  • It is said that "You become like the people you spend the most time with. Choose wisely."
    If this is the case, then the best choice you can make is to spend your time with an enlightened Guru who is free from all worries!
    Of course, not all are fortunate enough to have the holy company of such a Guru. But at least we all can have the company of their books and videos containing their teachings.
    Instead of wasting time on mundane activities and media entertainments, we can choose to study the life and teachings of great yogis and sages who attained freedom from all kinds of sufferings.
    Their teachings will certainly help us in going beyond the illusions of this worldly existence.
    Good news is that now we can access their teachings even on our mobile device for free! Thanks to our modern technology. In this way, one can even turn his/her mobile addiction into an opportunity to learn from enlightened Masters.
    On the importance of holy company, great Guru Sri Adi Shankaracharya mentioned a verse in his Bhaja Govindam:
    "Satsangatve nissangatvam
    nissangatve nirmohatvam,
    nirmohatve nischalatattvam
    nischalatattve jivanmuktih."
    Meaning: Through the company of the wise Sage, there arises non-attachment; from non-attachment comes freedom from delusion; where there is freedom from delusion, there is abidance in Self-knowledge, which leads to freedom while alive.
    It is in this context that we have created this video series under the title, "Spend Your Time with an Enlightened Guru".
    This is episode 3 of this video series and it contains teachings of enlightened master Annamalai Swami. This excerpt is selected from the book 'Living by the Words of Bhagavan' by David Godman.
    In this video, Annamalai Swami explains about the true nature of pleasure and happiness which most people are completely unaware. Hope you all will get benefited from this.
    About Annamalai Swami:
    Annamalai Swami (1906 - 1995) was an Enlightened Guru, and a direct disciple of the great Sage Sri Ramana Maharshi. Annamalai Swami lived in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, India.

    Wow! I noticed happiness/sadness affects us only till a limit internally on mind-body level. There is ALWAYS blankness/darkness/void where even extreme happiness/sadness doesn't reach. Hence, we always feel short, incomplete at these momentarily lasting emotions. This void/satisfaction is temporarily filled with strong emotions and permanently by God's name where I think mind dips deeper into the Self for longer periods. Since strong emotions makes mind dip into Self, strong bhakti emotion keeps your mind dipped in Self and samadhi happens. The same is achieved by sadhus by yoga and gyan paths.

    I do not agree and I could imagine, that those who think that they have understood this words are the first who break together as soon they have to face reality, suppressions and the burdens of life. Of course depend our emotions from the influence of the outside - I do not feel good when it it is to cold or to hot, when I am hungry or thirsty. and I am in sorrow when rain is penetrating my roof and I have no money to repair, especially when there is a family with five children which are hungry and one of them is sick. I might go on to describe the problems of life which we have to overcome daily. but every seeker of the truth should know them. So emotions and feelings not only come from inside and sorrows are a natural reaction to the adversitys of life! If there is one of you, who is enlightened, refute my words.

    🙏Guruji you have cleared many of my doubts of karma yoga chapter-3 slokas-33 onwards. Which say you don't have to control your desires forcefully because the cause of your desires is your very nature. So, you don't have to control but fulfill them LAWFULLY (Dharma yukta). But fulfilment of desires is accompanied with pain (of laborious activity) And slowly we understand that we are not getting real happiness from fulfilment of our desires and our nature learns DETACHMENT. Then, slowly we start soul searching for the cause of happiness.
    Now, because DETACHMENT is our very nature so you can find real happiness in SELF.
    So, TO fulfill our desires LAWFULLY (Dharma yukta) is the secret to transform OURSELVES from DESIREFULNESS to DETACHMENT.
    THANKYOU GURUJI 🙏.

