Love having my coffee while watching Judy!
Awww…. so happy to hear that. I’m having my coffee as I answer these messages.
I drink my soda lol
Or tea. 2-3-25 M
@judynorton2598 coffee is good Judy do you like Starbucks
Lots of good memories watching The Waltons with my dad many decades ago. Such a decent, wholesome show. I miss those days.
So glad you were able to share the show with your dad.
So many wonderful memories from waltons to treasure
Absolutely. The gift that keeps giving.
@@judynorton2598 That's what "Cousin Eddie" said to "Clark Griswold" in the movie "Christmas Vacation." 😅🤣
I hope you and Mary and Kami have a safe trip and fun time at the Conference! To me, you all were even better than "Rock" Stars! The way The Homecoming was written, directed, acted, and filmed + its Christmas debut followed by that first season of artistic cinematography elevated everything and everyone! That the story was set in a historic period that I heard much about from my parents and Grandmother gave an added sense of magic. Anyone who likes "old-fashioned" times knows what I mean. I don't quite know how to explain the charm. Well, an early Happy Valentine's Day to you and Walton's everywhere! Bless you all always! ❤
Thank you. I’m so glad you feel that way about the show.
I know what you mean
@GinaKieffer-gl8dv 🩷
Hey Judy I just wanna say I love the Waltons and it’s so nostalgic!❤
So happy to hear that. Thank you!
My Monday just got better…thanks to Judy :) 👍🏻
🥰
You look lovely today Judy. That scarf was lovely as well.
Thank you :)
Thank you Judy for these videos. I was born in 75 and I grew up with my Mom watching the Waltons. I think it was around dinner time to watch Little House and The Waltons. Please keep up the good work, and I wish my Mom could see your videos.
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoy the show.
Both Ellen Geer and Lane Bradbury played Ronie Cotter. Ellen also played Eva Mann in "The Ceremony" in Season 1.
Yes! Thanks for sharing that.
I was just taking my dad and he has been watching the Waltons and enjoying its depiction of the late 30s as he grew up in Brazil in the 30s and 40s in a rural area and was the son of a Baptist minister.
He grew up similarly as the Walton’s kids, running around barefoot, listening to the same church hymns and experiencing the old Fords and dirt roads.
How sweet. Thanks for sharing that with me.
I loved the actor David Huddleston as "The Literary Man"! This same actor played the sheriff in "The Homecoming." He is so believable in both. Later in the series, I loved John Crawford as the sheriff. It is always interesting to read the bios and career histories of the guest actors on The Waltons. Unfortunately, neither actor is with us anymore. I always like to hear how guest actors felt about playing in The Waltons. None too surprising, the consensus is that they enjoyed themselves on the set with your cast. The Waltons is legendary and iconic. Again, Judy, many thanks!
I love Ep, the sheriff!!
Sad that we have lost so many of the wonderful actors who worked on the series. I’m always touched by the positive things guests have to say about working on the show.
Judy, you have SUCH STYLE in clothes! I love this scarf, and the plaid black and white and grey shirt! Have a wonderful safe trip to the Working Women's Show this month! I used to run Record Collector Shows here in Seattle (for 27 years)! Too much work, so another guy took that over!
Thank you! Yes, we’re hoping for a successful, fun event for all.
When you were talking about characters that were played by two different actors there was Sweet Billy with Les Lannom and Jordan Clarke also
Vernon the junkman with George Tobias and Roy Engel thanks Judy.🇺🇲📺🇺🇲
Yes… there were quite a few actors who appeared as more than one character.
I totally agree with you Judy on keeping certain aspects of your personal life private. I am a very private person and weary of strangers. I only share with those I feel comfortable with and even then, I am cautious as to what I share. Watching the show, one thing I realised is that I am thankful for the 9 seasons and movie specials. Despite all of those episodes and movies, my thirst for The Waltons never seems to be quenched, such is the shows' hold over me. Just finished season 1 today with the Easter Story. I'm going to catch up on some movies before returning to season 2. Thanks Judy and best wishes to you as always from your waltonian superfan in a slightly milder England😉
In today’s world it can be hard for even non-celebrities to keep their life private! lol
Love the scarf Judy❤ You always look great🎉
Love the scarf❤
I agree it looks lovely on her and reminds me that I have a few that I am going to pull out to take on vacation with me.
Thank you. I got this one in France. One of my favorites :)
Thanks for another great segment, Judy. Beautiful scarf 🧣 for a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul. You’re a real bright spot in this crazy world ❤
Thank you so much.
