Thank you! you saved me so much time. I have been trying to get it in while the engine is in the without using the bolt technique. Using your method with the bolt it meshed first time!
excellent video, thank you very much. I intend to change the Ducellier distributor I have on the Mini for a Lucas 45D and this video is very useful in case the gear comes out with the distributor.
Hi there great video very well explained this will help me a lot with my morris engine. Didn't know you could do this with the engine in many thanks 👌👍👍
What size thread is it as I don't have a spare. Brought an a30 and when it's at top dead centre the roster points back to fire wall like you explained. Engine not running will it matter it points that way
The bolt I used is a manifold bolt , I don't know the thread, regarding the answer to your question if the timing is 180° out then you will need to turn the drive around. It is possible you have it at TDC but not on Firing stroke. It should be fairly easy to find the correct size bolt, good luck David
This used to be common knowledge but half the young lads now don't know what a distributor is. I have a wooden file handle with a bolt in it for this job.
Scott, I have never had a drive that didn't have a thread on it, but you may be able to do it using the dizzy, it may be possible but as I said I can't say definitely because I haven't that problem. Good luck, David
@@davidbosworth.3395 I just took a closer look cleaned out the inside and there is threads but looks like it has been sleeved and a smaller diameter hole in it so managed to find a long enough bolt that threaded in but the thread is metric and not imperial I think the person that removed it trashed the original threads
Scott, If it was me I would buy a used drive spindle off eBay, then if you ever need to remove it again it will make it easier to set it back up again, or re-tap with a new thread and find a better fitting bolt to fit, David
@@davidbosworth.3395 I bought the part of eBay to begin with lol but I have it installed now so hopefully I don't have to remove it if I do I will remember what the bolt was as j marked it to be used as a tool
Brilliant.... great explanation thank you
Thank you very much. I’m in the process of rebuilding my Morris Minor 1000

Hello Jack, glad you found it helpful.
What if your distributor drive shaft doesn't have a thread on the inside can you use the distributor to install the shaft
