Fuck ya! Been waiting for this!!! 🤘🇨🇦
Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017).
This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the immortal begins his journey, he is led by a shadow of a falcon flying above(track 2 Shadow Guide). you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song.
Their new JUNO award winning album for best Hard Rock Metal album of 2020 "Abyss", which came out in August 2020, is a continuation of this story, and on track 2(titled Abyss like the album) the immortal has awoken on a spaceship, confused as hell, wondering why he's not in his mountain but in space. I won't go into the rest of the album
    Tonight We Ride next!

@@robberrie677 The story is told over both albums Apex(2017) and Abyss(2020), 10 chapters (songs) per album. They are awesome albums to listen to. Lead singer Brittney Slayes also released a few videos for each album explaining the storyline more in depth. If I'm not mistaken, the band announced that the story is being turned into a graphic novel as well, which will be pretty cool haha. Enjoy your UTA journey 🤘

      Band members in this video:
Brittney Hayes a.k.a. Slayes - Vocals
Scott Buchanan - Drummer(Brittney's partner as well haha)
Grant Truesdell - Black Ibanez shirt Guitarist/unclean vocals (growls in the video)
Andrew Kingsley - Ginger Guitarist(also does clean/unclean vocals on some of their other tracks)
Nikko Whitworth - Bassist (left the band in 2018)

Thank you so much for the complex breakdown of the album that this song is the opening track. It reminded me a lot of Rush's album 2112 in terms of the construct of the album theme. If I remember my music history it was Rush that came out with this type of album by which each song told parts of the story they are telling in a musical format as we see in any classical opera. Metal or "hard rock" as they called it in my day, had never seen concept rock operas and when Rush did theirs it really took off and paved the way for Queen to do theirs and so the rock opera was born and so happy to see that other bands are also utilizing the opportunity not only to write and perform incredible works of musical perfection, but showcase true imagination and bring it together in a truly spectacular way for all of the metal enthusiasts, and rock opera lovers to become totally immersed in the experience.
I am most grateful to the person who requested our favorite young man and one of the best youtube reaction channels I have had the true pleasure to watch and faithfully follow, to showcase this band. Thank you all for your varied musical suggestions, and this channel for musically and lyrically enriching my life. Blessed be.

I've watched dozens of reaction videos to this particular song. (It's a joy to see people react to this for the first time, and it never gets old.) You are the first to take a crack at interpreting the lyrics outside the context of the ongoing storyline. Gave me a whole new appreciation for it, tbh, which is impressive. Your assessment about this being the start of an epic story is 100% on point. This is essentially chapter 1 of 20, and the story told by Apex and their next album (Abyss) is *so* good that there is a graphic novel in the works, which I cannot wait to pick up and read.
On another note: I really appreciate your authenticity and perspective. As I mentioned, I've watched as LOT of reactions to this video, and your treatment was genuinely unique. Respect.

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME!
    AWAKENING (2017)
To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed
To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same
This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace
A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way
Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end
Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name
It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream
I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse
My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
    Come to me, awakening
Follow my voice, come to me
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never
Lighting my way in the night

Women in metal is still catching on. There are still far more male vocalists in metal bands than there are female vocalists. For some reason, women are still considered a novelty, which is sad, but that is changing slowly. So a very highly praised and also heavily recommended band, it is always on the list to react to among the reactors on TH-cam that take the metal genre plunge. Nightwish is the must see. Their best example by far is the Waken Festival 2013 performance. Any song from that really is a great option but most start with Ghost Love Score. One of their longer pieces but a phenomenal example of Symphonic Metal. Also a female fronted band, all of the musicians are masters and when their sound is combined with the otherworldly beautiful vocals of Floor Jansen....well I do hope we get to watch you experience what Nightwish can do to someone who just loves to hear awesome and unique music, you won't regret it. I thought you didn't like metal music?! :-D Awesome reaction! As others have noted, "Tonight we Ride" and "Abyss" are both good showcases of her pipes. I really like "Faster than Light" as well. If you want to hear Canadas unofficial anthem, listen to UtA's version of Northwest Passage (though lyrical analysis won't do you much good without lots of knowledge of Canadian geography and weird history.) Also, Northwest Passage isn't a great showcase of their skills, it's just a favorite of mine. Great feel to that song.
As you've probably heard hundreds of times now, please do Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013). Not because it's a female vocal lead, but because it's a great introduction to what is probably the best metal band in existence. I mean that objectively.
If you're looking for some great male vocals, obviously check out Devin Townsend. Most people react to his "Kingdom" live on EMGtv first.