She 's easy to listin to. Thanks Judy
Thank you. I appreciate that.
I know we talk about things that are off … not sure if you talked about this one… but here is one for you. On the episode Prophecy when John is talking to Martin in his store and Martin says basically he is upset about all the class of 1911 stuff … well in the episode Diploma when John finds out he didn’t graduate when he went off to war. Olivia helps him with taking the test to get his diploma and has a surprise when he passes. At their celebration there is a sign handing that says graduation 1917. So somewhere John’s graduation date got messed up
Good catch. I had not noticed that. Although dates on things definitely changed around over the seasons.
Hope you had a great birthday. The big '65'! I know we're 2 years apart, but you'll always be my birthday twin.❤
Thank you. Did you turn 65? I turned 67.
@judynorton2598 Yup! I know we're two years apart, and I learned that after I met you in NJ. Just like calling you my birthday twin.
Thank You Judy...Your show as totally enhanced my love and appreciation of the Waltons!
So happy to hear that.
@@judynorton2598 I lived in a dorm at college and didn't have a TV when the Waltons aired. Now with Amazon Prime I can get all Seasons...In the summer I live Off grid...So I just purchased the full DVD collection. Have you ever thought of a Waltons dating web site?...hahaha
Hi Judy THE Waltons Love my favorite one fan BIG 💖💖💖💖💖💖🎶

Congratulations!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations!🎉
That's so awesome, Congratulations!! 👍👍
That's awesome! ❤
I love seeing you Judy. A few weeks back they went from season 1 to the end of all the season and then the 2 hour specials. It was so awesome. Even after all the years I can't get enough of the Waltons. My son has won money on what I would be doing in the afternoon. His friends they couldn't believe that he always new what I was doing. Really I hope they never take the Waltons off the air. It is a true down to earth show ❤❤❤❤❤😊
So glad to hear you enjoy the show so much!
Another great episode and interesting Ms. Judy. Thank you you so much. God's speed.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and memories from the show. I absolutely adore the show. I started watching it as a little girl with my grandparents. The memories of that make the show so special to me. I always loved the character Mary Ellen as I found her so inspiring. I had the privilege of meeting a few of the cast members a couple years ago. Take care, Ms. Norton! ❤️
My pleasure. So happy to hear you were able to share the show with your grandparents and that you found Mary Ellen inspiring.
Fans are the greatest always to interact with just like me
Hi Judy. Another interesting Ask Judy. It’s interesting to find out what it took to complete each episode. You all made it look so easy. Thank you once again for taking the time and doing the work for these segments.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Fan mail is the greatest mail to get every week
Good morning Judy! I love all the information you give us on making/filming The Waltons. Thank you!
You're very welcome! So glad you enjoy it.
Thank you for your great video today, love your scarf! It was nice to come home from a long day and listen to you today.
Thank you so much.
Hi Judy, thanks for sharing all the information of The Waltons. So interesting to learn what goes on behind the scenes.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hello Judy, I'm recording the Crisis today two parts and the Journey. I love both of these shows, love the Walton's period. Have a wonderful day Judy. Love and Blessings 💗💜🌸🌸🌸
Awesome! Thanks.
Great video again today, Judy, thank you!
I hope you will be able to share a bit about the Womans Workshop, have fun!! 😃
I hope to be able to capture some clips while we’re there.
You may not have been a rock star in LA, but you sure were here in the mountains of Virginia. We loved everything about the show and I still rewatch every chance I get.
Thank you 🥰
I've always been impressed that Hal Roach filmed the scenes in the Laurel and Hardy movies in sequence.
Amazing!
Love all these videos Judy I look forward to every week thanks
So glad. Thank you.
Hello Judy and Happy Monday to you! As always, great questions. It was always nice to see actors come back to the show. I always hoped they would give us a glimpse of what happened with the family in the Spoilers again because I love the actress Linda Purl, so it was nice to see her again playing Kurt's little sister. Thank you so MUCH for sharing. I love your videos!!!🥰
Right! Linda did indeed also play 2 different characters.
Enjoyed hearing some nuts and bolts of putting together a show!
Glad you enjoyed this.
Hi Judy I must say how marvellous you look!!Each episode is just a joy to watch!! I wondered if you have any specific favourites? I'm sure there were so many kids in bad family situations who watched The Waltons and really benefited by the splendid interactions portrayed on the show which is such a Priceless Legacy of togetherness and family that it portrayed so eloquently!! All the Best to you and all the cast members and to the Lives well lived by those cast members who are no longer with us!!!!!Cheers and Best Wishes from Canada!!
