life trying to make my 12 string sound like a 12 string. It's a great instrument (Martin) , but I suck.

    This is amazing! Love it. I've been trying to figure out which of several stunning examples of Campbell's prowess with the guitar. This one was a fine choice. Loved your reaction. (BTW, it was the Lone Ranger's theme... and, he was an original or very early Beach Boys member.)

    This is a classical piece by Gioachino Rossini, that is the Overture from his opera “William Tell” and was popularized in the golden-age of radio from the radio serial shows “The Lone Ranger” in the 1930s and later on the film and television versions of the hero of the “old West” which firmly placed the William Tell Overture in pop culture for several generations.

    AS a child of the 1940's, 50's & 60's I first heard this on radio as the intro music for the radio program "The Lone Ranger" (the show stared a radio actor named Brace Beemer at that time). Then the program moved to Television in the early 50's, (staring Clayton Moore). So every time I hear this that is what my mind brings to the fore, The Lone Ranger. A very nice rendition by Glen.

    Thanks again Harri for reacting to another of my suggestions. I thought this would show Glen's talent with a guitar. He always played it at his concerts and even during his goodby tour, when he could not remember what town he was in or he would play the same song more than once because he couldn't remember. What when he picked up his 12 string all the issues melted away and he played the William Tell Overture like he had played it a thousand times. Can hardly wait til next month when I have a totally new artist you have no reacted to yet. Be well and take care, blueyedkansan

    Harri, before he became a singing star, Glen Campbell was one of the top studio musicians in Los Angeles in what would later become known as "the Wrecking Crew," that core group of musicians that played on just about everybody's records. There's a documentary film about The Wrecking Crew (titled, you guess it, "The Wrecking Crew"). I highly recommend it. It will blow your mind. Honestly, if you're serious about this musical journey you're on, you owe it to yourself to watch this film about the musicians that played the backing tracks on about half of all the hit records made in America in the 1960s and '70s. You can rent it right here on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/zwiTas70pAo/w-d-xo.html

    Thank you so much for reacting to this great legend. I grew up listening to his music. Glen Campbell was one of the most talented entertainers & guitarists in the world. He had a lot of hits such as "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife", "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston", "Rhinestone Cowboy", "Southern Nights" etc. Sadly he got Alzheimer's later in life. The last song he recorded was "I'm Not Gonna Miss You".

      It was interesting how the standing ovation was not a dribbling of people gradually standing like you sometimes see. This audience surged to their feet as one as the last note ended. Glenn Campbell was a fantastic musician and singer. He was also an accomplished actor and had a featured role in the movie True Grit with John Wayne. The one where Wayne won an Oscar. It is too bad he did not do more movies.

    • @StevesFunhouse
      @StevesFunhouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a GREAT list of Glenn's songs you listed there, but perhaps you missed the part though, where Harri mentioned that he had already heard Glenn had been afflicted by Alzheimer's disease, or that he was depressed all day long after finding out and listening to, "I'm Not Gonna Miss You". Other songs that "I" also like of his are, It's Only Make Believe, Where's The Playground Susie and his version of Classical Gas.

    Wonderful performance by Glen. In some ways this overture had become a joke because it's overused in pop culture. But it's a stirring piece of music you should listen to - see it live at the symphony and you'll truly appreciate it. It's about 12 minutes long with beautiful adagio at the beginning.