I believe she is a basically classical vocalist, in her technique and approach to singing. And she's fantastic! Others in the genre you might be interested in are Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen. Floor is the current singer for the symphonic metal band Nightwish, and Tarja is a singer in the same genre, symphonic metal. Tarja is known for her classical-heavy vocal style, almost operatic style.

Greetings! Just found your channel - love your reactions - gotta add my vote, and say you definitely need to add some Devin Townsend to your list, no reaction channel is complete without his performance of Kingdom at EMG TV, also 2nd the motion for Nightwish

Agreed, and gonna add Ningen Isu (most go for Heartless Scat, but there are SOOO many good songs from them after 22 or 23 albums... personally gonna recommend Toshishun off of their most recent album) and Alien Weaponry (Kai Tangata or Blinded) to the suggestions.

I have watched a TON of reaction channels. Some are good or great, some are just lame and you can tell it’s sort of an act.
This one is way different. I can’t really place it, but it’s nothing like any of the others. Stay genuine my dude.

So I am, like you, hearing this for the first time, and I have got to say it reminds me of sonically and thematically of Iron Maiden. If you like this I would highly recommend checking them out. Good starting points "The Trooper" "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" "Run to the Hills" "Wasted Years" I could go on and on really.

So you've made a few comments in this video and others. Release The Archers are what is referred to as power metal. One of the more popular bands in this genre (aside from RTA) is Dragonforce. The genre overall is very much story telling but with extraordinary technical guitar work.

When you said "this sounds like a movie" You just wait till you get to hear the album as a whole as it is meant to be listened to start to finish.
Thank you for grabbing the lyrics and trying to analyze them. Music a lot of times can be interpreted in different ways but in this case it is very literal because of the story they are telling about the Matriarch and the Immortal..good work! You get a sub sir! Welcome to UTA. They haven't left my playlist since I found them in 2 yrs ago

You asked about female fronted bands in metal. There aren't many but when done, it's usually amazing.
Don't know if this has been recommended but Ghost Love Score by Nightwish (live at Wacken 2013) and Spiritbox..but not sure which one for them. Their new album is amazing but it may be better to start with their older stuff. So I'd say Rule of Nines or Circle with me. And then top it off with Holy Roller.

Brittney Hayes, aka Brittney Slayes, is the singer. For Power Metal, she is absolutely awesome. She can do some opera, too. She's kind of a fantasy nerd, so a lot of their lyrics deal with fantasy worlds, if you will. The band's name, after all, is Unleash the Archers. She and Scott, the drummer, formed the band in 2007. Unfortunately, Nikko, the bassist, is no longer in the band. That claw technique of plucking was ridiculous.

Again! Great reaction. You are really good at this. I have been listening to metal since beginning of 1980, but I still likes whats going on today. You have allready had Jinjer, Lorna Shore and Queen, and there is soooo much in between. Like Thrash (90s Megadeth and Slayer, Black Metal (90s Dimmu Borgir, Satyricon Emperor), 2000 (Devin Thownsend, Cradle of Filth, Gojira. and latest with Falling In reverse, Baby Metal, Ghost, Slipknot, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Electric callboy (Yes, they changed their name from Escimo callboy) and many more. And by the way. You wanna see a flute solo in a metal song from an Indian street metal band? I dare you to check out Bloodywood - Arj. Released 4 weeks ago. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you from Norway ;)