Thank you so much. Some of my favorite episodes are: An Easter Story, The Fire Storm, The Best Christmas, The Nurse, The Burnout…
There was a book that came out while original Star Trek was on the air which detailed all the work that went into producing one episode. One thing they mentioned is that, with all different effects and things, "post" was going to take longer than most other shows. They mentioned that, ideally, the episodes would be shot six weeks at a minimum before airing, but that by mid-season it might be more like two to three, and that they were afraid that by the last few episodes they could miss air dates. I would imagine that, considering the kind of show The Waltons was (few if any "bells and whistles" necessary), it meant that if you started filming in July/August, you'd be done on time in February/March without a backlog of shows still in "post" with their airing delayed.
I don't know about the specifics of post-production schedules, but it is true that our show was filmed fairly quickly and our post was not super complex. The time between completion and air date did get much closer by the end of the season.
Speaking of shooting scenes by location, I have read about "the MacMurray method". Apparently, Fred MacMurray stipulated in his contract for "My Three Sons" that all of his shots for the season would be done consecutively within 2 months . Afterwards, the rest of the cast would need to fill in the balance of their scenes. This freed Fred MacMurray's schedule up to do other things, but can you imagine the continuity opportunities as well as having to have all episodes written and ready to go on day one! I imagine this was unique and not budget friendly.
I can only imagine the production challenges in shooting that way, not to mention for the rest of the cast.
Thanks for the memories 😊
It's my pleasure.
Happy new year Judy..real GOD bless you and family ❤
Thank you so much.
This was a great Ask Judy segment. More great info. about the show and how it was filmed. Thanks, hope your enjoying your coffee. 🙂
Thank you :)
thanks Judy
🥰
I love your videos Judy and I write music every couple of days
Thank you. How wonderful you write music regularly.
Probably the most amusing show to handle a cast change - my opinion - was Roseanne with the "Becky" transitions - basically broke the 4th wall but in wink & nod way.
Cool. I never caught that, but sounds like it worked.
Happy February Judy! ♥️
Thank you!
The " brunette" Patsy ( Eileen McDonough) was also in the episode "The Hero." I don't mean to be nitpicky. You do an awesome job Judy!!
Ahhh… thanks for the reminder.
Thank you Judy
🥰
Recently I bought a whole season on disc 2nd I believe . And it helped a lot to take me back to a better time in life it's mixed up now. I live in western pa not far from west Virginia and it was that way. The only thing I would of changed on the Walton would be grandmas character in real life. She was to ruff for my blood. Thank you all for the show it had purpose not like today. Thanks
Ellen Corby told them to make Grandma that way. She said that there was too much sweetness.
Thank you for continuing to watch the show. I’m so glad you have enjoyed it over the years.
Howdy and good mornin' Ms. Judy 😊
Thank you! You too!
Thankyou for sharing.
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
*Judy, yep totally agree that family & personal life should be kept private in the industry, unless they themselves agree to step up. Because you are all portraying a character in any tv series or movies or even in the theatre on stage. You are not portraying your own self. Sadly some people forget that and assume that you are actually the character. But I do love how you tell us such wonderful memories of how things were filmed behind the scenes in 'The Waltons' 🙂 All the best with the event coming up that you are also attending too 🙂nz*
Thank you :) I appreciate that.
Hi, Judy! You look great! 😊❤
Thank you 🥰
I agree Judy is absolutely Lovely!!!!
Another Great Ask Judy. I’ve always been fascinated how quickly the 6 “kids” jelled from the get go. I know that the 6 of you had auditioned together the walnut scene for The Homecoming but how many individual auditions did you (or the others) have before that? Do you recall if any other “name” actors had auditioned for Mary Ellen? Of course, this was only 53 years ago so you should have no problem remembering it. LOL!!!! Keep up the good work.
I don’t know that all 6 of us were together at an audition until the final one. I know there were many of the actresses I frequently auditioned against were there. I don’t know about any that went on to be major stars. I know Ron Howard wanted to audition for John Boy, but Richard was already cast.
Good day Judy and thanks for keeping the knowledge flowing our way. Reckless, Ol' Blue and Chance were members of the Waltons family. Were any of the animal family members ever invited to or attended any meet and greet or other events with the Waltons cast? Thanks Judy.
Not that I recall.
Most celebrities are always being followed and you always have to have security behind them if the crowd always gets too heavy
It can be a tough life that way for some.
Omg your Feb event is going to be right in the next county from our house!
