    To be honest, I really like the blue livery much better, but it is nice that they try to shake the paint job up a bit.

      With 8L closed for reconstruction, you can expect a lot of 4R landings until next year. As always, thanks for watching!

    Ahh you got the Herbert D. Kelleher heritage livery again in the original desert brown scheme (never understand why people call this a "mustard" livery). If memory serves this took you from HOU to OAK once before. I see this particular aircraft's brown colour has a metallic look to it though, which makes it look even better than the original. 👍
    Obvious why WN chose this livery to honour its famous former CEO, pretty cool. I've always thought this is the best Southwest livery and that it should not have been changed (then again that's how I feel about several other liveries 😂).
    Nice camera work as always! The 4R approach to HNL is always a fun one.

      Yes, I've now had the pleasure of flying this aircraft three times now. I hope I'm not using all my special livery karma up at once haha. The first flight was HOU to SNA, then I flew it HNL-LIH which I haven't posted yet, and then this flight. And you're right. This version of the livery has a few other differences on top of the metallic look to it. The original had while outlines around each window, a black glare shield below the cockpit, and had red flap track fairings. So, this is more of a "tribute" than a 1 for 1 recreation. I'm not complaining though. This aircraft is beautiful! This is also my favorite Southwest livery. I wish Southwest still had this. I wish United still had either the battleship gray, or shades of blue livery, and I wish Delta still had the widget livery haha.

    • @aj742
      @aj742 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sla31 Ahh yes, I totally forgot about the white outlines around the windows (I thought it was missing something lol) - that gave it that distinctive look! Also didn't realize the glare shield is missing and the canoes are the standard grey. Indeed though, the plane looks great no doubt.
      Those United liveries are not too bad either, but my favourite one will always be the cheatline livery that appeared in the late '70s-early '80s) with the distintive black title (there were two different versions of this one; the one with the larger title look even better in my opinion) and the "tulip". And yep, Delta's widget livery is also up there as well. 😎 Anyway, I digress haha.

      Yes, in fact they're about the start their 5th year of Hawaii operations. They both fly to Hawaii and they compete with Hawaiian Airlines on the inter-island market.

    Great flight! I just came back from my vacation. On the first flight was a very very turbulent takeoff (we lifted off then came back down on the ground) and a very smooth landing. This was a 9 Max from United. Washington DC was beautiful and hope to come back! My last flight was a 737-800 and was pretty smooth except the landing.

    It sure seems like that max 737 got up and going quickly ! The new LEAP engines must produce incredible power !

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do, but the pilots here also performed an incredible good rolling takeoff. They had full power applied before we were even lined up on the runway. Giving us basically a jump start.

    Always fun landing over 8R, fun to see if any aircraft are at "line up and wait" while you sail over it descending to 4R. Nice new Max-8!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I continued flying around the islands on this day, I did indeed get a couple of other aircraft waiting on 8R for us to pass over. With 8L being closed for reconstruction, all departing traffic is going to 8R and maybe with the exception of the ANA A380 or Korean 748, all arriving traffic is using 4R.

    Is this the same aircraft that brought you to LIH? Having seen this flight already on your 5hr video, I noticed your inbound at Gate 8 but it mysteriously vanishes! Some interior gate area shots and presto! your aircraft reappears! My guess is that your inbound flew back to HNL without you but made a quick turn back to LIH to bring you 'home' so to speak. Were you one of the lucky ones to win one of the model aircraft the gate agent spoke of? As the 20 minute flight made its way to HNL, there a 'water service'--I passed the time 'inflight' by reading USA Today and literally, having a cup of water! One wonders how SWA FA's being based in HNL, afford the sky-high cost of living--I assume the FA's can work a mainland run, a layover, then work flights within the lower 48 system.---looking for another SWA challenge--see if you can fly from HNL to Manchester NH (westernmost to easternmost) in one day! Or vice versa! :)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  ปีที่แล้ว

      So it was the same aircraft on both flights. The magic there was that some of the footage from the airports was filmed on prior trips to Hawaii. Obviously one of the points of the long video was to show each Hawaiian airport, but I only had 30-50 minutes layover at each stop. And boarding of the next flight starts 30 minutes prior to departure, so in reality I had 0-20 minutes to film what I needed. So, pretty much ever airport has shots from previous trips. That's the mystery of the vanishing aircraft solved haha. I did just get off and then get right back on in Lihue. I wasn't one of the lucky winners of the planes haha, but that was actually from this trip. As for the flight attendants. I could be wrong, but I don't believe Southwest has any crew bases in Hawaii yet. I think all of their crews are based on the mainland. And hmmm. That is a good challenge. I'd have to do it the reverse though. Because of the time change there would be no physical way to do it from Honolulu to Manchester.

      It's the only one in the fleet. Very special indeed. "Herb's airplane" used to be on a -700 which was recently retired. SWA used to have 2 desert gold retro liveries, one for Herb and one for Colleen, but when they were retired, Colleen got a Canyon Blue livery MAX8