      @prabu.gurukar1043 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @vishal k.v.
      Abundance is not wrong, but it's for only who is extraordinarily capable of not deviating from path of self realization ,even in that luxury ex: Kings like Ambarisha ,Prahalada,etc because even after enjoying they will not be diverted or fall. Commonly it's good to refrain from Abundance because it will make tO forget GOD & HIS PATH .STRICTLY speaking if Lord loves one very much,he will first make him a pauper,so the devotee depends more on Lord,special thing is giving everything in Abundance and same time victory in self realization is rare and special.spritual BLISS is permanent ever-increasing different from sense pleasure ,which is flickering, temporary, intoxicating, momentery stars and ceases with short duration.

    I have a question. Am son to my parents and I have a lover. I do research, I teach my students. So I identify myself as son,lover, researcher,teacher and I have duties associated with all these identities and I derive pleasure out of satisfying them/doing my duties. Is it not selfish on my part to renounce these identities for attainment of eternal bliss?

    • @wus9472
      @wus9472 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, the lord says do your duties faithfully and with utmost attention, but without attachment to the fruits or the results. This is the true karma yogi,work is for purification of mind and eventually when the mind is quietened in this fashion ,will arise the true self called atma bodh, samadhi. One cannot attain that state by just falsely suppressing desires and duties. It will fail and lead to more frustration. I am working on this path too. Keep treading slowly

      Its a good and a valid question. Most people give tricky answers and never really answer it. You need to look at this objectively and scientifically. I've asked this myself and here is what I discovered. Let's say you're very worried over something or you desperately want something which, no matter how hard you try, you are still not getting it. You are now stuck in a "mental loop" with the same thought repeating itself again and again in your head. That's a form of suffering. You know how that feels. Now let's say you have absolutely no care in the world. You're very satisfied with what you have. That means no thought arises that bothers/worries you about anything. You are now in the SELF. Content and satisfied. The SELF is not something mysterious. Its simply your ordinary experience when you're not pulled hither and thither by your thinking. Just a gentle relaxation into your own being. That's it. Thinking is a double-edged sword. You'll find it exciting and then the same desire arising from thinking turns back on you. There is no problem with thinking if you have the skills and means to satisfy your desires. The problem arises when you want something BEYOND your reach (currently). This will get you stuck in thinking forever. Hence, you need to see through the tricks that thinking plays on you. When no thoughts arise (due to the fact that you have seen through its deception), then, you quietly reside in your SELF. I would call it PEACE rather than happiness (which is temporary and comes from your thinking). Hope this helps.

    • @tedschwartz2142
      @tedschwartz2142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ramkij How Do we Know That an experience Is From self ?? So according to you it is just a trick not real ..?? There Is No such thing as no thoughts arise . Thoughts Are always there .. So it is a deception Which no way real or true? Every time thoughts are there even if one is satisfied so what you say is not correct ... You name it self ...

    • @ramkij
      @ramkij 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tedschwartz2142 Good questions once again. To say it comes from the SELF could also be misleading. In fact, the great sages clearly point out that what we call the SELF is not really describable or quantifiable in any way. What we can clearly observe in our experience is (or at least what I have observed) is this - when we're stuck in thinking (in particular craving for something or arguing with yourself in your mind how things should be different), then we suffer. Examples - I want X and I don't get it for whatever reason. I suffer. Person A says something that offends me and I argue within myself how dare he say that. But he said it already. No way to change it. I suffer saying to myself mentally (thinking) that he shouldn't have said that (arguing with what is). What happens when your mind lets go of you? You fall into a state ( which if you don't want to call the SELF, is quite fine), where you feel natural, easy and comfortable. The discomfort in your mind and body fade away. For want of a better name, you could call it the self or not call it anything. Thoughts could always be there. But you are not stuck in anyone in particular. They just flow through you. This has been my experience. Makes sense?

      Find one who is genuinely in love WITH GOD ,24/7 and performs all actions to satisfy him ,serve him nicely like menial servant ,be humble and put questions to him ,the realized soul will guide you to absolute truth.

    Now the missionaries are not able to preach anything up to this standard. If only religious preachers could stop poisoning people's minds