Awesome! Come see us, if you can!
@@judynorton2598 would've liked to !
You was my first crush when I was a little brat growing up watching re-runs of the Walton's drooling every time the camera was on you! 😋
Awww… sweet. 😊
When I worked I was in St Charles many times. Nice town. Wish I was able to travel to see you all.
Judy in the episode where Mary Ellen travels to Curt to FL. She got on a bus in Fl and when she arrived home it was a different bus. Seemed the FL bus was newer and the other was the same old bus in Rock Fish. ??
We’ll assume Mary Ellen had to change buses somewhere along the way :)
Hi miss judy I enjoy your videos and the waltons
Thank you!
I love your break-downs.
So glad.
Hello Judy, you remember I told you to check the weather here before you came. Well this is why. It is 63 degrees here after a low of -5 just two weeks ago and snow on the ground until the day before yesterday. That's the Midwest for you. We live and die (literally) by the whims of the Gulf Stream. If it dips and brings in Canadian air we wonder if the car will start in the morning or if we can even find it under the snow. If it rises we get warm air from the Gulf and wonder if our seed catalog will be in soon. And if a cold front meets a warm front we wonder if we will still have a house. As I have done more than a few times. As for people playing two different characters I caught one just the other night that I hadn't noticed before. The actor that played Uncle Cody also played the grandfather of the girl who wanted John-boy to go off to fight in the Spanish American War. The more I thought of all of the double roles it was almost like the Waltons were a company of actors rather than independent contractors. Speaking of characters in the show do you still keep in touch with Debbie Gunn and Lee Purcell? Loved both of them and did write to Debbie for a while but we lost touch.
I need to check in with Debbie - thanks for the reminder. Lee I have stayed in closer contact over the years.
@@judynorton2598 Well tell Debbie that I'd like to hear from her if she wants to and if you speak with Lee, tell her that I loved her in the role of the Wing Walker. She was a beauty.
Yes, didn't the actress that played rose also play the landlady when Maryellen and Erin moved out to an apartment in I think it was Rockfish?
Yes. Peggy Rea played the landlady in the first episode of season 7( " The Empty Nest).
Yes! As Meg mentioned here, Peggy Rea was Rose, and also our landlady in The Empty Nest.
@megfuchs9425 Thank you for responding with your knowledge. That's twice now, I'll be watching for you next time I post something. 😁❤️
@judynorton2598 Thank you Judy, always a pleasure watching your videos and hearing back from you. 😁❤️
You have handled your career in a wonderful way and we appreciate with what you feel comfortable in sharing with us. I would be interested in seeing how you film your TH-cam segments, because your blooper episode was so cute. Just a suggestion.
Thank you so much for your kind words and the suggestion - I'll think about it. I did do a “behind the scenes of behind the scenes” segment. It might cover a lot of what you’re asking about. Here is that link: th-cam.com/video/ga4p2OSWs4w/w-d-xo.html
@ Thanks for the video reference. That was a wonderful explanation of how you make your videos. I was thinking about using clips from your videos as an example of how you make your videos, like the cute bloopers clips. Again, just a suggestion. We like whatever you do, you are so personable.
Hi Judy this was interesting listening to you you looked very nice today love the scarf
Thank you :)
👏
I believe Curtis Norton was played by Victor French the second time
Yes, I loved finally seeing him without a beard.
Yes! Thank you! I blanked on it when I was shooting this segment.
Judy can u talk about Frank and Juanita inn and Juanita work with the fox because having them on set must have been a real treat. I have been a giant fan of Frank’s and Juanita’s work who ever thought u could train a chicken or a fox
I don’t have any specific memories of working with Frank and Juanita. It really is amazing how they can train animals. Quite an art.
Hi Judy I would ❤️ to see you, Mary and Kami, in person, but for now I have other plans.Hopefully, in the near future I'll be able to meet with all of the Walton's cast. This is rather interesting, how the filmmakers filmed the Walton's scenes.
Sorry we will miss seeing you. Thanks for watching.
Hello Judy. I'm loving your channel. The Waltons was one of my favorite show. I have a question, were the ending 'Good night...' scenes filmed when the episode was filmed?
Not necessarily. Since they were just voice over, we did them at random times. Just standing around the boom mic usually in the living room.
I wish there was the behind. The scenes were an episode order playlist so I can bidgewatch it
Are you asking about an episode list for The Waltons? or these behind the scenes segments?
