Our LG top load washer began to get black flecks of what appears to be mold on clothes after washing. I followed your instructions and was able to take the tub apart, clean it, and put it back together. Got rid of an amazing amount of mold. The washing machine works perfect again. One suggestion. I did not have the picks from Harbor Freight, but was able to remove the bottom of the drum using two standard screwdrivers and crossing them through the round hole in the middle and pulling straight up.....the bottom popped right off. I cannot thank you enough! Very kind of you to share this information.
Thank you Howard! A screw got stuck under the tub and the washer wouldn’t turn. Followed your directions and my husband was able to fix the problem. Our washer is good as new
Thank you Howard! You saved my life 2 years ago when I couldn't figure out how to lift the lid up the first time I had to clean it. And then again today when I had to clean it again and couldn't remember what you showed me last time ;-). Both time, had these brown pasty spots on the inside of the washer drum...and when I took the drum out it was covered in it too. Good cleaning and it was good to go for another two years!
The picks are clever, strong enough to get the job done. Had to take our drum out the second time in a month. A quarter got jambed between the agitator plate and the drum which came out by pliers but several other coins found their way down below. May be harmless but I wasn't sure if the pump had an inlet screen.
How often do you do this? I just started noticing tiny flakes in mine and I plan on deep cleaning it this weekend. Just wanted to plan on how often this needs to be done.
How did you clean the drum especially under the metal thing. How did you drain the water out of it if you pressure cleaned it ? Thank you - your video was good
Great video. Thank you. Question for you- how as there water sloshing around inside the drum when you pulled it out? Mine had water and not sure if that is normal.
Can you or someone explain more clearly what you are doing after taking the wash plate out? I cant see and he doesn't explain what exactly he's removing with the wrenches. Is it just the six bolts? Do you have to remove anything in the center??
I believe the standing water is to keep the drum balanced. The buildup is caused by using too much detergent and probably not cleaning it with cleaner every month
I cannot seem to get the plate off the bottom no matter what. I’ve tried wires, tried those harbor freight, nothing will pop it out. It’s just the cap and 10mm nut, correct?!
Yes, I am having the same problem today. After removing the cap and 10mm bolt I can't get the agitator plate to come loose. I also tried the hook tools from HF and I tried putting a couple screws into a hole on the left and one on the right and then clamping vise grip locking pliers on each screw head and then pulling up. No amount of wiggling and jiggling could get it loose. I wonder if there is corrosion that rusted it plate to the connection underneath.
It's corrosion. Here's the solution: pour some vinegar on it ...wait 30m then use a longer ratchet with both hands while another person holds drum from rotating with ratchet. Problem solved. After you get it out...dip the screw in a vinegar solution (but careful not to let the rubber gasket soak in it) then very carefully scrape the corrosion out between the threads to make the next removal easier. If the bolt has been removed but the plate is seemingly stuck, put on rubber palmed mechanic gloves and using sideways pressure with your fingers to get a grip pull 90 degrees straight up. Wiggling to the side won't work as it's extremely flush. You have to pull 100% straight vertical.
Yes just the cap and 10 mm bolt. Not a snowball's chance in hell would my agitator plate come off my 8 year old LG. Removed the cap and 10 mm bolt yet it wouldn't budge. Tried everything every way. Soaked in PB blaster overnight. Ended up using a slide hammer with a 3 lb weight on the agitator and was hitting it so hard the washer was coming off the ground. No luck at all destroyed the agitator plate yet it still wouldn't budge period. Ended up buying a new machine. Now I'm getting "The Look" from my wife cause I want take the agitator plate off on the new machine put some waterproof grease on the splines which apparently the factory never bothered doing. Just cost me a perfectly good machine which just needed a cleaning and a broken cap replaced.
I had the same issue, wouldn't budge at all. I saw a video where the guy destroyed the plastic piece around the connection and pulled it out that way. So that's what I did, took about 30 minutes. I obviously have to replace the washer plate, but it's cheaper than a new washer.
I have no idea how you're managing to keep the top frame of your machine suspended like that. On my WT7300CW model, that entire top frame wants to fall right off the back of the base when I tilt it up any more than 30 degrees or so. Whatever the specific angle, it's vastly short of what's needed to get the inner tub removed.
5:57 so how did you get the part clean that is still connected to the washer? It seems like you can’t really pressure wash that. What is the best method for getting that clean? Thanks for your video. Hopefully it can solve my issue. It may be a little above my skills but I am going to try it out.

Thank you for this! Super helpful.
Hi ! Could you please share the link ( purchased link) of the machine that you used for screw off ?
Great video. Thank you. Question for you- how as there water sloshing around inside the drum when you pulled it out? Mine had water and not sure if that is normal.
It's normal and nasty. You wash in semi dirty water every time.
Bro this video was a lifesaver...the bottom of my tub was GNARLY and causing the black flecks to float up on laundry
Great vid, thanks!
Thanks very much! Saved my marriage. 😂
thank you.
Mine was stuck. Couldn't get the dam thing out. Tried EVERYTHING
Weirdly enough, my wash plate was stuck until I hit it with vinegar and baking soda
Did you get it off ?
Can you or someone explain more clearly what you are doing after taking the wash plate out? I cant see and he doesn't explain what exactly he's removing with the wrenches. Is it just the six bolts? Do you have to remove anything in the center??
What causes the build up?? And why is there standing water in the washing under drum??

Yes but DO NOT break the plastic. Could be seized with rust. Try vinegar to break it up. Then another go.

Mine was tricky too I had to lean it against the wall and an outlet
Thanks so much!

Mine is stuck...like a MF!
Mold scum and lint in the agitator soak it in tub with vinegar and baking soda