Hi Judy, It’s so cool that you passed 100 Ask Judy’s! Here’s to another 100. You had talked about how the different departments prepared for an upcoming filming of an episode. On episodes that had a lot of people in the show, like a wedding or party, did the costume department ever go over budget because of unexpected number of cast or extras to provide clothing for? Or, did some of the cast not have the best outfits for an episode because the costume department didn’t have the funds? Maybe as cast members, you may have not been aware of these situations. Also, was there ever a situation that the costume department wanted to make an outfit, ordered the material, and the material arrived too late? Thank you for answering my question and if you can please say hello to my daughter, Kim. She would love it!
There was a lot of wardrobe stock at Warner Bros so I’m guessing having enough costumes was not an issue. No idea what their rental agreement was with the studio.

You have mentioned before that there was a school on the lot for all of you to have school time. If the were other children guest starring did they attend the school too or did they just miss a few days of their regular school?
Yes, the other children that appeared in the show would attend the school with us.
Great questions. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Hi Judy, thanks for providing more “behind the scenes” information on what it takes to put a show on the air. This question popped into my head while you were talking. Did the Waltons, on that first day of a new show, have a table read? And if so, can you go through the purpose of a table read? Thanks.
The adults attended a table read a few days prior to the start of an episode - mostly to go through the script to identify problems with the script. This allowed time for the necessary rewrites.
@@judynorton2598 Thanks for the info, Judy.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Good questions. Great answers. Hope your week is going well. Mary
Thanks for watching, Mary!
👍❤️
People can play more than 1 character
Yes, actors train to be versatile.
Pray for my grandfather. He's having knee surgery next week.
I wish him a successful surgery.
In your explaining whether or not you film kitchen scenes for large amounts of episodes. It brings to mind the “Fred MacMurray filming schedule “ which I am sure you have heard about from your tv classic child actors. That seemed like a nightmare to know how to approach a certain scene that you don’t even know is going to occur four months later. I wonder if John D or Ralph S. as directors ever experienced this type a film schedule?
Yes, I have heard that Fred McMurray filmed all his scenes at one time and then wasn’t around for the rest of the season as the other actors filmed all the rest of the scenes, close ups etc. Must have been challenging.
🥰
Thanks, Judy!!!
Thanks for watching!
i live in st charles by the arena that's cool.
Awesome. Hope you can come by and say hello to us.
I have a question for the next time maybe. Will Geer would carry seeds everywhere with him spread them wherever he went, did any of those seeds ever grow or still growing today somewhere? Regards Stephen.
Probably.
Hey there, Judy. Thanks for these great podcasts. My question is this. If a script from a new show crosses your path, would you try for it?
Probably - as long as the concept and character appealed to me and I thought I could do a good job with it.
@judynorton2598 Thank you. We, the fans, would love ❤️ to see you in front of the cameras again.
cant believe its February, i was just saying, We were just all celebrating Thanksgiving Christmas yesterday - 😅
Time sure flies doesn't it?
Nice scarf❣🧣
Thank you! I got this one in France on my canal trip :)
Judy, I’ve been bingeing seasons 5 & 6 since Christmas. I don’t remember them as well as the first three or four seasons probably because I was in high school and college when these came out. What I’ve been noticing, being a musician myself, is that when the Walton’s family sings together they all sound really beautiful together and I can hear their distinct voices. Was everyone in your group gifted in singing? The Anniversary song on the Mountain was especially beautiful.
I think most of the cast were at least decent singers if not more so.
You suuuure came a loooong way from replacing The Legend on CBS, My Three Sons! 😊
It’s an honor to be a part of such a legacy of long running shows.
This is very interesting ❤
So happy to hear that.
Florida/Waltons
Cali-May (who bought the
Dew-Drop, said she worked in places like the Dew-Drop Inn from Florida and back.
Jim-Bob and (orphaned) friend were planning to go to Florida and fly planes.
Mr. Clarence Johnson, closed his paper in Jefferson County, sold his old printing press to John-Boy and moved to Florida.
Mary-Ellen went to Florida to see her husband Curtis Willard, who she thought died at Pearl Harbor.
Harley said he was born in Florida in the episode where he was hiding his past as a prison escapee in “The Outrage”.
In "The Lie", where Ben helps Nancy Madden sneak off (with John-Boy's car) and whose mother was stopping in Charlottesville on the way to Florida.
In the last episode (The Revel), when Erin Walton comes to NY to suprise John-Boy (who was evicted fro his apartment) his former landlady responds “He could be in Florida for all I know”.
How fascinating! Thanks for sharing this. Not sure what the “Florida” connection is.
🤙🤙
